Thanks as always!

I just finished up ten more voter registration letters to be mailed tomorrow. I don't have a good desk, so kneel next to our guest bed and write on a clipboard, and it feels a bit like a prayer ritual every time I write a letter or a postcard. They say God helps those who help themselves, and so many of us are doing our little part this year.

I've been post-carding a ton too. And while I'm not sure how effective it actually is, I know that it is effective at keeping me engaged with hope. That is valuable.

Vote Forward (letters) is definitely effective. They run controlled experiments to calculate their effectiveness and improve their techniques. Blue Wave Postcards also calculates metrics. Many postcarding groups use social pressure messages that are shown to be particularly effective (Jess wrote about this recently). I like to think of letters and postcards are one piece of a larger strategy where voters are contacted by multiple means include phone calls and door knocking. Some voters get all types of contact but many are very hard to reach and a handwritten postcard may be the only quasi-direct contact they have with a volunteer, so it's certainly better than nothing. And as you said staying engaged with hope by itself has immense value. If we're positive and engaged we're more likely to spread that enthusiasm to others. Thanks for everything you do.

It’s 11pm Sunday night. Between the first video, so many positive tidbits, and the last video, I’m going to sleep with a smile on my face, and real hope in my heart. Tomorrow, I’m forwarding this entire letter to my friends.
