So many great events! I wish I could go to all of them. Tonight Markers For Democracy, Downtown Nasty Women Social Group and Friends are co-hosting an event called The Grand Connection for grandparents to talk to grandkids about the importance of voting (but everyone is invited including parents, kids, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends). The Zoom will feature Sam Schwartz, the college student and activists who organized Tour to Save Democracy. Here is the sign-up. https://www.mobilize.us/markersfordemocracy/event/664129/ (And I'm also planning to check out the Swifties for Kamala call at 7 pm. Senator Warren and Carole King are among the special guests. https://x.com/Swifties4Kamala/status/1828477659854315996)

A few years ago, I realized that I needed 'legs' to be politically active. My own were worn down by the just sheer number of events that have occurred in my lifetime 1936-. One of those legs has been Jessica Craven. What a prize!

If you want to learn more about how increasing turnout in Mecklenburg can flip North Carolina blue check out this podcast that explains it all: https://newfacesofdemocracy.org/drew-kromer-of-meck-dems-can-one-county-flip-north-carolina-blue/

Oh perfect! Yes, Drew makes such a compelling case!

Drew is amazing and I love how he explains how North Carolina got into this situation after decades of voting blue more often than not. It’s really informative & the lesson for all of us is to fight like hell now bc it will be 10x harder to fix if the GOP wins.

Jessica, I have an important warning - I just opened the link in your Get Smart! 📚

🛜 House Accountability War Room launched four new ‘microsites’ in an ongoing series, calling out House Republicans whose records match the extreme Project 2025 agenda. The first four were released — they focus on the extreme positions of: Speaker Mike Johnson.

I filled out the form and wrote a comment re NOAA and Climate Change pertaining to Project 2025. The website wouldn't work - it said "DON'T PANIC" - that they were working on it.

Then I received six emails with a SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER ALERT from EXPERIAN.

They read:

Experian IdentityWorks detected a match to your Social Security Number.

Alert

Found: Social Security Number

Potentially Breached Site: nationalpublicdata.com

Personal information exposed on the dark web does not necessarily mean your info has been used fraudulently. We recommend you take the following proactive steps to prevent any potential risk:

Place a fraud alert on your credit file as soon as possible at Experian.com/fraud or by calling 1-888-397-3742.

Place a freeze on your credit file at all three credit bureaus—Experian®, TransUnion® & Equifax®.

Review your credit report from all three bureaus and report any activity you don’t recognize. Request a copy of your latest credit reports by visiting AnnualCreditReport.com.

Review resources available at the Social Security Administration online by visiting SSA.Gov/Fraud.

Monitor your credit card and bank accounts for suspicious transactions and notify the financial institution if you notice anything suspicious.

Note: Large data breaches often lead to multiple alerts of exposed personal information, as information is exposed in a variety of combinations.

Log in to view more details about the alert and additional recommended actions you can take."

HOWEVER, Jessica, this may be a total coincidence in timing, connected to the massive social security data breach I just NOW see in the news. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/social-security-number-leak-npd-breach-what-to-know/

I'll place a Fraud Alert with Experian through their website (that automatically goes on all three). My credit reports are already all frozen.

Just to let you know, I love reading your Substack - and often take action! you suggest. I also read many other Substacks including Heather Cox Richardson, Jay Kao, and Robert Hubbell. Now this. Yikes.

Hmmm I have clicked on all those webistes and not had that problem. And they are from a big org--the House Accountability War Room--shouldn't have problems. I'm so sorry that happened!

I just got a notice from Experian yesterday about my SSN being exposed in the data breach so I think it’s coincidental.

Diane, I did not go on any of the websites you mentioned but I received the same alert as you did from Experian.

After Old Farts lunch at my shed Thursday, peter Harkins became ill and Sunday he tested pos for Covid. have not heard from him as of Tues evening, but OF lunch for Thurs at his porch is moved to Zoom and peter was planning for 2 county commissioners, David Delaney and Franklin Gomez to join us. Do be vaccinated. The new Moderna and Phizer vaccines are protective against the active strain and should be a Walgreen's next week. I had my flu shot a week ago. You can take them together, but I like having them 2-4 weeks apart so IF i have any reaction/side effect I am more likely to be able to tell which one did it. no reactions so far, flu shots annually for as long as I can remember, and Covid every one available, ?5 or 6 so far. Love, Doc Peter goes to everything, a little younger than this hermit.

I still love Joe Biden. The media, which needs to sell controversy, seems to continue pooh-poohing his accomplishments. But historians, who have the luxury of objective hindsight, will put Biden's amazing accomplishments in proper perspective; one of America's greatest presidents and a gift to all of us.

I'm quickly learning to love Kamala Harris. What a miraculous transition. And I believe she will win big-time on Nov 5.

We can see victory in the voter numbers starting at the 81 million who voted for Joe, in her contributions, in her engaging and hopeful messaging, in women's health choices, in her taking back to the Democratic Party the fundamental words of "freedom", "patriotism", "loyalty","joy", her outreach to all Americans, her dismissal of Trump as unserious thereby incapable of trolling Democrats, and so forth. Who to vote for is such a simple choice; Goodness and Joy or Trump and MAGA's Awfulness.

We can see victory in the tidal wave of new volunteers joining the millions of grassroots activists who have been working since 2016 to bring back a Democratic majority in Congress and the White House. This majority will arrive and pass historic legislation for Americans.

For all of us who grew up in the midst of Vietnam protests and the Civil Rights movements, we know the power of the most potent force in our democracy; The Consent of the Governed. Given time and diligence, it will overwhelm the the enemy we face; The Tyranny of the Minority.

Trump's final act will not be overthrowing our Democracy but finally electing a woman POTUS in America.✌️✌️

Glad you had a happy visit with Clayton and Jeff et al in Charlotte. Wish I could risk a group indoors and I would have joined you. BTW, often I have an email that someone liked a comment, but I have not learned how to thank them, so THANK YOU all for taking the trouble and time to read. Soooo proud of Jessica and thank her for her role as super facillitator. Love, Doc

I really wish there was more Dem attention in western NC. I understand the strategies of engaging voters in urban areas, but ignoring rural voters is just going to produce the same negative results.

Thanks for all you do!
