How about some kind of action/call to protest Trump spending millions and tearing up DC streets with a stupid military parade? Or a march to block it? The rest of us have had our retirement savings tanked, and he wants to spend millions on this??? It’s obscene!

Jess Craven's avatar

There are marches scheduled for that day. And I will definitely do a call. I was waiting to see if he actually decided to go through with it.

Carol's avatar

I am hoping someone will convince him it’s ridiculous, but there don’t seem to be any sane people in the WH for Trump 2.0.πŸ˜–

As the wife of a retired soldier, I am incredibly angry about this parade. He’s gutting the VA and slashing veteran benefits, but has $90+ million to spend a stupid parade? It’s a slap in the face.

Someone suggested we do Obama Appreciation Day that day. Post pictures, et cetera. He would have a temper tantrum and I am totally onboard for that. :)

I understand that viewpoint, but I’d sure like to see thousands of people get out there and BLOCK the damn parade if it happens.

I signed up for No Kings. Thanks for the link.

I agree with Ivdivisible’s strategy, Patrick. Trump thrives on attention of any kind. Take attention away from him and DC. Don’t feed his ego. Flag Day belongs to the people.

I could literally feel my heart swell with happiness as I read this today.

Then, the Trump dump image! πŸ’©πŸ€£πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Jess - Thank you for the amazing work you do and for delivering whatever good news is out there to us, who truly need it!!! You are amazing.

Jess Craven's avatar

I do my best. Thanks! 😊

Shoshanna's avatar

Yes, you do - and it is much appreciated. (P.S. I'm Jason Berlin's mom, and he raves about you and the work you do, daily)!

Darn! I forget to tell you that a couple of weeks ago, Ro Khanna did a town hall in Tom Kean, Jr’s NJ district. There is no daylight between Kean and Trump, and he’s too chicken to hold town halls. The hotel ballroom was packed, with people standing on the outside of the room. More than 1000 people attended.

The decorated dog poop in Pittsburgh is hilarious and made me lol. Thank you, Jess!!!

I was worried it might be a bit too crude for some but figured πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

There is no β€œtoo crude” in *rump world!

Are you aware of any protests planned for trump's birthday parade? It strikes me as an excellent opportunity to make a statement and be hear5d.

Jess Craven's avatar

Yes I believe I mentioned on Thursday (or maybe Friday) that the day of his military parade is the next big protest.

Received this message from Congressman Robert Garcia 5/3: I just left the stage in downtown Palm Springs, where I stood with a powerful crowd of over 1,000 people to demand accountability from Republican Congressman Ken Calvert.

This is the second Republican district I’ve visited in the last month, and people are furious.

I’m going to keep showing up in these districts until Republicans find the courage to stand up to Donald Trump, defend our Constitution, and do their jobs.

Jessica, are you familiar with Wa Congresswoman, Pramila Jayapal’s Resistance Labs? Excellent training for peaceful resistance. She’s presented a 1.0 and 2.0 with the next 1.0 on June 1. There have been several thousand in the zoom’s and room for more! Thank you

I am surprised about Spokane. Context for other readers, Spokane is in a very conservative area. A mountain range (North to South, the Cascades) splits the state in β€œhalf” geographically. There is also a political split along those lines. Many of the schools in the eastern half of the state are banning trans athletes and city councils are dismantling protections for LGBT folks and attacking libraries.

Agree and glad to hear this positive news. I lived in Spokane for 7 years in the 1990s. It was rigidly conservative, heavily Christian and 97% white. Lots of rednecks, racists and white separatists/survivalists in the Eastern Washington/Northern Idaho area (i.e., Randy Weaver and the Ruby Ridge standoff). I saw more than my share of swastika tattoos. Spokane wasn’t all bad, though. I made some fun progressive activist friends there, mostly non-white and native, and marched with them in Pride parades and various peaceful protests. The local tribes hosted a fantastic annual pow-wow in Riverfront Park. Downtown was vibrant and fun. It’s been 25 years since I moved away, and I pray Spokane has become more relaxed, diverse and inclusive now.

Another piece of good news is that Head Start funding was not zeroed out in the draft 2026 budget guidelines the administration released.

Hi there! I’m from Canton, NY and I would clarify: the theater here allows community members to pay to put messages up on their marqueeβ€” birthdays, community events, etc are often on display. This initiative is not the theater itself but a group of community members contributing to put these positive messages up.

Maggie F's avatar

I do think it's a good sign that they put it up though - I imagine it would be easy enough to say "no, that's too political" or something like that.

I really enjoyed seeing the Indivisible Vermont event in support of Canada. It sounds like they may have taken a leaf out of the Visibility Brigade's handbook.

I am also happy to see the news about the Texas School Board races - I wrote postcards for two of the TX candidates (Fort Bend IDS) with the crew from Markers for Democracy. They are now working on NY school board races.

I’m always looking πŸ‘€ for opportunities to write postcards, Cheryl. Thanks for the tip.
