Hi, all, and happy Thursday! First, I want to send out love and support to everyone in the Northeast who’s trapped inside due to the horrible air there. As a Southern Californian I know exactly how you feel—especially if you have young children—and it’s not good.
BTW I no longer receive the automatic resist bots texts daily. I don’t know why that is or how I started getting it or why it subsequently stopped. But either way I send one every day after I get your newsletter. Thank you
Also encourage responsible forest management!! We are living with the unintended consequences of years of mismanaged forests. Fire is a necessary tool. But it has been suppressed for so long that fires burn hotter and deeper. We need to learn from our mistakes.
Thank you for this, Jessica. Wow, “that guy with the black hair”? “I guess he was right”? Wow. I mean, I was no expert, nor even an activist back then, but in junior high school but I paid attention and did a poster and an paper on the ozone layer and pollution and climate change in the 7TH GRADE!! I won’t say what decade that was 🫢 but geez, we’ve (aka they’ve) known this was coming DECADES AGO and did nothing! (My social studies teacher gave me a trophy for that silly poster, so impressed that I cared about our planet and about the future, I guess? 🤷🏻♀️Why do so many humans need to suffer personally before they take risk and harm seriously? There is no shortage of denial in this dysfunctional country. Ugh.
First - A Huge thank you for the energy and dedication you send all of us. Without you, I wouldn't have the information and ideas to send to my congress people.
This morning there is this post from Timothy Snyder, which you probably already have, that I hope can make it to your newsletter, regarding the plight of the Ukrainians from the burst dam.
I called all three of Senator Schumer's phone numbers (and added the 914 number to my crib sheet) and left voice messages at 2 of the 3. I also left a comment on his web page at https://www.schumer.senate.gov/contact as follows
----------------
Gun Violence Prevention is a Homeland Security Issue
I am a resident of New Rochelle, NY (10801) and a progressive political activist. I am writing in solidarity with Mr. Sam Schwartz and other gun violence prevention advocates who are currently engaged in a sit-down demonstration on the Capitol steps. I understand that Mr. Schwartz has invited Representatives and Senators to visit with the group during the demonstration, but that so far -- to my dismay -- Sen. Schumer has not found time to respond favorably to that invitation. I want the Senator, both as our Senator for New York and as the Senate Majority Leader, to meet to discuss the concerns being expressed by the demonstrators. We must find a way to enact an assault weapons ban, and to develop a gun violence prevention program to ensure safe and secure educational, social, and recreational gatherings of our citizens. PLEASE TALK WITH THEM.
I am also somewhat discouraged that "gun violence prevention" is not listed among the pull-down options on this Comment menu. I do consider this to be a (true) Homeland Security issue.

Hmm that’s weird. If you want them back email me and I’ll put you on an email with the guy who runs it.

Yes I’ve been hearing this!
Thanks Jessica. An editorial note for the ResistBot letter, it's Northrup Grumman, not Grummond.
Oh good Lord! I copied and pasted that part right out of Judd Legum! I passed their typo on. Nice catch.
Thanks.

Yeah. All of that is exactly right.

I would trust his judgement on the effectiveness of these organizations.
You go, Y'All!!
As a Colorado resident, we had a monster fire season, and I definitely feel the pain of the smoke from the Canadian fires. Yeah eh, don’t ya know.

Good for you! Great message! Thanks, Bill!
