Hi, all, and happy Thursday! I know this email is quite late, but my mom and I are getting ready to drive to Maine again tomorrow, this time to pick up Mj from camp and head on to Nova Scotia. This newsletter, then, will be doing double duty as today’s and tomorrow’s. I’m sure you won’t mind.
Please keep helping Ohio! We have 65,000 absentee ballots out that we need to get folks to turn in. They will be overwhelmingly democrats who requested them. Please help make calls or texts to remind those voters to send them off!
My sister teachers in Fairfield county. She is 70 years old and working to get the vote out. She (and I) are both highly offended by what has been going on in OH. Just so other Ohioan who are (and there’s plenty who aren’t) as offended by the legislature trying to twist and confuse the state constitution. No. Just stop.
She took her husband to the VA in Chillicothe last week. She said it’s polluted with Trump. There’s a lot to do in OH, but I’m positive Aug 8th will be voted down.
Here is David Pepper link to donate for reaching those 65,000 ballots sitting on kitchen tables! $50 reaches 1000 voters. Money well spent! Already donated, if you can too, THANK YOU
Markers For Democracy hosted Nathaniel Stinnett of Environmental Voter Project last week and now we are converts to EVP. We signed up for the Long Island webinar because we are working on a bunch of races there. We also recommend their postcard trainings. Very well organized! They have two postcard orientation/trainings coming up: https://www.environmentalvoter.org/get-involved
Sounds like, "All politics is local," a phrase I've heard once or twice. Great advice, Jess. I'll keep my eyes open for such events, and try to help where I can.
Have a great time, and be safe if going to those areas in Nova Scotia that are direct evidence of disruptive climate change. Much love to all those up there who suffer in the wake of the fires and floods.
Thanks, Gary. The area we stay in, near Lunenberg, seems OK so far, but we've only been here a day.A bit warmer than normal, but within the range of tolerable, and still so beautiful.
That is my Braver Angels streak. I imagine you have no experience with Republicans in the 1950s; they barely existed in the South. In 1964 there was ONE Republican mayor in NC.
Hey Jessica! If you like going to political gatherings, go to Republican ones too. You are an interested expert who can evaluate accurately what they are doing and bring back news. You may not approve as well as disagree, and you may be surprised to learn new angles. Insight is always valuable. And you share so well.
Thanks, John. While your point is well taken I'm a sensitive type, so I leave that job to those who can better stomach it. I'm best at helping the helpers, not lurking with the harmers. (:
Your awesome love reading your message today and yes when I lived in Syracuse the summer heat was unbearable and humid I'd get these red hives on my legs and arms they went away once the snow n rain started :)
I understand; the same streak exists for some Republicans. It is as though one is being disloyal to one's self if one seeks a compromise. I think it is even more important to seek a dialectic that results in an improved concept better than a simple compromise. It is difficult to hold at the same time two ideas that are seemingly contradictory and knead them together into a concept for more effective governance and solve a complex problem. Right now my fear of a Trump reelection dominates my wish for a No Labels/Braver Angels/problem solvers caucus/majority unaligned voters/centrist political party opportunity to break the dysfunctional stranglehold of the duopoly of Dem/GOP. We have 16 months to see what develops.

Ack! I'll do some calling from Nova Scotia!
Hi Nancy,
My sister teachers in Fairfield county. She is 70 years old and working to get the vote out. She (and I) are both highly offended by what has been going on in OH. Just so other Ohioan who are (and there’s plenty who aren’t) as offended by the legislature trying to twist and confuse the state constitution. No. Just stop.
Please thank your sister for us!
Will do. She is dedicated.
Wow, your sister is my hero!

I’m feeling good about it, too. I’m in Hamilton County and I’ve been canvassing every weekend since late June.
THANK YOU NANCY!
Aw, thanks Jessica! I’ve talked to so many women (men, too but esp women) who are furious with the state legislature for this. I love the solidarity!

Yes I'll put that in Monday's! Thanks!
Hi Jessica. Have a wonderful time. Thank you for posting my action. I appreciate it.
It was a good one. Thank you!
YES! Ohio on Aug.7 or 8, the 8th is a Tues. Very important to helping put protection of abortion rights into the Ohio Constitution.
100%. I've been talking about little else for the last two months.

OMG I am SO HAPPY I'm not alone in promoting them anymore! I LOVE them! Thank you for getting involved! Yaaaay!
We are very excited about the upcoming webinar about Long Island. There is a big water issue there and the Republican legislature refused to put the issue on the November ballot. (Sound familiar?) https://northportjournal.com/outdoors/republican-legislators-fail-to-approve-suffolk-county-water-quality-restoration-act-for-public-vote
That sounds great!

Enjoy your trip with your mom!
Thank you, Bob!

We need people with a Bravel Angels streak. I'm trying to be one, but it's hard for me.
Braver.
