Words matter. Specificity matters. “Alligator Alcatraz” is a minsnomer and invites cruel and cynical mockery. This place is The Everglades Concentration Camp. My gratitude to a commenter on another Substack this morning, who called it what it is.
I had called this place American Auschwitz, but it seems to me that clearly acknowledging this place as a concentration camp, and naming its exact location in our country, is accurate.
I totally agree with you for a couple of reasons. As an animal lover I hate it when we make any animal the bad guy. As a person who considers herself an environmentalist I feel we have to keep it in the public's eye that this concentration camp is adding to the destruction of one of the most amazing ecosystems the US has. As an American I feel we must be honest with the public and call it what it is, a concentration camp. As a human being I am appalled at the joyfullness with which the entire GOP Congress embraces this cruelty (no doubt bragging and laughing about it in the church parking lot after an ineffective preacher had the gall to mention some of the words of Jesus like welcome the stranger, remember what you do to the least of these you do to me.....
Well, the Senate will be on its way to breaking yet another American institution because of Trump. They will vote to defund the corporation for public broadcasting and public TV and radio. As Rand Paul said “how can we show that we’re serious about the deficit if we don’t cut the $9 billion that goes to public TV and radio?” How you can show you are serious is quit spending so damn much money on ICE and use it on something that will benefit the population as a whole like public TV and radio. I can’t believe these people. I hope some of the senators who might still have a brain and a conscience will at least save this institution. But I’m not holding my breath and it’s very depressing.
When the Pedophile President talks about the death of young children in a Texas flood, no one wants to hear him say “Many people died. Many beautiful young girls.” He still sounds like a creepy pedophile.
"The specific policy in question is her [Kristi Noem's] new rule that any FEMA contract over $100,000 needs her personal approval."
This "personal approval" ploy is a purposeful power play and delaying tactic. Employed on Jan 6 by then Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller and his Chief of Staff Kash Patel - to delay deployment of National Guard. Presumably to give the GOP insurrectionists free rein.
I would like to see some additional assistance for Seniors in the outline of Project 2029. Though there are many great aspects that address housing and healthcare those are not enough for seniors to be able to stay in their own homes. We know it’s less costly than nursing homes, and certainly for many seniors who do not need full time care but just some help with household tasks, simple medical care, etc. it would be a huge benefit for many seniors in the middle and low income brackets. Nursing homes also need additional assistance to provide adequate and/or more care. Many medical illnesses would be mitigated by better, happier, healthier, less stressful living situations for seniors. While I agree in all ways of providing more assistance for children and families, I notice that seniors are often forgotten! Thank you!🙏🏻
I like this add on and agree that the original covered much of what's needed. I think the idea of help to stay in your is wonderful and maybe this could include seniors, widows/widowers, disabled who need handymen/women etc. either by building communities or providing this as a way to do national service. Oh and as part of the education dream-school or home aids for tutoring etc. l
Yesterday or the day before when you reported good news, you included the end of the strike of Philadelphia workers in DC33. But the conclusion wasn't celebratory. The union did not get the 5% pay raise each of the next 3 years that they wanted, but settled for 3% as Mayor Cherelle Parker offered. The union was getting close to being served with an injunction that would have forced them back to work because many of them were sanitation workers. Parker was pleased, the union wasn't.
Are there TV ads being made and shown about the "camps"? I live in a blue state but I'm wondering if there should be a targeted ad campaign in red state newspapers and TV stations.
I read Ann Lehman's article on Project 2029 . I think that the idea of mandatory service for all citizens will help us transition to the AI take over of many people's jobs in the future. They could choose an area that they are passionate about and develop skills and knowledge in that area . Let's say it is the food supply or climate. As they go through life they could contribute to these areas. Robert Reich talked about the need for income for all as a means of sustaining the lack of jobs but increasing AI products to be purchased. WE need to prepare young minds to focus on other things than climbing the corporate ladder.
I am adding this to the piece that was submitted about project 2029. A deeper dive from a resistance perspective. Tad does amazing work and this is an excellent watch.
The basic outline of a Project 2029 is a good start. I'd include a section addressing Ethics Reform for the Federal Courts, with emphasis on the Supreme Court. Now, how do we flesh out this whole plan?
Ugh. A pox on Dump. The NATO “deal” is just another capitulation to his lord and master, to distract us from Epsteingate. There won’t be much left of Ukraine in 50 days, given how badly Putin is pummelling the country night after night. Horrible.
It would be helpful to have a list of accurate information about the adverse effects of the OBBB Act (https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/119/hr1/text), including the specific provisions in the Act that cause each effect. The same applies to the final version of the "Rescissions Act of 2025" when it is enacted (https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/119/hr4/text#google_vignette). The list could be organized as a three-column spreadsheet: Act title, Provision within the act (section, subsection, etc.), Effect.
Compiling this summary will require effort from reliable and capable people who have studied the effects of these laws. The main benefit of compiling these cause-and-effect data and making the list widely available is that it will help hold these politicians accountable for their actions when they run for re-election.
Then, in every jurisdiction where a Senator or House Representative who voted for these harmful laws is running for re-election, we can highlight the damaging effects of their votes. It is crucial that the statements used in this voter education effort are clearly written and accurate. For example, "[Senator/Representative X] voted to terminate Federal funding for [X], which [will cause/has caused] [clearly state the adverse effect]."
Many of these truthful statements could be short enough to fit on a T-shirt, bumper sticker, or yard sign. In every way possible, we need to connect the full range of these negative consequences back to the individual legislators who are responsible, before and during their re-election campaigns.

Looks like Project 2029 is floating around in a few ways. I've been following this site/movement since earlier this year: https://www.project2029.me/
It continues to get more fleshed out over time.
Thank you for all you do.

Ann Lehman's proposal is a nice start. Perhaps her gender and racial equality can add LGBTQIA+ rights.
