This is a grueling, horrific timeline we are living through. So much despair and toxicity. I’m feeling the weight of it this week. Made my calls, sent my letters, shared important info on my SM but really need a couple of days away from the news. 😞

Here in Ohio, we had a lovely 19-year-old kid, Emerson, who was a star soccer player on his high school, beloved by teachers and his coach and his teammates who came out to protest for his release (and these are kids whose parents probably voted for Trump), who was deported to Venezuela. We also learned of a local Bhutanese couple, 76 and 82, who were deported--no one knows where they are because they came from refugee camps in the 1990s. They literally have no country.

This morning June 20, around 9am Pacific Time, the 9th Circuit has given its decision to leave Trump's Troops in LA under the control of the presidency while California's case winds its way through the courts.

In the meantime, they deferred to Trumps "judgement" of national security issues, erring on the side of caution, until it’s more clearly determined whether what Trump believes is actually grounded in reality.

They rejected Trumps argument that he could do anything. The court emphasized that while it is deferring to the president’s judgment at this stage, it does not consider that judgment immune from legal challenge.

No matter what had happened in the 9th Circuit ruling, both sides were prepared to take the fight all the way. Eventually, the Supreme Court will have the final say.

Historically, SCOTUS has ruled against unchecked presidential power in similar cases. Even though Trump won the 9th Circuit appeal, the Supreme Court is likely to overturn it later just on precedent alone.

“This case is far from over,” California's Attorney General Rob Bonta said in response to the [9th Circuit] ruling. “While the court did not provide immediate relief for [LA] today, we remain confident in our arguments and will continue the fight.”

“The court rightly rejected Trump’s claim that he can do whatever he wants with the National Guard and not have to explain himself to a court,” Newsom said. “The President is not a king and is not above the law. We will press forward with our challenge to President Trump’s authoritarian use of U.S. military soldiers against citizens.”

Newsom and California are already appealing the 9th Circuit's decision.

The ruling Thursday morning largely returns the case back to Judge Breyer.

Unlike Breyer, whose order returned control of the National Guard to California, the 9th Circuit largely ignored the question of whether Los Angeles protests constituted a “rebellion.”

Judge Breyer will later hear on the same day of the 9th Circuit ruling, an injunction request from California that expands the original issues to include Trump’s misuse of the Marines and the Posse Comitatus Act.

Along the way, these arguments will be further refined and the interpretation of the law and constitution will become more obvious to everybody. It's how the judiciary process works to get to the bottom of things.

It's important to continue peaceful protests using signage and speeches, while still showing our visibly growing numbers.

Do not give Trump a chance to legitimize his deployment of the national guard, or the use of his paramilitary version of the gestapo he calls ICE.

I live in Oregon. I am a Vietnam Veteran, a medical oncologist, and a co-author of the Amazon book What We Must Demand for Our Democracy to Survive. We are now living under the iron heel of a fascist POTUS. I called my Senators and left messages. I know they already agree with my sentiments. Should we not be calling Senators and Congressmen who are favoring the Gestapo moves of Trump and his obsequious Homeland Secretary, Kristi Noem? I do not think spending my time convincing two senators who are already convinced will achieve anything notable.

Perhaps we need to have a peaceful protest of ex-military like me and others to stand face-to-face with the USM who are in LA? Are you "following orders" like the German soldiers obeying Hitler? Are you creating fear in your own country? Is this what a US Marine stands for? Are you proud of what you do? How will your children see you?

What we are seeing with Trump is an intellectually challenged deviant of the human race who is known for being a career criminal. Read Wayne Barrett's books from the late 80s-early '90s and his many articles on Trump (and Giuliani) in the Village Voice. We are all witnesses to one of the most stupid politicians elected to the most powerful position, who is in the act of Destroying Our Great Experiment (DOGE).

I can equate Trump with what I call the SIX P's

Projection: Whatever Trump accuses others of is his way of attempting to inhibit critics from making negative statements about him; it’s classic projection, well-known in psychiatric circles. Most often, Trump projects what he is all about or what he will do. (e.g., Biden is a Manchurian candidate; the election was rigged). Interpretation: Trump is the Manchurian candidate. The midterms, if held, will be rigged. Count on it.

