Holy cow, I had conversations with aides of Bennet, Hickenlooper, DeGette, AND Durbin. Was not expecting to talk to anyone! Thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you.

Thank you so much for all the opportunities to help Ohio defeat the anti-democracy Issue One on August 8, 2023! This is another critical off cycle election that has huge ramifications not just in Ohio but everywhere - for the 2024 Senate election, for abortion rights referendum in 2023 and minimum wage referendum likely in 2024. I am hoping folks will pour their energy into the last month of this special election like we all did in Wisconsin and make it a bell weather for a better future!

I believe they will. There were over 200 people on that call yesterday! For an Ohio special election!

Agree that copying letter script and editing to make it personal is the way to go. Resistbot is the easiest. I thank you for your work

Jess, you are so right about making phone calls "in person". The legislative assistants are so helpful.

One important caveat: they all said make sure you are a constituent before making a call. They told me nonconstituents really don't have any sway on their legislators' opinions or behavior. In fact, they ALL asked my ZIP Code before we had our conversations.

Just sharing this information with all of us so that we don't spin our wheels. We will have a lot of calls to make in the next 18 months, so we have to be smart about how we target our energy.

Thank you for all that you do, Jess. You are an amazing driving force!

Oh absolutely. I guess I should have specified. We ONLY call our own reps unless we're calling someone who chairs a committee or is in a leadership position (like Schumer). If we can't vote for them they do NOT care what we think!

Friends, we often visit in this space about how this fight is as important on the local and state as well as the national level. Heavy on my heart this weekend is that the NRA is hoping to relocate to Texas, a leader in mass shootings, fresh off the May 6, Allen Outlet Mall that killed children and parents.

Specifically, the plan is that State Farm Inc., would sublease a space to the NRA in Richardson, TX, my home. Richardson is a city that has successfully navigated much change in the last 50 years, but this would give us a black eye, rightfully, and send a horrible message.

Yes, there's lots of organizing going on, to what avail I do not know. But if you could spare five minutes to send a quick email sentence or two to our Council members as to the message this sends to others around the country, I would be grateful.

Here in North Texas, a little more than a month after the horrific Allen Outlet Mall shootings, that the NRA is considering relocating its headquarters to Richardson, Texas. It would be wonderful if some of the CWCW community would let Richardson City Council members know what a black eye this would be for Richardson and for Texas. Zip code reminds us of the power of a hand addressed and hand written snail mail letter to our own Congressperson or Senator.

Believe it might be smoother to avoid threatening permanent loss of support for failing to vote for or against a single bill; that's similar to shooting soldiers who surrender; they no longer have any motivation other than to fight to the death. Perhaps threaten that the next campaign contribution will be noticeably smaller!
