Your column reminds me of Mariaβs joyful song in the Sound of Music about confidence, ending with βI have confidence in me!β We must remain hopeful, strong and confident.
So H/T means hat tip. If I've taken verbiage for a script from somewhere, or if an org has recommended the call specifically, I H/T them so it's clear (although apparently not that clear! π) that I had help with writing it.
Ah, got it. I thought it might be some sort of abbreviation for Resistbot. By the way, thanks for turning us on to that as well. I love being able to send a text at any hour and not have to wait on the line for a human being. I wonder if the powerful people look at texts versus phone calls any differently. Anyway, you rock!
Any time! That's what the comments section is for! You can also hit reply to the email and I'll get that, too. But I'm glad you posted it publicly so others can see it.
Thomas Friedman's oped in the NYT, "Putin's New Cold War: Freeze Europe" raises an important point: we need to supply as much energy to Europe as is humanly possible to supplant what they will lose due to Putin's stoppage of Russian gas and oil. That will hurt Putin. If slowing down our conversion from fossil fuels to other fuels hurts Putin, then I'm for slowing down our conversion.
Jessica, Like other commenters have said, you're amazing! You're better than MoveOn! I've been politically active for 23 years and only Thom Hartmann compares to you! Will definitely upgrade to paid subscription after the election (to save donation money for now).
Thank you for such talent and hard work. The researching alone is daunting and invaluable.
Thom Hartmann, #1 progressive talk show host, was on Air America when Al Franken was on 20 years ago.
Amazing man, has written a lot of books, owned his own businesses, worked with disabled children, been on rescue missions overseas, been all over the world, is my age in early 70's. Now lives in Portland, Oregon and runs his show from there.
Latest book in Thom's "hidden history" series: "The Hidden History of Neoliberalism: How Reagan Gutted America and How To Restore Its Greatness"
P.S. I wonder if you know Randi Rhodes and Stephanie Miller, progressive women talk show hosts from Air America days? Tough women! They do their homework, Randi in particular.
I see. I don't watch or listen to talkshows, so that would explain why I haven't heard of any of the above, but they sound great! Me, I'm a reader, for better or for worse. I don't even have cable. (:
I'm a reader also, but I run (even after hip replacement, defying surgeon's advice), walk, and change cat litter (5 cats). Can listen to Thom when doing the above. His podcasts are highly educational and his listeners are smart and progressive. When Thom is out of town or sick, Jefferson Smith, an attorney and activist in Portland close to your age, substitutes for Thom on the show.
Thom claims he is ADHD and wow, what a rich and storied and productive life--he never finished college! He knows U.S. history backwards and forwards, has worked with disabled children, owned a travel business, an advertising business has been on overseas rescue missions and written multiple books on multiple subjects. Amazing individual. Same with his wife, Louise.
Jessica -- I hope you have a chance to quickly answer this query, which maybe will help others too. I've been doing the work (postcards and letters mostly, some calls) with a couple excellent organizations. In this final run to November 8, I'm trying to figure out where my last round of donations should go. It's hard! So many, many candidates that need our help. I've been supporting (Senate) Barnes, Warnock, Beasley (in association with Senate Circle), but then have read that the big Senate races have plenty of money (when I look at Ballotopedia, seems true of Warnock and maybe Beasley but not Barnes). So instead I've turned to the House but now everywhere I look there are long lists of really important House races. I've been impressed with Movement Voter PAC -- for their analysis and methods, support of on the ground organizations etc. Its seems like making my donation in one place may be more effective than trying to figure it out for many individual campaigns. What do you think -- and what do you think of Movement Voter PAC? Have any other recommendations? Thank you!
Hi, Alexandra! As soon as I started reading your question I was thinking "I'll be answering this with 'give to the Movement Voter PAC'" so there you go! YES. I always, always recommend MVP as my top choice. If you have to give only one place I'd give there. Hope that helps!
I took the liberty of copy-pasting your DemCast "help needed" to LFAA, crediting you fully. Hopefully some people will respond.
Oh, everyone, do enjoy our new anthem for 2022, courtesy of Sheryl Lee Ralph!

Indeed we must!
Jessica, I think you're amazing. Quick question. What does [H/T/ 350 Bay Area] mean, at the end of the Call your Senator paragraph.

They come in as emails and yes they do!
Also THANK YOU!
SO appreciate your quick response and the tremendous work you do. Many many thanks!

Well, I may have to make an exception and check him out! Thanks!
