Ready for some astonishing numbers?

First, the White Dudes for Kamala Harris call last night absolutely smashed it. Over 193,000 people attended (!!) and they raised $4.2 million dollars for Harris for President. Better yet, over 150,000 folks—I assume mostly men?—signed up to join White Dudes for Harris and take action!

Actor Jeff Bridges, who played The Dude in the 1998 film The Big Lebowski, was on the call. After listing a bunch of Harris’s accomplishments he concluded by saying “I’m white, I’m a dude, and I’m for Harris.” And there you have it!

From what I’m told there were 250K on the Women for Harris call. Again, an eye-popping number.

But there’s more! Focus For Democracy reports that there were 5,686 attendees on their Sunday night call—a new attendance record. Their community pledged $3,831,479 (with more pledges still coming in). With the $1,200,000 in matches from anonymous donors, this means their recommended programs are set to receive over $5 million—also an all-time record for one of their events. I wasn’t there, so don’t know who else they recommended, but I know the incredible Galvanize was one of their grantees, and that’s a really good thing!

Finally, according to the Harris campaign, over 29,000 volunteers turned out this weekend for their 100-day-out Weekend of Action. These volunteers knocked 126,000 doors and made 768,000 phone calls. WOW!

Over the past week, 360,000 people have signed up to volunteer in support of Vice President Harris.

And Kamala Harris’s favorability rating is shooting up, while Trump’s is stagnant or even falling. One poll has her favorables up 8 points —in a week! I’ve seen others go even higher.

The point is this: we’re surging. We’re ascendant. It feels great. We’re poised to win a victory that is sweeping, commanding, and decisive. Could that change if all of this energy dissipates? Certainly. Could something unforeseen and terrible happen to sabotage us? It’s always possible. Could our fortunes change? Obviously!

Is the ultimate outcome up to us? Together? Working our hearts out with love at the center? Always.

And when we approach things that way? History shows that we win.

So let’s get to work one more time.

I understand that House Democrats are introducing a new law that dramatically expands penalties for violating workers' rights. It’s called the LET'S Protect Workers Act, (it’s as yet unnumbered). The bill would do a lot of things, like raise the fine for violating child labor law, set new penalties for retaliation against workers who exercise their family and medical leave rights, improve mine safety, and more. The bill also targets bosses who steal wages. Please ask the Congressmember to sign on as a co-sponsor right away. Thanks!

Last year, the Media and Democracy Project started collecting signatures to submit to the leadership of the largest media outlets, requesting that they use their Pro-Democracy Election Coverage Guidelines when covering elections. 

They asked the media to: 

- Cover the elections as if they mattered more than a sports score
- Make threats to democracy clear
- Protect Americans from disinformation 

They are sending the signatures to media outlets in mid-August. Please sign if you haven't already.

The majority of Americans have lost faith in the Supreme Court’s ability to act as a neutral arbiter of the law. The Supreme Court continues to hand down decisions that are increasingly divorced from the values and viewpoints of the American people.

It’s time for Congress to restore public trust in the Court by creating term limits for current and future Supreme Court justices with the TERM Act. The TERM Act (H.R. 5566) would create 18-year term limits for current and future justices and give each President two Supreme Court appointments during the first and third years of each term they are in office.

No other major democracy in the world gives lifetime appointments to judges, and 49 states already have term limits, mandatory retirement ages, or elections for members of their highest courts. It’s time the federal government follows their lead.

As a constituent, I am urging you to become a cosponsor of the TERM Act (H.R. 5566) and build support among your colleagues in Congress. It’s time to restore trust in the highest court in our land.
