Hi, all, and happy Friday! Between having family in town, attending my nephew’s graduation on Wednesday, spending much time socializing, and riding the riptides of the debt ceiling drama I’m exhausted. I imagine you are, too—if not for the exact same reasons then for your own combination of factors.

"To matter, to change the world, you also need devotion and will and you need to act. Hope is only where it begins, though I’ve also seen people toil on without regard to hope, to what they believe is possible. They live on principle and they gamble, and sometimes they even win, or sometimes the goal they were aiming for is reached long after their deaths. Still, it’s action that gets you there."
Once again, Jess, your opening comments to coach/cheerlead/empower us remind me of Rebecca Solnit's writing. Hers is the quote above, from the 2013 essay you excerpted from on May 11th. Back atcha, in support of action AND rest!
So many issues...we have our specific ones. Mine is food. Chemical free food. Here is a link to Cornucopia with a letter to send to congress to support farmers transitioning to organic.
This is probably a bit off-topic, but soon we'll have a new batch of students entering their High School Senior year. They represent a wealth of possibility for the 2024 election. It seems to me that a letter in their welcome packet encouraging them to register to vote, and then vote, would be a worthy effort. I posted a draft letter, seeking comments, on my site. If anyone's interested, please check it out: https://bobmorgan.substack.com/p/junior-senior-to-a-junior-becoming?sd=pf

Thank you Eric! Her words are always helpful.
Thanks for putting in HR 3421, Jessica. It is so important.
Inspired by you, Alan!! Thank you!
There you are, at 0:59!
Haha found it!
I see you in there! LOL! You are a freakin' democracy-saving MACHINE, lady!

That's a really important one. I'll do a Resistbot letter about it on Monday! Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

This is exactly what the Civics Center does! Check out their Cap, Gown, and Ballot program! https://www.thecivicscenter.org/
Right, but my letter serves as an introduction and an invitation to check it out. Do they already have that covered?
Just FYI for those who may be interested: "Kaine said that the inclusion of the pipeline provision means the D.C. appeals court would be the main avenue through which pipeline opponents could continue their resistance — by challenging the validity of the provision rather than the pipeline’s permits." https://cardinalnews.org/2023/06/01/kaine-seeks-to-remove-mountain-valley-pipeline-provision-from-debt-limit-deal/
Also, "Thirty senators voted in support of Kaine’s amendment to remove expedited approval of the Mountain Valley Pipeline from the debt ceiling deal:
Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin) Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut)
Cory Booker (D-New Jersey) Maria Cantwell (D-Washington)
Ben Cardin (D-Maryland) Tom Carper (D-Delaware)
Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nevada) Tammy Duckworth (D-Illinois)
Kirsten Gillibrand (D-New York) Martin Heinrich (D-New Mexico)
Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) Tim Kaine (D-Virginia) Amy Klobuchar (D-Minnesota)
Mike Lee (R-Utah) Ben Ray Lujan (D-New Mexico)
Ed Markey (D-Massachusetts) Bob Menendez (D-New Jersey)
Jeff Merkley (D-Oregon) Chris Murphy (D-Connecticut)
Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) Jacky Rosen (D-Nevada)
Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) Tina Smith (D-Minnesota)
Chris Van Hollen (D-Maryland) Mark Warner (D-Virginia)
Raphael Warnock (D-Georgia) Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts)
Peter Welch (D-Vermont) Sheldon Whitehouse (D-Rhode Island)
Ron Wyden (D-Oregon)
God. Neither of our CA Senators. Awful.
But Mike Lee and Rand Paul? Crazy!
