Hi, all, and happy Monday! I hope you had a lovely weekend. And a restful one, too. Because it’s likely to be a wild week. Look, I know there’s a lot of violent rhetoric being tossed around right now—the right is deeply inflamed by Trump’s indictment and I’d be lying if I said their threats weren’t alarming. But it’s important to remember that rhetoric is one thing; action is another. The fact that many of the far-right’s leaders are in jail due to their participation in the January 6th attacks means that while threats are abundant, actual
Hey Jess, grateful for all you do. Day-to-Day. Literally!
I was just on the Lunch & Learn with Newton Action Alliance (thanks to you, I learned about the organization and remain awed by their work!) and seems Chairman Durbin's voicemail is full again. So as an alternative, folks can email him at: https://www.durbin.senate.gov/contact/email
They can make the same request / demand of him to bring the Assault Weapons Ban to a committee vote, as you so aptly guide above.
Thank you, Lynell. We can only hope that your determination in the company of others will send a clear message to Durbin. It's mysterious how he, as chair of the Judiciary, and Schumer, as Senate leader have not acted to move this vote forward.
How is it that Sam and other survivors have spent seven days—morning, noon, and night sleeping on the ground at the Capitol, and still, inaction on the part of such as these lawmakers in leadership.
We're long passed out of time. How do they not know this? Or do they care? Or what else is holding them back from moving forward? Mystery to me.
I was just watching Brian Tyler Cohen's newest "Short" on his Youtube page and thought you should know about it for your newsletter. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/pwCVHGVyA-Q
He stated the Public Comment period is now open on a new rule Biden is proposing to make power plants cut their emissions up to 90%, which would really help with climate change. He, no make that the planet, needs us to all write comments to help offset the mammoth amount of pressure the fossil fuel industry will put on the EPA to not accept this new rule. However that is a long form letter you sign onto. And Jessica always tells us to change our comments a bit so it doesn't look like just another form letter. Thus my giving the link to the actual comment page at EPA.
If you’ve been freaking out about Judge Cannon (I have been), I encourage you to read (if you haven’t already) Robert Hubbell’s newsletter Today’s Edition. roberthubbell@substack.com
Jack Smith has done/is doing his job, but it’s OUR job to re-elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Somehow his analysis and perspective helped refocus my thoughts.
Inspiring words, you write, Jessica! And just to add to the nonviolence that Dems bring to the table: I just listened to a 1-1/2 hour debate given by two (count 'em, two!) Democrats running in VA's June 20 primary for State Senator. Both candidates were respectful to the other throughout. The final question asked by the moderator was to pretend that they were engaged in debate during the general election, and to make their case without denigrating the Republican candidate. Both got gold stars!
SD-31 Russet Perry and Zach Cummings. Both want to: codify the right to an abortion, have commonsense gun safety laws, ensure "world-class public education." Cummings is a real estate man. Perry is ex-CIA and a prosecutor for Loudoun County. She also has lots of endorsements.
For those who wish to ‘Watch President Biden and the First Lady Host a Pride Celebration with Betty Who on YouTube,’ it’s pretty inspiring: https://youtu.be/02zjs2hGhYQ

More and many thanks for this and all.
Ah! Thank you! Do you need an address from his state in order to comment?
Thankfully, you don't. I'm a NY Dem and it went through.
Thank you, Jean. This is great, especially since I couldn't find Durbin's contact earlier when I tried.

Yes I'm aware of that. I have a different public comment coming in today's newsletter but I'll work that one in eventually. Thanks!
Thanks for the heads up, Cathleen!

That was excellent. Jay Kuo had a great piece about it this morning as well.
Durbin's voicemail was full so I sent an email. https://www.durbin.senate.gov/contact/email
Yes many are doing the same. Thanks!

Which two candidates was it? I'd love to know. I know there are some very heated primaries happening right now.
