Thanks for the shout-out! And we should all take great HOPE in the results of the French elections! Voters are defying the polls and the pundits and pushing back against right wing extremism. If they can do it, so can we! BELIEVE.

I very much appreciate Jessica sharing you posting above. Thank you for preaching calmness and patience along with action!

Such a good post, right?

Happy to see you here Jay! You and Jess should do an event together, as many of us see you two as the biggest voices of hope and reason in our media land/hell-scape.

I would love to do an event with Jay! Good idea!

Yes! I should have gotten that in there before publishing. It's a miracle!

👏👏 YES!! Good to see you here Jay!

And tossing out the Tories in Britain was good fun! 14 years they’ve been raking in the money and starving health care of ….everything !! to get their work done !! Such a relief to see that mess gone !!

And the French voters —- in ONE WEEK — between round one & two — stopped the far right from taking over their government. A coalition of left & center groups came together to defeat LePen’s nearly-Nazi party .

Yes! I realized right after I published that that had happened. Covid brain. It's so amazing.

Really? Honestly I haven't been following the Europe stuff closely but glad to hear it!

Absolutely amazing.

How delightful !!

You may have covered this in a previous extra extra edition. We need to celebrate Biden 's plan to offer permanent residency to undocumented immigrants married to an American citizen!!!

Yes that was in last week or the week before. (:

Impressive list and well read by hubby. Recovery takes a while but no worries, there are always postcards to write. Postcards To Swing States mails you the postcards, addresses and a choice of short scripts to decoratively write. Add postage and mail on the October date! A fun project while awaiting your can-do lists.

You folks are doing a super job! Thank you for your love of Democracy !!!

I should add this was directed towards other readers, not Jessica! Recovering is a full time proposition!

You wrote of "the darkness before the light" and it reminded me of a wonderful quote from MLK,

"But I know, somehow, that only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars.”

Expand full comment

Such a beautiful reminder, Cathleen. Thank you. I love this quote though it has escaped my memory these days. Seems we need to keep reminding one another of the truth of where we are and what may well be possible. You've done that here, and Jess surely does that with her words and by her tireless actions.

Yes. Beautiful.

A big splash of light in a dark week, thank you!

Wishing you continued healing. Take good care of yourself!

I'm glad you're feeling better, but take it easy. Covid is nasty and you have to rest a lot. It does feel like we are in limbo. I was thinking floating, but limbo is a better descriptor. I'm fighting this by addressing postcards for Grandmothers for a Brighter Future urging Arizonans to vote for Ruben Gallego. It helps to do something positive every time you can.

That's excellent. Yes, we just need to keep on keeping on.

All this, plus today's news about the French elections -- a light is dawning over the dark horizon. Thanks, Jessica!

I agree!

Thank you Jessica for pulling me out of the well again. The media is just horrible in the way it bashes President Biden while giving a free ticket to the other guy, who lies unabashedly and repeatedly, to say and do whatever his 3 year old child 's inner voice tells him to do. I could go on and on, but you know. You are my shining star.

And in Wisconsin, our State Supreme Court ruled last week that ballot drop

boxes are legal and will be reinstated for the November election after a 3 year hiatus. Another blow to the republicans who keep trying to make voting difficult for some citizens.

Expand full comment

Oh yes! Ugh that was on there! I lost a few items and I'm not sure how--very unlike me. The Covid made me do something careless and I'm not sure what. I know that was there...

Expand full comment

I wish we had ballot drop boxes here in NC. But the GOP candidate for my then congressional district was involved in a ballot harvesting scandal in 2018 and the GOP made a law that requires anyone turning in a Mail-in Ballot in person must file and affidavit and be a close relative of the voter. So you can turn them in to the Board of Elections office (during regular business hours) or to an in-person early voting site (during the voting hours).

Thanks Jess. Feel better. Don't answer us... you can rest. Just do the essentials.

Thank you for this, Jess. Hope you're feeling better by the day.

Incrementally, thank you. Covid seems to hit me harder than many, for some reason. Even with the Paxlovid.

It helps to read about the efforts to correct the wrong doings of people who do not want democracy and are working to take rights away unless you are a business or a polluter.

Thank you, Jessica. Please take the time you need to fully recover. We all know people who ended up with rebound Covid. Just saying. Appreciate this post very much.
