I found myself irritated with the media's breathless, wall-to-wall coverage of Hunter Biden's conviction, and the seeming attempts to demonstrate fair-and-balanced reporting by equating Hunter's conviction with Trump's. Then I thought: This is an opportunity for all of us to use the Hunter case as proof that our Justice system truly is "blind" and just. While Trump's minions whine about Biden's Justice Department targeting political rivals, we can all pull the rug out from under these crybabies and loudly refute this maga talking point.

Exactly. I think it actually really helps us. It's REALLY hard for MAGAs to pretend the system is rigged when Biden's beloved son is being charged under it.

I can't help but think that Hunter is paying a much higher price because he's President Biden's son. Anybody else would have gotten a slap on the wrist. That being said, Hunter badly misplayed his hand, and will suffer the consequences. His father may actually benefit, since his sincere comments about love for his son and respect for the rule of law are a stark contrast against those of Felonious Trump.

And our president has pledged that he will not pardon his son.

Here is a cartoon from artist Nick Anderson about exactly that. I wish it could show up here!

A madman is decimating our democracy and a reader is worried about a meme?

We really are living in the upside down...

Thanks for all you do, Jess.

I'm somewhat surprised that there has been very limited media coverage of the idea that crime is down because their is such high employment. It seems obvious to me that with the rate of folks working f/t being so high, there is going to be less time and need for criminal mischief, not to mention not wanting to get fired.

Yeah good point.

Highlighting that would require the media to acknowledge that employment is high and discontent is low. What would they have to talk about then?

Calls made, messages sent. Thank you, Jess! Having concrete actions to take is great.

Also, I found these resources from Senator Bob Casey and his staff - I'll be citing them the next time certain relatives once again blame Biden for inflation https://www.casey.senate.gov/greedflation

Hi Jess,

Mea culpa, my...eye! You're on the right side of things most of the time, while the rest of us are like broken clocks - only right twice a day! Stay the course, and save democracy!

Would you please devote a newsletter to the Equal Rights Amendment? I know that LGBTQI+ Americans routinely face discrimination and abuse. But, women do too. We must ask our representatives in Congress to sign the discharge petition that moves House Joint Resolution #25 onto the floor for a vote. That resolution removes the time limit for ratification of the ERA.

Dear Jess, it breaks my heart to see you apologize for what was clearly a made-up meme that anyone who reads your substack would know. At the same time, I have found myself on occasion asking people to think about what kind of energy they're putting out in the world, e.g. someone was promoting lawn signs that said, "Donald Trump is a Sick F**k, Joe Biden 2024." I asked her to consider what undecideds might think if they were looking for someone not as gross as Trump and thought Joe Biden approved that lawn sign.

I don't think your meme comes anywhere close to that. Just saying..... love,

I am sorry, but I just couldn’t sign on to your Resistbot post Pass the Equality Act when women still haven’t seen the Equal Rights Amendment passed. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could get everyone explicitly included. I have nothing against the Equality Act or those it protects, but it is not guaranteed to be permanent, so when the winds change we could be left empty handed, AGAIN. At best, women are worth 80 cents on the dollar and in most of the country can no longer make their own family planning decisions. Let’s pass an Equal Rights Amendment to the

US Constitution and make sure that, going forward, all rights and protections accrue to everyone regardless of their particulars.

Not US and THEM, but WE. When you divide US into special groups, someone will be left out. Let’s stop that!

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the work you are doing.

America owes you a debt of gratitude. I wish I still had your energy.

The comments of whoever took exception with your use of a meme seem misguided & misinformed … “IMHO”. Michelle Obama’s famous words are admirable. But, they are outdated. She first uttered those words in 2016; years before Jan 6. Today Democracy itself is under threat. I have no patience for Pollyanna nonsense while the nation burns. The Obama’s had 8 years on that high road, and yet, here we are. I haven’t missed any opportunity to vote since 1972; I’ve phone banked; I’ve canvassed; I’ve donated; I’m damn-sure not put off by Social Media memes. Tots & Pears to those who were.

Democrats are like herding cats, independent thinkers, while Republicans are like lemmings which will follow their leader over a cliff … but sure, let’s focus on whether or not a meme was P.C.

Jessie, more effective for you to be brief, rather than use a whole sentence saying you are going to be brief. We appreciate your being brief. No apology needed. We love you and your work and your brevity. As a writer, i assure you that "tell" is a habit that breaks, but hard. Love, Doc

Point being that she does this often and you and I know it's ok for her to save her precious time and energy and it is ok to do so. Writer's critique, not disapproving criticizing. Maybe some of same for sermons.
