Hi, all, and happy Sunday! Hereβs your weekly list of excellent happenings from the week before! Also, zoo advent calendars ππΌ and Patti LaBelle ππΌ, just because. Remember, almost none of the below would have been possible without the patient, persistent, diligent work of good-hearted folks just like yourselves. THIS is why we never give up!
Re the Constitution matter ... how about every Senator and House member affirms their Oath, maybe in unison on the Floor. It would be interesting to see who refuses to do that. It reads: βIβ¦do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.β
I was veryextremely disappointed to hear reports that despite enormous pressure from Democrats, Senator Schumer is considering including Manchinβs dirty deal in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The policies outlined in this backroom deal would have devastating impacts on our environment by advancing harmful projects like the Mountain Valley Pipeline, promoting oil and gas projects, and fast tracking permits for all fossil fuel projects by reducing environmental review and community input. These policies will result in a structural loss of power, especially for those on the frontline of the fossil fuel fight.
New York groups, frontline communities, and environmental justice organizations have all urged you to have the dirty deal as a standalone vote and not attach it to any must-pass legislative vehicles like the NDAA. I condemn the decision to include this dangerous bill in the NDAA, and once again I ask Senator Schumer to rethink this harmful decision.
I just got this message ... thought you should see it:

Hello leaders,
The Senate is up to shenanigans. Ann Clancy, our Indivisible climate policy manager, has flagged that the Manchin dirty side deal could be added to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). NDAA is a must pass bill that most Republicans vote for. That is bad because it means progressives have very little leverage to change the bill once it is introduced. We expect bill text around 3pm today.
Please call Sen. Schumer's DC office at 202-224-6542 and share that you're against the Manchin dirty deal being added to the NDAA and you want Sen. Schumer to make it a stand alone bill.
Please email Schumer's chief of staff and legislative director as well. Here is a template email from Ann Clancy. You can also send an email through Schumer's website.
Please text me with any questions, and if you can, forward this message to your members asap.
Dang. I really needed this. π Have a great week! π

Jess, I don't think I saw any nonwhites in that audience. Maybe some things have changed.
Great list of positives! Love it.

Catching up on reading, thank you for CWCW!
Also, I can't believe that it's been 10 years tomorrow? since Sandy Hook.
And, no amount of money can ever compensate the families for the cruelty of Alex Jones. Just unbelievably inhumane.
"Alex Jones filed for personal bankruptcy in Texas, citing debts of $1.5 billion he has been ordered to pay Sandy Hook families for harassing them."
sorry I didn't see your request sooner!
