Re: The "Extra Credit" section of your post today noting CVS' contributions to political campaigns.

My healthcare insurer has a special arrangement which discounts prescription costs when they are placed with CVS Caremark (CVS' mail-order prescription drug supplier). I suspect we could increase the leverage of our efforts by also contacting any healthcare insurers with this sort of prescription-fulfillment arrangement with CVS (and of course be sure to cc: the appropriate people at CVS). I'm new to this effort so not sure if this makes sense, but thought it would be worth suggesting.

Thank you for your efforts and please keep up this good work!

Actions done! Thanks. Quick note, Senator Schumer's office told me that Sen. Baldwin is whipping GOP votes to try to get to 60, right now it looks like there are 5.

Hi, Jess, I love your newsletter, thank you for doing this. I have a campaign to get the FDA to lift the restrictions on prescribing abortion medication here: https://chng.it/yrnDnmzv. We need more outreach to Sec. Bacerra at HHS who is pulling together a memo for President Biden of actions they will take. Lifting these restrictions will greatly increase the number and type of clinicians incorporating abortion services into their practices. Could you ask your community to reach out to the Secretary? I'm happy to talk about this more. You can see more about me at www.allisonfine.com. Thanks!

Something Heather Cox Richardson said the other week in her Tuesday Politics Chat that we've taken to heart because it's less reactive and makes our point (we think) — instead of saying "expand" the Supreme Court, use the term "rebalance" the Supreme Court. Is this something that feels right to you, Jessica?

Thank you for absolutely everything you do!

Yes. It's a more palatable way of putting it for sure. I sometimes don't remember to use it, but will try to remember in future. Thanks!

So they don't work for people using VPNs...could that be you? Anyway, here's the letter that's pre-populated in the click-to-send. Feel free to just copy and paste it into an email and send it to the two addresses listed in the Extra Credit section. And of course edit it as you wish.

To Ms. Ostafin, Ms. Lynch, and all CVS leadership;

I'm writing to condemn your company's corporate hypocrisy, double-dealing, and grandstanding.

Recently CVS loudly announced support of a women’s right to choose, claiming they would make “out-of-state abortion care services more accessible and affordable," presumably for their employees.

These words sound great. But what kind of support was it when, on June 3, 2022, CVS contributed $10,000 to Governor Mike DeWine’s re-election campaign?

DeWine is an avowed and pitiless adversary of abortion rights. On June 26—-the very day the US Supreme Court delivered its heinous Dobbs decision eradicating a 50-year right to abortion—-he signed an executive order banning abortion after 6 weeks. This is the order that caused a 10-year-old rape victim to have to travel to Indiana to seek an abortion.

DeWine seeks even harsher restrictions on reproductive rights. He’s likely to get behind Ohio Representative Jean Schmidt’s pending bill that would ban almost all abortions, with no exceptions for rape or incest. Schmidt's bill also "creates a new misdemeanor crime of 'promoting' abortion," which Schmidt suggested could be used against companies that pay for their employees to travel out of state for an abortion.

What will you promise your Ohio employees in that event?

And what kind of support did you provide the female employees in your Texas stores when you donated $40,000 to the Texas Republicans behind that state’s draconian abortion ban? According to Popular Information, $20,000 of CVS money went to the Texas House Republican Caucus on February 9, 2022, and $20,000 to the Texas Senate Republican Caucus on March 1, 2022.

I have been a loyal CVS customer for many years but I am tired of corporate double-speak and will be searching out a local pharmacy whose deeds reinforce their promises.

I will encourage all your customers to do the same.

Thanks for nothing.

Thanks for getting back to me, I'm not on a VPN but my son did install a couple blockers so that may be the problem.

Thanks again
