So much good news, and on a Thursday! I share your enthusiasm for Mamdani’s victory. It’s a shining beacon of hope for me. We need rank choice voting in NJ. (I just signed a petition for this this morning). I so wish our more progressive candidates for Gov would have had the same outcome. Sigh. Thank you, Jess, for more great insights & info.

Sure hope you’ll be all in for Mikey Sherrill now that she’s the nominee! We need voter registration and an active Democratic coalition to stop the Trumpian mini-me and respond to the needs of the people in New Jersey.

Thank you for this list of really doable actions. I’ve spent this whole week on Capitol Hill with my union (SEIU) agitating around no cuts to Medicaid. I wish I could say the republican vibe was a positive one (it was not), and yet the support from the Democrats as well as almost all of the regular working folks in DC has been supportive and positive. My sense is the American people support Medicaid and do not wish to punish vulnerable people. Let’s keep fighting to make sure the republicans end up with that same sense.

I sense we're getting close to a tipping point. I could be wrong, but we can't give up now. Thanks for all you're doing!

CWCW newsletter came in just as I was reading this AP News alert: "Prosecutors tell judge government plans to deport Kilmar Abrego Garcia to a country that’s not El Salvador" Is there anything more we can do to help get this man out of this Kafkaesque nightmare? I have called my Rep and senators many times. The GoFundMe for his family is no longer taking donations. The Trump admin is just not going to leave him in peace.

I just made my calls and was able to talk with 2 out of three offices. That allowed me to say more specifics about my concerns. I am happy to have the phones answered.

It’s funny, but the more mainstream dems (looking at you Schumer) rail against Mamdani, the more convinced I am that he is 100% the right person for the role.

I’m writing postcards for Florida Vote By Mail, so I added one for Sen. Murkowski. Run for Something has a great track record and gets my monthly donation. I love the easy actions. Indivisible had its weekly What’s The Plan zoom, which can be watched on utube. I find these calls help me find a lane and not flail around in too many issues. So good. Will make calls too. For me, taking actions is a balm inbetween life’s other routines.

Thanks for all, here, Jess. No news there! To the “Katey for Change” (thanks for that too, Jess!), points on “reality” and “myth” and “how to fight back” and to “uplift the facts,” this is what little I’m doing.

I received an email from my Representative, Nick LaLota yesterday. I semi-hesitate to share since I’d rather not spread the myth, though given present company, it seems that it may be useful. This morning, I called his DC office to refute his claims, his lies.

Please note, before sharing the content of the message, I confirmed with the congressperson’s office that the email I received was not “confidential," and that as a recipient of the email, I could share. I was fairly confident I could freely share, though I wanted to hear it from them. (And a way to say, the email is not sitting idly, and neither am I!) I was told that it’s part of LaLota’s newsletter and it could surely be shared, as follows:

Dear Neighbor,

When it comes to Medicaid and the One Big Beautiful Bill, you deserve the facts—not the fear mongering.

The Lie: Republicans are cutting Medicaid.

The Truth: Under House Republicans’ plan:

✔ Medicaid spending will increase by 25% by 2034

✔ The only people removed from the rolls are:

• Illegal immigrants

• Able-bodied adults who refuse to work, seek work, or volunteer at least 80 hours a month

That’s right—Medicaid isn’t being cut. It’s being protected and prioritized for those who truly need it. In fact, Medicaid spending will grow by 25% by 2034 under House Republicans’ plan.

Here’s how our reforms in the One Big Beautiful Bill keep Medicaid strong and sustainable:

✅ Removing illegal immigrants from the program

✅ Requiring work for able-bodied adults without dependents

✅ Cracking down on waste, fraud, and abuse

Every dollar of waste is a dollar stolen from low-income children, seniors, pregnant women, and individuals with disabilities—the very people Medicaid was designed to help.

That’s the commonsense path forward—and that’s what this bill delivers.

Do you support making these reforms to protect taxpayers and strengthen Medicaid?

Yes - I support these reforms

No - I do not support these reforms

Not sure

In Service,

Rep. Nick LaLota

Member of Congress

Also in my call, after I asked “permission” with respect to the letter from my “member of Congress,” I expressed how stunned I am to yet again be the recipient of my representative’s lies, and lack of care for his constituency, and those he purports to serve across the country. I am no stranger to the office; some days, I’m relatively calm and polite, and other days not so much. Although, I most always remember to thank the staffer for doing their part in the service of we, the people.

I plan to share LaLota’s letter widely, including with other lawmakers. While I do not know if this is the case, if you too have received, in writing, lies about the horrific bill from those who claim to represent you in the House and Senate, please consider sharing, if you haven’t already. As Jess ever reminds us, with her boundless compassion and action, it’s ours to do, with her, and for so many, even those far beyond ourselves. (As it is for many more Dem elected officials, I'd say.)

"being anti-Israel's genocidal policies (e.g., shooting starving, forcibly displaced people at food drops) does not make one an anti-semite."

This American Jew and Zionist (who for decades has protested successive and increasingly extremist Netanyahu regimes) agrees. But millions of AIPAC and CUFI (Christians United For Israel - biggest Israel lobby in the US) influenced voters don't see it that way. And many of them vote more reliably than vote splitting Leftish purity testers.

It’s really not antisemitism to oppose Genocide. The United Nations says so in its charter. Killing people in line for some food is beyond horrid I don’t care what colour their flag is !! Stop the 30,000 pound bunker busters. We know Israel can take out one General anytime it wants. Using them against

Palestinian families make a big hole in every woman’s heart everywhere in the world. STOP THE BOMBS. Talk instead. Learn instead. Grow instead.
