So glad I plowed through to the end. Randy Rainbow gave me the levity I needed! You’re a national treasure yourself, Jessica, for pulling so many threads together. Power to the People.
Thank you so much for sharing so much good news and great accomplishments! Now if we could only see a fraction of these items on news sites - print and online so more people can believe in the progress and not the pessimism…
I loved both pieces, especially the one about Idaho. It's easy to be a Democrat in a safe blue area or even a purple one, but to be in the fight in deep red areas takes special courage and determination. But winning these places is absolutely necessary if we're going to go from every election being existential to a true functioning democracy. Having 40-45% of the country ruled by an anti-democratic authoritarian movement just isn't sustainable long term. But when Idaho and other red state Dems are out engaging voters it shows others who are hiding their beliefs that they are not alone and over time the movement grows. It's slow and unglamorous work but the most important jobs usually are. I know we won't flip states like Idaho any time soon but we must start somewhere and give those on the front lines our support.
I’ve lived in four blue states and all but one in scarlet red counties. It’s difficult when discussing trump’s wall across the rio grande idiotic rhetoric when the person you’re debating adds that he should build a wall around NY and Calif…. What??? Two of the most successful blue states??? I cannot understand these retired judges, business owners and accountants who don’t appreciate Joe Biden and all he has done for our country, our democracy and the middle class…. Thank you Jessica for bringing sanity to this insane time in our country and world!
Also loved both pieces, especially Lucian’s story about his dad during the Korean War. Sharing with a special relative, and others,on this Memorial Day.
Born and raised in deep blue Rhode Island but have lived in Florida since ‘81. Guilty as charged ,I love the Florida lifestyle, barefoot with my “toes in the sand” living in a red MAGA county. We were even “graced” with Kristi Noem’s presence this w-end…sigh.
Doing all I can to engage voters and turn the tide blue.🌊. That includes wearing my Biden/Harris t out and about. Not one negative comment since I began in Feb ! There is hope…but much work to do.
Special thanks to Jess, and all others .who offer support to those on the “front lines”.
Always a pleasure to get a solid dose of good news on a Sunday, thanks Jessica.
While this "California will be receiving $35.2 million in federal funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act to plug 206 high-risk orphaned oil and gas wells. 🪓" is certainly good news, I'm wondering why the oil and gas companies that drilled and profited from the wells aren't paying to plug and seal them instead of those of us who are paying anywhere from outrageous to ridiculous prices for auto fuel and household gas.
Excellent excellent post today. The articles were both so good. Thanks! And I was able to take the time to read them both since I didn’t open any national news sources. Looked at a couple of local newsfeeds and my Substack subscriptions and feel a lot less stressed - two days so far.
Thanks so much for all the good news, Jessica. I freaked myself out reading another article about TFG/GQP's terrible plans (this one in the New Republic explained horrifying ways TFG could abuse his executive powers if re-elected). I literally need to stop doing this. This is not good for my mind. I don't want to scare myself like this.
I've seriously been thinking about it. I've been wanting to stick to at least 3 sources - your newsletter, Simon Rosenberg's, and the Daily Kos Good News Roundup, which publishes good political news and pep talks every day...
In case you missed it, PoliticsGirl hosted the current President of Emily's List this week and the topic was women's reproductive rights. It was well worth a listen.
Did anyone else have problems with the volume on the audio version? I have been listening regularly and normally can hear the volume just fine. Even jacked up to the max, it sounded like Jessica was whispering today. I was able to hear it okay when I put in my headphones, but an alert sound blasted while I was still listening, so I do not think it is my ears!
Your Austin "good news" is not very popular with a lot of us in existing neighborhoods (who also have concerns about affordability), where our existing single story houses are suddenly overshadowed with large multi-story developments and next-door lots overloaded with structures without any certainty that our current services have the capacity for this much higher density. They indiscriminately rezoned the ENTIRE city, imposing these new rules onto existing neighborhoods without any detailed planning.
Thanks for the links to Lucien's and Charlotte's posts! very moving, Lucien's account of his dad and the gay soldier who died covering the retreat of those in his unit who had all harassed him for being gay during his entire time with them; I restacked Charlotte's post with an excerpt of her remarks (sounds much like Simon on Hopium).
Thank you for sharing Lucian Truscot’s essay on pride and patriotism. I subscribe to his Substack but somehow missed that beautiful essay. His father’s story still sits with me even several days after reading it. Such an incredible sacrifice. A very powerful story indeed.
Your scope in reporting positive developments on the political front cannot be overvalued. Thanks, Jessica Craven!
Thank you Mary!!

Jessica is indeed a national treasure.
Thank you so much for posting the dump Alito website. We have sent 7 complaints from our group. Goal is FIFTY!
All thanks go to the amazing subscriber who created it!!
Alden H has added Cannon to the site, with plans to also add Thomas!
Yep! I’ll have it in the newsletter tomorrow!

That’s why I urge people to share this post!

I wholeheartedly agree, Jason!

Both of those reads were the best I have read in some time.
Right??

There is a loophole to the law that enables them to not do so. Broken system.
Broken with some help from the API, I'm sure.
Absolutely.

Good for you!
I was introduced to a great new resource for anyone who is interested in getting involved in grass roots activism. Please check it out and share!

Sounds like you may need to go on a media diet of some kind…?
I've seriously been thinking about it. I've been wanting to stick to at least 3 sources - your newsletter, Simon Rosenberg's, and the Daily Kos Good News Roundup, which publishes good political news and pep talks every day...
And Robert Hubbell, I hope? He's a must.
Those are my fave sources as well.
Thank you for your amazing research! You are a treasure to our country! We appreciate you!!
Thank you!

Oh no! So sorry!
Same for us, on 2 Android phones. So we plugged in the kitchen table speakers and proceeded.
Those first two were GREAT!
Weird, though--I just tried playing it on my phone and it sounded fine! How odd.
Oh no I’m so sorry! I had to speak a bit softly this AM as my kid was still asleep but it shouldn’t have made THAT big of a difference. I apologize!

Oh dear.

I agree. It was a stunner. So glad you enjoyed as much as I did.
