Hi, all, and happy Sunday! A little late, (blame the Oscars), but here’s your long (as usual) list of things that went RIGHT this week. We already know what’s wrong, but let’s take a few minutes to turn our gaze towards the victories—because remember: what we focus on grows!
Thanks for the gift link to the article in The Atlantic about the SOTU speech.
NPR had a bit about Trump's reaction to the SOTU address as an "angry, dark, hate-filled rant" and all I could think of was PROJECTION! And then, of course, trump mocked Biden's stutter. I have such disgust for TFG and look forward to the day when I don't have to hear his voice.
Great "juice" for our week, Jess! Thank you so much for doing this heavy lifting for all of us. It is great to see the dollars and the students starting to turn President Biden's way. As the NPR reporter said (paraphrasing): A vote is a vote; it doesn't need to be "enthusiastic" for Biden. Voting AGAINST TRUMP works for me, for democracy and against the remaining Republican insurrectionists in the House and Senate. Vote BLUE down ballot in November.
Lots to be happy about here, very uplifting. I especially appreciated the nomination of Marty Walsh to the Postal Service board (as that has been a recurring item of CWCW) and the guidance from Dept of Ed on registering HS seniors, ehich is news I can use in both NY and CT.
I'm particularly impressed amidst all the other good news about the satellite "that will track climate-heating methane emissions from oil and gas companies around the world launched this week" from California. Woo Hoo! Hopefully info they send back will make The Guardian so anyone who cares can read it. (I've given up on WaPo and NYT.)
Didn’t watch the Oscars tonight. Took a break from tv. So happy with all that you posted! Following Stop the Coup now. Allred will win against that slouch, Ted Cruz and Texas will be so much happier. Now, if they could just throw Abbott over a cliff…
Thanks for the link about Moms for Liberty/60 minutes. My local paper had no coverage…and Descovich and Justice are locals !
More good news as the Florida Senate just refused to confirm Descovich as DeSantis’ choice to sit on the Commission on Ethics due to her obvious conflict of interest lobbying for MFL.
In the spirit of things that went right, the Times seems to be printing more of the REAL news and not fantastical understatements of the threats Trump represents.
The most consequential article about Biden they've published since he became President was this weekend describing how he handled Putin's threat to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
Please read the story. What Americans would not want Biden's hand on the nuclear button?
When look at Biden I see a man who fails to understand what has happened to the party he leads, our party. He fails to understand that affirmative action relies upon overt racism and not the judgement of an individual's character as MLK Jr wished for at the Lincoln Memorial sixty years ago.
He fails to understand that no matter how much an individual may desire it they can't change their biological sex and that you can't force the average American to believe such unscientific nonsense and even less will that average American allow children to be sterilized to achieve the impossible. He fails to understand that allowing the unfettered import of millions of illegal immigrants who are willing to work for next to nothing just to be here undercuts the wages of our working class and insures that they will vote for the equally ignorant Trump. It further is destroying many of our cities as they struggle to house the newcomers before housing our own citizens. We need leadership in our party who are rooted in reality on every issue as the Democrats are on climate change and on a woman's right to choose.
Being right just sometimes and wrong so many other times as both parties are today
just isn't going to cut it anymore if we are to survive as a nation.
This is all encouraging news and it looks like the SOTU speech had a big positive impact. Momentum against Trump is building.
This Oscar production was the best!! Almost as good as this weeks WINS. Thanks so much for being such a positive force for change 👏🏼

Thank you for this letter - it truly brings me hope everyday. We are all in this together.

Huge thanks for this weekly vitamin shot, Jessica -- and thank you for the gift link to the Atlantic article. Mighty encouraging!

And here's another great rebuttal to Katie Britt: https://www.tiktok.com/@bhambluedot/video/7344170062066093354
