WOW, the guy who spoke at the Virginia school board meeting (impeded video in Sundays letter) was AWESOME. The good guys verses bad guys is really quite simple. He said it perfectly. Kudos to him whoever he is. I hope there are many more like him out there.

Thank you for these wonderful and inspiring Sunday lists. The video clip at the end was icing on the cake. That young man said it so beautifully and I’ve still got tears in my eyes. Let’s just keep on being the good guys.

I am a straight white older male (who spent much of his life in the political and legal worlds of civil rights and who helped pass a state's non-discrimination law covering people who are LGBT. You write of a non-binary candidate in PA who won a local seat-congrats. A measure of societal change is when people no longer feel it is necessary to use 'identity'. Until that time, we should also start today talking about the attributes of that candidate, rather than their identity.

Who is that man from Virginia who gave the school board speech saying β€œthere is no right way to do the wrong thing?” If he isn’t already in public office, he needs to run for something. I’m not in Virginia, but I’d vote for him!

Thank you so much for sharing all this wonderful news with us, Jessica. I really appreciate it. It makes me so happy to know that our efforts to save democracy are paying off, and this should put all of us in excellent shape to build on that success in 2024 and to re-elect Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and Democrats across the nation.

With all that said, my mental health has taken a beating from all the frightening articles and commentary about what would happen if, God forbid, T****p wins again, as well as all the polls showing TFG leading Biden. My threshold for this anxiety has long been exceeded, and I feel like if I don't keep up with all this news then I'm not being a responsible citizen. What should I do? How can I ease my worries about the next election and not feel so fearful all the time?

Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks!

Stay in the day, Chris. I can't encourage it enough. When we stay in the day we can handle anything that comes. When we project into the future it gets very overwhelming and scary very quickly. Stay. In. The. Day. And take lots of breaks.

Thank you so much for this, Jessica. That's all I can do and that's great advice. I've seen so many articles and social media posts that make my anxiety go up, and any amount of hopefulness about our current situation is so needed.

A lot of these are junk polls intended to drive a negative narrative. Right-wing operatives put these out knowing the media won't be critical and most people won't look behind the numbers. It's a ploy, to flood the zone with bad information and feed false narratives.

We're a week out from an election in which real voters made real decisions and gave these extremists a drubbing across the US. The same people are going to be running on the same issues in a year - except worse. Now they've called human beings 'vermin' and endorsed one more extremely unpopular idea, mass deportation.

No wonder they're filling the media space with as much junk as they can. The truth is, people aren't buying what these extremists are selling, once they get a good look at it. All they have is lies and misinformation, to cover vastly unpopular candidates and policies. this flood-the-zone strategy is meant to confuse, mislead and bewilder people.

We go on offense, share good news, discredit false sources, and push back against the lies.

People who believe in truth and decency SHOULD be distressed in presence of lies and cruelty - The anxiety speaks to a rising sense of injustice and harm, an unsettling feeling of the world being out of joint. It is - but real voters just helped put it right last week, the collective effort of thousands of people who aren't giving up and never will. There are more of us than there are of them and they know it. They don't want us to know it... So they try to divide us, distract us and fill us fear and cynicism. We won't let that defeat us. We love this country too much to see it die at their unworthy hands.
