Thank you!! So good to see these. You should know that most of us don't track the timeliness of these celebratory posts, and probably 99-100% of us admire you greatly for all you do on behalf of democracy! Please don't apologize every time you feel like you're behind with us, because you DESERVE to rest and to enjoy time with your family! We are so grateful for you.
Just in case some people don't know, the phrase "Fu*k Around, Find Out" which is used to such powerful effect in the abortion access video at the end of Jessica's good news post, is using the far-right's language against it. That is a phrase used as a macho challenge by the Proud Boys, and these pro-choice activists with FindOutPAC.com who are working to protect a woman's right to make the decision whether their life is in sufficient danger to have a procedure or not, have appropriated it and applied it to voting power. Awesome.
I read a book about the Proud Boys. What an eye-opener. As a physician, I have to say, there is a lot of serious psychological distress in that population of men. A lot of abuse (emotional, substance, physical), unhappiness, poor coping skills, which leads to fear and anger. As a community, they bond over it, like in all gangs, and express control over their perceived environment in physical terms, associated with the language and phrasing of power (like Fu*k Around, Find out, which sounds exactly like what you'd expect to hear in a confrontation between two angry men, prior to a fistfight). The frightening part is the connection to a demagogue like Trump, who relies upon cult-like methods to draw people into his orbit, and whose own pathology has a major power-cruelty-tough image that he is constantly trying his best to portray - a guy whose physical prowess is limited to golf (where he cheats).
Thank you. I am a new subscriber and, as I read through your list, I realized how few of these items have been front and center in the news. This was just what I needed, and I have forwarded it to friends. Happy Monday. LET'S GO!
Thanks for the Mike Lux link. I think he's onto something. One point he made that resonates with me is that people vote for candidates who support their values and their agenda. I think we need to focus on the values side. As I've said before, "Character first, Integrity second, and Policy third; Policy can change."
Whoa from me also. That was one powerful piece. Share that to everyone I know also, as well as Rick Wilson. You pull in so much amazing stuff Jessica. Multi tasker squared, maybe?
Whoa. Just had to share that video at the end, fantastic. And thank you so much for Extra! Extra! I'm so grateful for this dose of good news every week ♥️
I agree that the 2024 election will not be determined by Biden's age. Hur teed that issue up soley to light up the MSM which could obsess about it into the foreseable future. In the real world, the election will be determined, first, by Biden and Trump's very different vision of America's future. And second by which candidate can get out its base (get out the vote) generally and in the key swing states specifically. Considering we had a 7 million vote lead after 2020, Dems need to keep building out our vote total across all demographics. We have the potential of adding 10 million votes to Biden's total in 2024. Reading hundreds of comments about the Age issue from Biden voters, it appears, some would prefer a younger Democratic candidate but none would vote for Trump because of the president's age. Consistently, Biden voters express appreciation for Biden's 1st term record and want more of the same. And Biden voters trust in his judgement and his political skills to keep delivering.
Given the grave dangers a majority of Americans know about a potential Trump second term, I'm hoping we see results like the 1964 Johnson-Goldwater election; Johnson, running on his progressive racial and social policy agenda beat Goldwater with a 61%-38% popular vote and an overwhelming majority in the electoral college.
Ahhh..I keep looking for God's ears..maybe this election cycle. We can never forget, we amazingly got a Black president elected in our lifetime..we can surely get a great legislative and political president reelected..
Well Jessica, I forwarded Jeff Tiedrich's Sub from this morning to the NYT. Fat finger hit more t than r in editorial of the address and it got kicked back. Just sent it again. Did you read Jeff Tiedrich this morning? He was righteously riled up. I had to forward that one to NYT aslo. I was a bit pissed myself, but held back a bit.
Speaking of canvasing for Schiff, why can we not implore Katie Porter, as fantastic as she is, to withdraw so we do not lose her extremely valuable possition in Congress. We need her there so much. She is irreplaceable.
Anyhow, I'm copying and pasteing my note to NYT to you again because you inspire me to keep it up:
You missed someting
Dear Sirs and Madams,
Who's side are you on? Democracy or tyranny? You have done everything you could to demean Joe Biden over the past three years. You acknowledged receiving the Robert Hubble Substack I forwarded to you on Feb. 5, but have not responded. I know you are busy, but this one by Jeff Tiedrich is speaking to YOU. Does the First Amendment mean anything to you anymore? Are you comfortable with the threat to the free press? You have to stop carrying water for Putin and advocate for our Constitution and the American people. The threat is real. It is your responsibility to keep our nation informed of this danger. The absolute political smear of the Hur report? Do you accept without question all the speculative lies within it and those of the Trump cohorts? The story that you missed was that our president was on the phone to many world leaders, as well as leaders of the US military, constantly since the Hamas attack on October 7, within the previous twenty-four hours and he made time to meet with special counsel Hur while juggling world affairs so fast that anyone else's head would spin, but not our president. You missed that story and published hit pieces on your front page instead.
Thank you for the uplifting list of good news from last week; we all needed it and it was a good start to the week. Please never apologizeif you feel as though you're late; you are miles ahead of the rest of us.

Fair point. Thank you, Janice.

Yes! And age last!
Yes, and with age comes wisdom...and baggage!

It’s too late for Katie Porter to run for her Congressional seat. If she loses the Senate race we lose her in office, sadly. For now, anyway.
And forwarding it all morning is exactly what I have been doing. Happy to be on "the team."
Woo-h00!
