Hi, all. I’m sending this a little earlier than normal so you can have some time to soak it in while still enjoying your Sunday. I know it was another hard week—amidst a long string of them—but many, many things did go well also. So please make sure to not only enjoy this news yourself, but send it along to folks who insist “nothing is going our way.” Quite a bit is—it’s just not as effective at getting our attention.
Oh my GOSH! After that spray tanned orange mop gave his campaign speech at WACO yesterday this is delightful to read. I can't thank you enough for bringing the sunlight into the dark and keeping me motivated to continue working on being responsible for real change. There is an election coming up in my town and I got several progressives to run for elected positions and gain ground. Thank you for this!
I enjoyed reading the good news! I didn't realize how much I needed it until I was part way through and developed tears in my eyes. I've been unbelievably stressed about all the bad news, more so than I realized, and reading this filled my heart with joy. Thanks so much; I needed that. I appreciate all that you do.
Jessica, just here to add my thanks to all the others, for all the good news and for gifting us the article from NYT on gender. Will be sharing that widely!! All the more heartening given tfg’s continued antics in Waco and the devastation in Mississippi this weekend.
My late husband was a middle school shop teacher. He saw, first hand, the effects of hunger on learning. He is dancing in the streets of heaven today knowing ALL of “his” kids will be eating breakfast and lunch each school day here in Minnesota. Glen always kept “snacks” in the classroom but wasn’t supposed to give any to students except on special occasions like birthdays. Rules weren’t his thing, fortunately, and part of our food budget went to replenishing his snack cupboard. Now, teachers can focus on education. Add the protections for abortion providers and outstate abortion seekers, along with many other great policies passed into law this session and I suddenly feel like I live in heaven! All the more reason to stay active so thanks for helping all of us focus our time and efforts each day.
(Since you like dogs too, Gov. Walz has a big pit bull mix named Scout. And just like his person, Scoutie is friendly, particularly with kids and other dogs. Always a joy for my dog and me to run into the Governor and Scout at the dog park!)
Minnehaha Park is a well known Minneapolis Park along Minnehaha Creek. Near where the creek runs into the Mississippi River, there is about a mile of the river that is flood plain - can’t be developed or built on. It is a very popular off leash dog park. I have a 60 lb Mountain Cur/German Shepard/ American Staffordshire Terrior mix. Kiri could run all day and not tire out. That park is great. Lots of people, dogs and water to play in. Governor’s mansion isn’t far away so Governor Walz, Scout and the guv’s security detail come for a run. Its fun to chat with him and also fun to see him relax and just enjoy. Excellent governor but the attacks by Repubs are merciless, even with our Trifecta D government. (I’ve worked for several enviro groups including the lead group that just helped pass our 100% renewable energy standard here. I’m a familiar face so we chat very occasionally)
Unfortunately the Medicaid news in NC is not as good as we wish. The bill does not go into effect until the budget is passed. We fully expect the Republicans to load the budget bill with awful things like reduced restrictions on guns and increased restrictions on abortion. It will force Governor Cooper, who has fought for Medicaid expansion for both terms into a dismal choice
Thank you Jessica. These positive notes of events that took place make a huge difference not to get into worries and to keep going, knowing there is good in the world. You rock, my dear. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
After reading your good newsie letter this morning nothing could have stopped me from subscribing. What a treat! And I loved that they were all shorts with no unnecessary details.
Brava, Jessica Craven, for aggregating all this good news. Individual victories sometimes are hard to retain. This was WONDERFUL!!!
So glad you liked! Please share! Folks really need a boost this week.
I love this so much! Thank you!
Always!

Incredible! Thank you for your hard work!
Thank you, thank you! This always lifts my heart after a tough week. I'm fist pumping right now.
Yay!
Thanks for highlighting the NYT article on Judaism and gender.
As I’ve learned from a fellow Heather Herder, Judaism also has enlightened views on women’s rights and reproductive choice.
So much to learn from ancient Judaism…
Indeed.
I haven't been reading your "good news" every week, but now I think I must read...and share!!! Thank you Jessica!!
Oh you must! What we focus on grows!
It’s nice to see kids hugging a politician for the right reasons.
Agree. So sweet.
Thank you, Jessica!! Now...BREATHE!
Oh I am!

Oh I’m so happy to hear this. I know, we are all so burdened right now. “Extra! Extra!” may be my most important newsletter of the week!
Me too. Exactly.

How wonderful! Also I meant to say your husband sounds like an amazing human!

Oh no really? I hadn’t heard that. Terrible!
What a wonderful lift for the spirits. Thank you so much.
You are so welcome. ❤️
