You recently wrote (7/10) about supporting Joe Biden and I completely agree with you. He’s not young, but he has vision and a great administration in place. To that end we need to contact the DNC and insist that they not interfere with the nomination process. We don’t need a chaotic convention…we need to be united. You can call them at 202-863-8000 or leave a comment on their website. They need to hear from people doing the work in the trenches. So does Adam Schiff…contact him at 202-225-4176.
The pundits, MSM and defeatists are all wrong. Democratic activists at the grassroots level are coming out of the woodwork. 42,000 people on the HCR/Red Wine & Blue Project 2025 Zoom on Monday, folks being told they have to wait to join postcarding campaigns because the campaigns are over-capacity until August. The list goes on. Be neither afraid nor disheartened. Just keep on fighting and do what you can. We are not going to let the fascists win.
I agree. I made a rather expletive-laden post yesterday about how white men need to stop telling us we're going to lose. Judging by the response I think I tapped a nerve.
Have Democrats lost all self respect? It is astoundingly disturbing, that having delivered the most significant social programs for Americans in 75 years and aligned with the best values of the Democratic Party, it seems to be collectively conceeding defeat. Have we succumbed to the "ageism" attack? Have we given up on our values on how a good and just society should operate? Have we bought into the perverse fantasy that the New York Times and the liberal MSM picks presidents. Not us? Are we somehow embarrassed by the astounding record Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have achieved in their first term? The great succeses are too numerous to list in this comment, but I'm sure everyone on this newsletter can list 10 quickly. Have we simply been bullied into fear and submission by a heinous juvenile delinquent and his band of grifter fascists? We have an ASTOUNDINGLY GREAT record to run on. Better than Obama achieved in 8 years. We are not just fighting for our liberal democracy. We are fighting to save our civil society for the sake of all Americans. Given the way Joe Biden is being treated by his own party, it's a further measure of this steady character, that he hasn't resigned and told the failure loving Democrats to take a long walk off a short plank. Everyone should read the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights today. Then wake up tomorrow and double down on winning We have sooo much more to offer the country than the MAGA GOP grievance party who are trying to take us back to the middle 18th century.

I just got off a great Zoom meeting with NOPE Neighbors and Heather Cox Richardson. HCR is so quotable, but I want to highlight what she said about grassroots activists. There are more of us than ever and "we are the guardrails." The courts aren't coming to save us, the media isn't coming to save us. It's up to us. And while it's scary-sounding, it's also empowering.
Also, she alerted us to People Magazine's write up about Project 2025. It clearly communicates the dangers to our democracy. HCR points out that People Magazine tackled a subject that "legacy media" is still refusing to cover. Here's the link to People Magazine's article:

Thank you Jessica for all you do! Thought I'd share this story: I did a phone bank with Swing Blue Alliance for North Carolina this evening. Right before it, I was outside with my kids playing with a neighbor and had to run to jump on. When I told my neighbor I was off to a phone bank, I learned she and her husband did GOTV for the 2020 election. She shared how she's been feeling so hopeless and that maybe taking action would help her. So I told her this:
When you look at this election from a 1,000 foot view, it looks hopeless. But when you're on the ground there are so many volunteers and there is so much energy, you realize it's not. I'm trying to accept that I have no control over who will be on the ticket, assassination attempts or what's swarming above our heads, but I can put my head down and take small actions that when we add them all up, work. I'd rather do what I can, than do nothing and wonder what the outcome could have been if I had done something.
We talked about how the data shows what we do works. She said I reinvigorated her and she is going to find a phonebank. And of course I will share this newsletter with her to take action and as proof this election is not hopeless.
I love you, and HCR and Hubbell and all of your wonderful followers. THANK YOU!! I would love for Red Wine and Blue to change their name. Way too many women drink too much wine. It’s not a joke.
YES! I sent out the email today for my upcoming postcard-writing parties (every other week until the election) and I think there's going to be a great turnout based on the response. I'm also signed up for text banking. I'll report back after the first postcard party!

Jessica, I came here to just thank you for being the voice of sanity, especially on TikTok. The newest video about what white men should be doing saved me yesterday. I had just learned about the “private” meeting Schumer and Jeffries had with Biden asking him to step aside that some $&@$ had released to NYT. (I swear to God some fools in Congress don’t have a clue about either ethics or how to wield power. But you see that as clearly as every other woman I know does.) I had a meltdown, momentary but exhausting. And then just shut down all media and took my dog for a long walk.
When I got home, I found the video on Instagram. And spent my evening writing postcards. Today, I am meeting a friend and we will chat about whose local campaign we’ll door knock for. Without that video, I might have cancelled. Now I’m ready to ignore the bastards and get back to work. Thanks for that! Onward….
