Hi, all, and happy Wednesday! I’m in a meeting so I’ll keep this quick. There are lots of frustrating, angering, and even heartbreaking things happening in the news right now. Below we will try to address a few of them. Remember—we can’t change everything that’s wrong in the country, but that doesn’t absolve us of the responsibility to do our part. That’s why we’re here! Our many small actions, taken together, can carry surprising force.
I left a messsge for Bel Edwards saying, I wrote postcards to voters to help elect Governor Bel Edwards, and my only reservation about that was that I'm pro-choice and he's not. That's why I'm surprised he hasn't acted faster to help the children being held at Angola prison under extremely dangerous conditions. He's supposed to be pro-life, he needs to protect those children's lives.
Blue Wave Movement’s Ohio postcard campaign #2 for a NO VOTE on the constitutional amendment requiring a 60% threshold for approving citizen ballot initiatives is ingenious. There is no mention of abortion. The focus is on efforts to get a citizen initiative on the ballot for a minimum wage of $15 plus tips. This should have broad appeal to low wage workers and hopefully spur them to vote in the August 8th special election.
I ordered Blue Wave sometime ago. I just received word they are sending my postcards. Yes, the scripting is good.
I just finished 100 postcards for Activate America. Their script said something about women's reproductive rights, but many of the addressees were male! So I changed it to say the Republicans' ploy to end majority rule, a practice that's been in place since 1912.
You can still sign up with Postcards to Voters to write to Ohio voters about Issue 1, the state Constitutional Amendment. The script does not mention reproductive rights: it says "Ohio voters can make laws through ballot initiatives with a simple majority. Keep this freedom by voting No on Issue 1." It then provides early voting and election day info, with links to VoteOhio.gov and a hashtag, #VoteNoInAugust. Positive, simple, quick to write. And, I have a (probably lame) question about calling DoJ about the Texas cruelty towards migrants attempting to cross the Rio Grande. There are several choices as you call the number: report a crime/make a complaint, report civil rights violations, several others. Which is most appropriate for reporting the Texas cruelty? ((Sorry, and is it obvious to everyone else? Sigh, if so.))
Yes! Firstly, the Postcards to Voters info should still be in my doc--I hope so! As for the DOJ, I thought there was a general comment option, no? I started to call this AM but got stopped--I've called many times before and thought it was straightforward. Sorry about that.
I stumbled upon them shortly after the 2016 election, searching for something, anything, I could do in the wake of that... event. PtV has been a sanity saver for sure. :)
Your tinyurl.com/helpOH is an excellent idea and resource! This would have been even greater if it had come earlier in this election cycle. I'm already writing postcards through Activate America and letters through VoteForward, but sometimes look for different outlets. I hope you'll continue to be an aggregator of cards and letters opportunities for other critical elections and issues.
I could have sworn I did put it in a couple of other times, but perhaps I didn't. And yes, I always do an aggregated doc of actions for any big election. I can't seem to not do it. (:

Thank you!
Heck yes. I’m exhausted so will take a cat nap, and will call all tonight before bed. Anytime I can lovingly “fight” the good fight, I am in.
Thank you for gathering all this together for us to take action on.
Of course! happy to help!

OK!
It is. I took it off of the doc because I think it's too late to request postcards, no?

I write a lot with PTV and have since it started over 6 years ago! Thanks for bringing them up.
