Biden had a bad night yet has been successfully governing the country for 4 years. What’s Trump been doing these 4 years? What will Project 2025 do to our American experiment if he gets elected?

I heard someone say that historically, current presidents don’t do well in first debate. Remember Obama’s disastrous debate and how worried we were?

I am crazed at the media coverage. So many saying what a catastrophe the debate was for Biden. NO ONE is saying what a catastrophe it is for this country that MAGA is a ferocious movement and so many are believers despite fact that Trump is a lying felon. No one is pointing to the good things that Biden has done or mentioned the good economy and lower crime rates. Media, I expect more from you.

I am thankful for people like Jen, Robert Hubbell and Heather Cox Richardson because they provide a broader perspective.

Yay, Betsy.I must say that I have had it with CNN. They are NOT friends of We The People.

I agree with everything you said, Betsy, and there is no question that Biden must stay. He's done more for our country than any president in my lifetime, and I'm OLD. And people do know (right?) that it's so much about the good people he has around him - it's not like he has made all the changes single-handedly! But he has the wisdom to know, and the heart to care, to provide the leadership we need to get what the people of this country need.

That wasn't a debate and was NEVER going to be a debate. Presidential "debates" have not been actual debates in decades. Just a chance for the candidates to repeat their talking points ad nauseum. But Trump has taken the communication to a new place, where he just overwhelms everyone with machine-gun lies and fabrications, to the point that people don't know where to start to rebut what he says. But he says nothing of substance anyway. I don't know why he continues to be given a platform by mainstream media. Yes, Hubbell and Cox Richardson are the only ones able to clearly see past the s*#tshow that is Donald Trump. Done with everyone else who holds themselves up as a 'knowing' analyst. They are only looking for clicks. Not going to get them from me!

Sandy B,

Your comment made my day!

Finally!! If I were younger I could probably figure out how to include the Philadelphia Inquirer Editorial from 6/29 calling on Trump to resign. If someone can tell me how to do it, I will. It was terrific! Finally someone in media calling for Trump to resign. Imagine that.

I totally agree.I am done with CNN, done with the NYT, really done with the SCROTUS,pretty much done with CBS and the rest.I have identified clearly now who is the enemy and I will not support them with my viewership or $$.We The People have HCR,Robert Hubbell,Joyce Vance,Lucien Truscott ,Jeff Tiedrich and a host of others who are truthing out there for us.I turned off Nora O’Donnell yet 10 minutes ago and I am identifying the enemy every single day.

I found the people who are calling for Biden to withdraw very surprising, because to me it seems like it's clearly such a bad idea. I have always felt that Trump would not have won in 2016 if the vast majority of us had not been totally blindsided by his winning the nomination. We didn't have enough time to convince people, and to replace Biden as a candidate with 4 months until the election seems like it would put us right back in that spot. Not to mention that except for those 90 minutes, there have been very few doubts about him, and even now, there isn't evidence that things moved in Trump's favor. It's a bad event, not a bad candidate. I hope you get some decent rest soon, that is a lot ❤️

To Jess and everyone:

PLEASE READ today’s Substack articles from Heather Cox Richardson and Robert Hubbell.

With their help, I’m finding the country and the world look a whole lot better.

Let’s just look at Trump. A convicted felon. Everything he said was twisted and a lie!!

Compare that with the TRUTH about how President Biden has been running and guiding our country.

Expand full comment

I read them both as I do every day. Like everyone, the debate left me feeling troubled and concerned. I decided to sleep on it and tune back in today.

Heather Cox Richardson quoted Monique Pressley that gets right to the heart of the matter: “The proof of Biden’s ability to run the country is the fact that he is running it. Successfully. Not a debate performance against a pathological lying sociopath.”

As we all like to say, "The solution to anxiety is action." Robert has a good suggestion. If you haven't done so, "Go to Joe Biden’s official campaign site ( https://joebiden.com/ ) and make a donation now—the amount doesn’t matter.

Millions of donations will be a vote of confidence for Biden. And that is what we need—confidence, not defeatism."

Let's do this!

Yes, yes, YES!

I donated too, last night, to President Biden, even tho I already send an amount monthly. Money talks, although I usually substitute postcard writing for donations.

Thanks for your positive outlook!

Thank you, Joyce. I subscribe to Hubbell's and Richardson's newsletters and have forwarded their articles about the "debate" to friends and family. They are grounding. Biden centers the country's best interests in everything he does. He has accomplished more than most presidents in the history of our country. He champions: the working class, veterans, affordable healthcare, environmental justice, civil rights for people of color, LGBTQ+, women, reproductive rights… the list goes on. He's poised to do so much more. He has my unwavering support.

