Hi, all, and happy Friday!

I’m sorry this is so late today—honestly I’m finding it increasingly difficult to beat back my email inbox, and in the 24 hours after Trump’s first federal indictment that’s become doubly true.

Anyway, yes! He’s been indicted! I’ll leave the punditry and legal explications to others more qualified to dispense them and simply pass on some excellent messaging guidance from Anat Shenker-Osorio of the Research Collaborative. I second every word:

Americans value our freedoms – our freedom to elect leaders who respect our will, protect our interests and govern in our name. Now, a Grand Jury of everyday Floridians across race, background, and party issued a federal indictment of the former MAGA President for threatening America by stealing national security documents, conspiring to obstruct justice, and lying in order to cling to power. Yet the MAGA Republicans in office today that supported, schemed and covered up for him want to overturn our legal system to allow him to evade consequences, carry on this criminal conspiracy and seize power unchecked. 

From the House of Representatives to the Supreme Court to state legislatures, including the very scene of the crime in Florida, they want to take away our freedoms and rule for the wealthy few. We must come together and demand that anyone who aided, abetted or excused the MAGA criminal conspiracy be held accountable so we can make this a place where our leaders honor their oaths, protecting our country and our freedoms. 

If you talk about the indictment with politically pliable friends or family members, please use language like the above. More on the indictment and the best way to message it can be found here and here.

OK, all. It’s a big day at the end of a big week. I’m going to skip legislator calls today because frankly I don’t have time for them—consider it an indictment-day bonus!

The rule of law is working. Good governance is working. YOU are working.

Because of the latter we’ll win.

I’m sure you’ve read about AJ Owens, the Black Florida mom who was shot by a neighbor through that neighbor’s door. Please sign this letter to States Attorney Bill Gladson asking him to charge the neighbor with 2nd degree murder. Awful.

I’m writing to ask you to appoint two new members to the USPS Board of Governors who are willing to fire Louis DeJoy and end his 10-year plan to privatize the post office.

DeJoy and his Republican friends want to hand over this vital American institution to for-profit corporations like the United Parcel Service and FedEx. For decades they’ve worked to privatize a host of public services to pad the profits of their wealthy donors and favorite CEOs.

Privatization would lead to reduced services and higher rates for everyone, but especially rural communities. Private companies have no incentive to reach the hardest-to-serve areas because there’s not enough profit. And when they actually do it, they’ll charge an arm and a leg to get it done

Ousting Postmaster Louis DeJoy is a no-brainer and is a wildly popular sentiment. The future of the USPS is in your hands. Please nominate two Postal Board of Governors candidates who will fire Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and stop the inside sabotage of our postal services. Thanks.
