Hi, all, and happy Thursday! My introduction in yesterday’s newsletter prompted one reader, Eric D., to post the below quote from Howard Zinn. Talk about a mic drop! It’s so good I leave it here in its entirety, without further comment: To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness. What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places–and there are so many–where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction. And if we do act, in however small a way, we don’t have to wait for some grand utopian future.
President Biden and AG Garland, specifically asked U.S. Attorney David Weiss to remain in place because of his continuing investigation of Hunter Biden's activities. THAT is what accountable adults do.
Love, love, love the quote. Thanks so much. And here's one from Eleanor Roosevelt to her protege, Allard Lowenstein:
"Eleanor had looked her protege sternly in the eye. ' Well, Allard,' she said, summing up five decades of political wisdom, 'your must remember you can't flush all the toilets.'"
Do we have any recourse about Supreme Court decision to turn down Navajo Nation's "lawsuit arguing that the federal government has the legal duty under treaties signed in the 1800s to develop a plan to provide the tribe with an adequate water supply." [CNN]
Who could we write to about this?
Why is it acceptable to ignore people harmed, subjugated, killed, who live without water in harsh environments? It's just not!!
Happy to say that Sen. Hawley is one of those making the RECOUP Act a bipartisan bill so I was able to thank him for that when I called to encourage him to support the judicial nominees. I also encouraged him to publicly state that an indicted felon should not be a candidate for President for either party. He won't do it, of course, but at some point we've got to break the barrier to Republican renunciation of the failed insurrectionist; if Hawley turns out to be the key log in breaking the jam, there might be hope for Missouri yet.
That's a great idea. I'll see what I can drum up, but in the meantime I do agree that Simon Rosenberg's video is an excellent place to start. So is this White House link: https://www.whitehouse.gov/therecord/
Oh, and welcome to the team! We're so glad to have you!

Appreciate any ideas.
Hmmm not sure but I will keep my eyes out and put an action in the newsletter if I find one. Thanks!
A Florida court has now overturned the law denying gender-affirming care, declaring it unConstutional.
Yes! Amazing, right?

Yeah it sounds like it has a surprising amount of support. Small steps.