Jess & CWCW please watch Biden’s Raleigh Rally and let it invigorate you! Prior Josh Stein spoke as well. Here is Gov Cooper the Biden. JOE WAS FANTASTIC! He mentions his debate but glosses over it because the Truth is still TRUE. We must beat Trump.

Hope your event tomorrow with Simon is amazing! Stay strong Jess and everyone!

Wonderful Alyssa! I donated handsomely too! It was fire!!! Yesterday, Biden was over-prepped, under the weather, and fighting a tornado of lies from a malignant narcissist.... but now HE knows as he said “I know how to tell the TRUTH!” And WE know the Liar is tfg! Keep calm all and campaign on!

Expand full comment

I heard from someone in the know that he did three 90-minute prep sessions the DAY OF THE DEBATE. As the insider said, "whoever made that call should be fired." He was exhausted, nervous, sick as a dog, and then overwhelmed by Trump's maniacal ranting. If his sapped demeanor had continued after the debate I'd be concerned. It hasn't. At all. It was a bad night, made worse by stupid decisions by his debate prep team. Move on!!

Expand full comment

WOW! That is so crazy! I wouldn’t have prepped that much the DAY OF! Why does common sense go out the window? Joe was amazing in NC. I swear I can hear Anderson Clayton yell ‘We Love you Joe”! Lol. I hope this debate bs will dissipate quickly this week. It just feels more & more that the media generally is not on the side of democracy....even if they claim to be. Newsome said it immediately after debate on MSNBC that is is unhelpful & unrealistic to replace Biden.

Rep Crockett has been dynamite also saying Bidens performance doesn’t change anything.

Folks, I am astonished at the total abandonment of Joe Biden because of the debate. Meanwhile Trump supporters and GOP never waver from supporting him no matter how dishonest and vile he behaves everyday. Joe can and will be elected our next President. All of the fear mongering by pundits and ‘supporters’ is not helping. I am writing 200 postcards for each of the swing states. I suggest you get busy saving our Democracy by supporting Joe Biden through action instead of surrender!

I'm phonebanking for Biden tomorrow. Ffs, the other guy is literally a rapist. Btw, I hear Biden's killing it today in NC.

Biden had a really bad night .... haven't we all had a "performance" we screwed up?

He needs to fess-up, in public, move on, and continue to show the world his strength, skill, and value. Folks will forget the night he was tired, sick and not his usual self. He has great staff, he let's them identify and accomplish innovations, he has the respect of world leaders which allows him to accomplish things that few others could do. And he will win - I'm convinced.

Thank you for going to protest. Jess - those are horrible decisions the court made. Overturning the Chevron Deference will oppress and damage the health of so many of us. Lawyers are not doctors or scientists and neither are juries. There is a reason federal agencies hire the experts to used facts and data to make decisions.

What I really wanted to tell you that what you wrote today has a mitzvah beyond measure. We will defeat the fascist mob who seeks to rule for their own benefit and aggrandizement. We will.

Interesting that the candidate who is a decent man and leader, who has accomplished more than most presidents since Roosevelt and has righted our country’s economic status better than other nations is the one being mentioned to be removed from candidacy, while the convicted felon, pathological liar and supposed debater who didn’t even directly answer many questions, seems to be free from calls for removal!

In my humble opinion the key to our country’s survival is simple, and yet poignant. On November 5 ALL people need to vote (if they haven’t already). If one chooses NOT to vote, then that’s a vote for trump. If one votes for trump, then that’s a vote for trump. If one votes for a third party candidate or a write-in candidate, that’s a vote for trump. Or, one can check the box next to Joe Biden’s name.

There are only two choices we have for the next four years, and the contrast is so vivid and very clearly defined. Each one of us who believes in democracy has an obligation to get people out to vote. The grass roots organizations and their efforts are vast and easy to support and be a part of in so many different ways.

That’s how I see it -

Thanks for your letter today that is chock full o information. I especially enjoyed reading Billy Wimsett and his Voter Movement Project. You are right about it being long but is totally worth it! I am still reeling a bit from the debate but have dusted myself off and am ready to work to get rid of fascists and support democracy. I will not abandon Biden because of one poor showing though. One day at a time to do the necessary work is my mantra.

We chop wood/carry water without concern about which way the political wind is blowing. Nothing has changed with respect to the importance of supporting Biden and our country against the corruption and hate that opposes us. What happens after a set-back is a measure of the integrity and truthfulness of our cause. Yesterday I mailed 100 postcards to Wisconsin; today I sent another donation to Biden/Harris. Tomorrow will be no different, or will any of the 131 days until the election and the take-down of a traitor. The going is tough, and will get tougher; we need to keep moving ahead steadily, because we must. I'm not quitting, and I have faith in our team to keep moving toward the goal.
