The enthusiasm is palpable. Markers For Democracy normally takes two weeks off at the end of August through Labor Day and we decided this week that we are going to keep going because people are fired up and there will be so many postcards to write. The Harris campaign is doing so many things well that we started at #cat-ladies-for-Harris channel to share all the videos and the memes.
This is a great decision, Ellen. Markers for Democracy is a terrific group. We can't take off any time from now through Nov. 5. I also think #cat-ladies-for-Harris is brilliant!
Hi Ellen, I think the cat ladies idea is talking hold in a way J.D. Vance never imagined!!
I got an invitation today from a "a Sister District organizer and a “childless cat lady” who DOES have a direct stake in our country, no matter what J.D. Vance thinks".
She organized a phone bank for "Childless Cat Ladies and their friends" tomorrow night from 4 - 6 pm. (They have regularly scheduled phonebanks, but I think it's just tomorrow's that dedicated to cat ladies ;-)
I wrote a "childless cat ladies" round for my local pub trivia night. Ten questions about Dolly Parton, Rosa Parks, Louisa May Alcott, etc. I very much doubt I got Harris any new votes, but it goes to show how deeply that meme has already penetrated American culture.
Kamala's new ad is fantastic! I can't wait to see it in Michigan. She has really hit the ground sprinting -- in her high heels, no less ;-)! We are SOOOOO EXCITED in Michigan. She will win here. We will push back on the racism and misogyny already rearing its truly ugly head. The R's have no shame; we will call it out every time we see it.
The Billionaire Minimum Tax is a great idea based on AGI, but including unrealized capital gains is unreasonable and probably unworkable as well. We'd be much better off focusing on tax compliance and enforcement which the current administration has done a good job of starting and which we can hope President Harris will continue. Another avenue for increased revenue from the .1% is removal of the income cap on Social Security taxation. Based on IRS figures, over 50% of reported income is tax free relative to Social Security and it's time that was changed.
Rep and Senators contacted (they're co-sponsors of the Amendment!), letters sent, Zoom mtg signed up for and link sent to friends. And Calif. Congressional race postcards going to the post office this afternoon.
It really changes the conversations with friends and family for the better when there are concrete positive actions to take.
Jess- thanks for keeping the rest of us uplifted during the past month's depressing time. It's really nice to feel reenergized now that Kamala is in the driver's seat.
A couple rando thoughts I’m having during these recent “We Can Do It!” days:
1. Limit political campaigns to, say, 9 months before an election. They do it in other countries.
2. Press for statehood for Washington D.C.. (and Puerto Rico)—the residents of the District of Columbia have no representation in the Senate or Congress /something, something Eleanor Holmes Norton. The DC population is greater than Vermont’s and Wyoming’s (or is it Montana? - one of those mountain and cattle filled rectangles).
Remember, not everyone has a parent or guardian who will walk them through the process. Offer to be their voting doula!
⬆️
Love the "voting doula" idea! But let's not limit it to just helping young people register!
An elderly couple I've been friends with for 30 years called me to hear my take on the recent political events. They are still mentally sharp, but physically they are definitely declining. I pointed out that they ought to apply for their absentee ballot NOW even though the ballots wouldn't be going out until early September. But the system was FIFO, so if they requested the ballots early they would be at the head of the queue to get them! I pulled up our state's web portal to request an absentee ballot, gave the husband the web URL and walked him through the steps to make the request.
I also reviewed our states relatively new Voter ID laws and explained that seniors could use long expired photo IDs (the wife stopped driving a while back and I knew she hadn't renewed her driver's license when it expired. I also told him if he had any questions AT ALL to give me a call and I'd walk him through any issues.
Kamala wants Universal Health Care. Bernie's M4a sounds great but it is a command. MCRA, Medical Care Restoration Act, addresses some realities of practicing medicine and surgery, for better quality and lower cost, that Bernie did not know HOW to make M4a address. I feel sure he would and would recognize MCRA as doing so now. MCRA is Universal and Voluntary; permissive legislation that allow us to vote with our feet. Text 10 pages in Chapter 2 of "The Price Of Eggs Is Down" amazon kindle or paperback. Love, Doc www.dykers.com
To paraphrase Simon Rosenberg: We are strong, they are weak, and Trump is the biggest piece of shit probably ever to scourge our politics. Don't be afraid of them, they're flailing and desperate. Let's go win!

They really have become quite shameless with that stuff— appalling
This is wonderful news and I'm going to post your tick-tock on my Facebook Page. Let's run with this.
Yay!

I do agree with that very much.
Blue voters guide is so helpful! Thank you so much for all you do.
Isn’t it wonderful? And all volunteer run too!

I love that so much thank you!
Just wanted to share that I convinced somebody to vote last night, I was very proud 😅
Sarah, that’s absolutely amazing! How did you do it?
And so you should be!!

Happy to be of service!

Let’s add two more stars to Old Glory!

Right on!
Hi, I know Jessica has resources indicating best ways to give donations. Can someone steer me to these recommendations? Thanks, Michael

Thank you!
Also it is so thrilling how people are so excited about Kamala. I felt confident that we would win this election before, but now I have no doubts
🙌🙌
Thank you for a positive informative message.
I recommend that we all read “Autocracy,INC.” by Anne Applebaum to better educate us on what we’re up against in this election.
Thanks for your good works Ms. Craven.
Sure thing!
