Yay Jessica!! Love the photo with your favorite President, and also the quote from NY Lt Governor Anthony Delgado. Both are so inspiring, as is your somehow being able to put out this newsletter while traveling and attending events. AAAmmmmaaaaazzzzing!!!
If you haven’t watched the movie “Born Yesterday” with Judy Holliday and William Holden, I highly recommend it. It couldn’t be more topical, plus it’s a love letter to DC and democracy. And...as always, thank you.
You are so right to be awed by a walk around D.C. I have been fortunate to make several visits, both for personal and professional reasons. Each time I made sure to visit as many of the memorials as possible. I spent hours at the Lincoln Memorial totally in awe reading every word. The first time I went to the FDR memorial I said it should be mandatory viewing for every member of Congress the moment they're sworn in. I cried like a baby upon visiting Arlington and walked up to JFK's grave. I was fortunate to visit the Jefferson memorial with a history teacher friend who shared so much unique knowledge with me that I had not known. MLK Jr. monument left me speechless. The Viet Nam Wall, Korean War Memorial, and WW II Memorials were breathtaking and heartbreaking at the same time.
As cynical as we can get, a visit to D.C. can restore the most jaded heart, both with pride and patriotism. But, even more with a sense of gratitude the we get to live in a country where "All men are created equal," in word if not deed. D.C. reminds us of the aspiration of those words and that sentiment.
I'm glad you got to make your trip. As always, thank you for everything you do, Jessica! You are amazing!
I didn't notice any typos, even though I was a bit teary reading it. Such a wonderful shot in the arm and such a wonderful selfie. Writing another 20 postcards this week for registering to vote in California. Meanwhile, go Girl go!
So glad you are enjoying a heartfelt experience of our nation's capitol. Your reaction was mirrored in the Congressional response to the MTG show to remove the Speaker. This response is a major crack in Trump power and a symbol of a beginning of return to governance by consent of the governed, A WHOOPEE moment for our democratic republic. Love, Doc
Awesome newsletter, per usual! I'm glad you're making the most of your time in DC.
I love seeing key influencers such as you and Robert Hubbell on the "Dems Make Life Better" website. The t-shirt is great, I wear it proudly, and have shared the link with family members.