Procrastination: Trump does not want his crimes brought to public light, so he manipulates the legal “system” with one appeal after another. This is something that the average person cannot afford to do. Moreover, his thinking is so disjointed (part of his psychotic-like mental status) that he has flights of ideas. When he does not know what to say, he confabulates with "in another two weeks I will decide." His conversations are often "word salad." Look it up.

Putinism: Trump idolizes Putin, admits to affection for Kim Jong-Un, invites dictators into the Oval Office and to his home, Viktor Orbán, and blatantly states he will be a dictator. Trump uses the same attacks on ethnic groups as did Hitler. The big lie, blaming others, creating diversions via chaotic speech or actions, are all part of his psychopathology.

Prevarication: Not only has Trump been shown to be the all-time leader in lying, but he also employs the tactic of "illusory truth" by repeating a lie, often a significant falsehood, repeatedly. The OSS (Office of Strategic Services), the first centralized intelligence agency in the US created in 1942, presented a profile of Hitler which in many ways is identical to the Trump playbook: people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it."

Psychopathy: a mental health condition characterized by persistent antisocial personality disorder (ASPD), impaired empathy and remorse, and bold, disinhibited, and egotistical traits (Wikipedia). Trump reeks of sociopathic behavior.

Paranoia: Trump has additional pathologies in his personality that involve paranoia. He sees himself as the “stable genius,” and in his perverted mind, he is the epitome of “perfection.”

I would consider Trump as a "stable" genius if you define stable literally. Trump is at home in a stable, spewing one shovel of horseshit after another. Yep, a stable genius is Donnie Trump.

Trump must be 86'd from office. And Donald knows what "86" means, having been brought up in the gutters of Queens. He's never stopped being a gutter boy.

And this is who was elected POTUS.

Tell your neighbors to get their cars out on the street en masse-- then park them, take the keys, and walk away. Bonus points for putting a club on the wheel or one of those anti-theft devices on one of the tires. There aren't enough tow trucks in any city for them to move, which will make it incredibly cumbersome for militarized forces to move around and abduct people. Those who have car alarms can turn them on as they walk away, which in turn functions like a tornado siren to tell people ICE is here (it's also disorienting for ICE). Use the chaos to help targeted people turn off their digital devices and go into hiding. Start swapping housing with people.

I turned "I’m disgusted and infuriated by ICE’s attacks on our immigrant community—especially in Los Angeles. Neighborhoods are being terrorized and families separated. How is this good for anyone? Aside from the fact that it’s cruel and un-American, it’s going to cost us. Immigrants are the backbone of our economy. Entire industries depend on them. Almost all of these people are law-abiding, work and pay taxes. Many of them have been here for decades and have kids who are citizens. It’s inhumane to deport them and the economic consequences will be dire. Congress needs to step in and make this stop." into a ResistBot letter: TEXT SIGN PQIQIK TO 50409.

I was reading today about a CA senate bill to outlaw law enforcement from wearing masks, and requiring ID on their uniform. I wonder if it will make any difference. Or be enforced. https://sd11.senate.ca.gov/news/senators-wiener-arreguin-announce-legislation-prohibit-local-state-federal-law-enforcement

Jess, I feel deeply for the people in Los Angeles. It must be horrific!

Is there a way to counter these injustices? I'm talking beyond rallying. 'We the People' should be able to defend ourselves against such injustices, no? Can courts play a role?

Hi Jess , I was wondering if you knew the Republicans have taken out the provision legislation that would have prevented courts from being held in contempt of court when they refuse to follow court orders which is great but ….

They replaced with a provision in section 70302 of the bill that will make it all but impossible for anybody except billionaires to sue the Trump administration for dictatorial behavior in federal courts . The article I read goes on but I don’t know how to send it to you . You’re so good at letting everyone know about these awful sneaky provisions . Thank you
