All of this! And the joy and excitement is REAL. VP Harris was my first choice in 2019 when she announced her run for president and over the years, I have been one of her biggest champions as the media marginalized her. So one of my biggest fears about switching nominees was that people would not recognize how amazing she is. I was devastated yesterday about Biden stepping down (bc of the media's asymmetrical warfare) BUT I have been so heartened and delighted to see - as you noted Jess - the HUGE outpouring of excitement by my less political friends. The fundraising is through the roof! The 44K people who showed up to the last minute And We Win With Black Women call! Definitely writing to President Biden. He will go down in history as one of the greatest presidents of all time - right up there with Washington and Lincoln. And as @chemimommy (on Twitter said so perfectly: "When Kamala wins, Joe Biden will go down in history for nominating the first Black woman to the SCOTUS and first Black woman to be VP and President." https://x.com/chemimommy/status/1815173729149698487
Well said. Now the attacks will begin. Republicans can’t find the guts to admit they are racists, so they hide behind petty sniping. It will backfire-turnout will be through the roof-women, minorities and the young will respond with outrage.
Leigh McGowan "Politics Girl" also put out a great Instagram post about Kamala and her accomplishments earlier this month. 'Kamala Did What?': https://www.instagram.com/p/C88CFr2hhil/
Of course. A handwritten note to Joe at the White House. It fits with his generation, his grace and his dignity. And I agree with you about the 'new' note of excitement. I felt it and I also thought what a formidable opponent Kamala will be!
It’s been a weird, exhausting stretch. People have always underestimated Joe Biden and that’s always been a mistake. What he can continue to do for Americans without having to campaign could be truly awesome. People have also always underestimated Kamala Harris. I smell another mistake.😊
I got an email from Jeff Jackson, my House Rep, who is also the king of social media so he included a link to a video he made last night about our new reality that you might find informative:
Also I got an email from my County Democratic Chairman stating that the NC DNC delegation voted unanimously yesterday to endorse Kamala Harris. I believe a few other states did the same. If she gets enough votes committed to her that would avoid an open convention. And as we saw with Trump picking J.D. Vance as his running mate, it is the presidential candidates choice although people can try and put pressure on her, I guess.
Jeff Jackson, gerrymandered out of Congress, next AG for North Carolina, and will bring votes to the top of the ticket. My bet for US Senate in 2026 and our President before long. Seems to me to have the combination of talents not only for election but also for governance. Those talents do not often go together. Have not heard about NC DNC delegation action yet, but Jan Nichols will be prepared.
HI John, You probably already know, but I had an email from Meck Dems yesterday and they voted unanimously for Harris. I think they did it Sunday night.
Check out this great comment someone sent me today:
I keep hearing people ask, “Is America ready for a woman president? Or a gay president?” Funny thing is I never heard anyone ask if America was ready for an incompetent, vindictive, mentally unstable, misogynistic, homophobic, racist, traitorous egomaniac and yet, here we are.
I was at a baseball game with a large group of my family members, and when the news came in, I thought my day was ruined. I felt so sad and angry, not to mention fearful. But a lot of calm and peace washed over me as Biden endorsed Harris. I, too, am surprised by how fast I was able to go from despair to hope. The unity I've seen now is truly exciting! I know it won't always be like this, but after several days straight of near panic attacks, I'm going to bask in this, lol.
Dems need to get their messaging act together quickly. More so as a result of Vance coming on board and Trump being his usual desperate self than because of what's happened with Biden and Harris. The 'reality based community' issue from the Bush years, while of uncertain origin, got at something entirely real. And that unreality should be the thing I'm describing as 'real' pretty much sums up where we are, more divorced from reality and the truth than ever. Which means, I think, that arguments from and about reality aren't the currency. They won't get traction. Not to say the messaging shouldn't be rooted in reality -- it should be -- but it's more about the quality and coherence of the narrative built on that underlying reality. And that means the Dems reclaiming their identity, on which Vance is infringing, without becoming an identity movement, two very different things.
Biden, thank God, has made this much more possible by returning the party to its roots in Roosevelt. Not only nothing to be ashamed of here but much to be proud about. And equally much for Republicans to actually be ashamed of which we should be shoving in their faces continuously. I mean, for Vance to be pretending Republicans haven't smashed the middle class and wrecked the lives of working people is shockingly brazen and inaccurate but he might get away with it if we let him, a pure 'reality based community' problem. Reality will only be our friend if we own it and dress it up well. Dems seem to find this demeaning. We had better get over it. Lies, after all, give you loads of latitude. Highly customizable outcomes. They're luring people into a perverted Disneyland where they will all be destroyed. Then the super-rich and their lackeys can live like kings.
Not that they aren't doing pretty well already. But they want to lock it in forever which means some kind of authoritarianism or totalitarianism. Those are the stakes.
Thanks for posting the physical address, Jess—I have never hand written a letter to a president in my 54 years but I will for Joe!
Yay thank you, Kate!
I missed it. Can we also have the email address again too?

I saw that!
I love her! But I mostly listen to her longer format interviews on YouTube. You can find a complete listing of episodes here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjGEdj5RpjMfJMjy_J5C1AiXsc9TGltXx
I like to sit down and listen while writing postcards (if the script isn't too complicated) - or at least addressing them.

I agree on all counts!

Worried that somehow the Republicans will block Kamala. I don’t know exactly process but it is NOT a done deal. Right?
I want her, we want her…THEY do not & THEY will use any/all resources to block her. Help me understand next necessary steps, please!
From everything I'm hearing it's not possible.

yes, thank you. And Hooray! Hope she has an open convention to nominate the Veep.

I can't wait to get my Kamala Harris - (whoever) bumper sticker!
