Two additional things that can’t wait til tomorrow, y’all.
🚨 First, after I published this morning I got information on another good way to pressure Chuck Schumer. So please send his Chief of Staff and Legislative Director an email and tell them our concerns about Manchin’s dirty deal. I made a quick-send email —click here to personalize and send.
If that doesn’t work (it won’t for folks with VPNs, for example), just manually send an email to meghan_taira@schumer.senate.gov and mike_lynch@schumer.senate.gov and say (please personalize!):
Dear Mr. Lynch and Ms. Taira,
I'm extremely disappointed to hear reports that despite enormous pressure from Democrats, Senator Schumer is considering including Manchin’s dirty deal in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
The policies outlined in this backroom deal would have devastating impacts on our environment by advancing harmful projects like the Mountain Valley Pipeline, promoting oil and gas projects, and fast tracking permits for all fossil fuel projects by reducing environmental review and community input.
These policies will result in a structural loss of power, especially for those on the frontline of the fossil fuel fight. Progressive groups, frontline communities, and environmental justice organizations have all urged you to keep the dirty deal as a standalone vote and not attach it to any must-pass legislative vehicles like the NDAA. And yet here we are!
I condemn the decision to include this dangerous bill in the NDAA, and I urge Senator Schumer to rethink this harmful decision. We are in a climate emergency!
Those of us who just helped Democrats win a historic midterm victory will be watching carefully. Do not take us for granted, please.
Respectfully,
[Name, address]
🚨 Second, there’s an event tomorrow morning I know y’all are going to want to attend. It’s hosted by Simon Rosenberg, the strategist who got the midterms right when virtually no one else did.
With Democrats Things Get Better
Please join us for NDN's signature presentation, "With Democrats Things Get Better." It's a 25 minute long data-filled look at the performance of the two American political parties since the end of the Cold War.
What we learn is that Democrats have repeatedly made things better when in power; the GOP not so much.
Tuesday Dec 6, 2022 01:00 PM ET. Register here.
OK, all. Thanks, and talk tomorrow.
Jess
Thank you for this info!! What is the process going to look like as Manchin tries to attach this deal to the NDAA, and what can other Senators do to stop it? I am very confused by some of the inner workings of this deal. Is it likely to happen? Also, will Mr. Rosenberg's presentation be recorded?
Done and Done. By the way, the link worked famously. My email opened on a new message in my account with your script which I was able to easily edit to personalize and send.
