Thanks for thinking of DA Bragg. I suggest we include his entire team in the thank-you.
This quote is from 45's Wikipedia page: "In May 2024, a jury in New York found Trump guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to a hush-money payment to pornographic film actress Stormy Daniels, making Trump the first former U.S. president to be convicted of a crime."
I understand that Britannica also updated their page, too.
Bravo, Jess! I got to be your husband yesterday. (Well, I mean the role your husband played in your story lol.) I just randomly decided to check the news while having lunch (which I never do), and that was *exactly* when the verdict was about to be announced. I went down, found my Dad in the kitchen, and made my Theater degree useful for the first time by slamming my palms on the counter and intoning "GUILTY!," to which he gasped like a lady in an old movie. My Mom (who votes but does *not* follow politics) was preparing for the county fair, so was out of the house. I made my Dad promise to let me tell her. I showed her the headline by holding up my tablet and spinning it around like a game show reveal. The poor woman, who is typically so poised but just got off crutches recently, screamed so hard in an attack of glee that she almost fell over. I even got to be the one to tell my therapist! 'Tis better to give than to receive!
Then my Dad went and bought a celebration lemon merengue pie, because "this is a great day for justice and our country." He is correct, of course, both in his opinion and the choice of pie. We are looking forward to more justice forthcoming and to casting our ballots for 4 more years of decency and progress via Joe & Jill. Huzzah!
"I’d like to express my thanks to you and your incredible team for your hard work and diligence in seeking justice in the falsification of business documents for the purpose of interfering with an election case against Donald J. Trump. From the outset, once you determined that there was evidence of crimes greater than misdemeanors that warranted pursuit, you have been determined to try the case fairly and justly. You prevailed in the face of enormous public pressure and personal threats.
"You, your team, Judge Mershan, and the jury have restored my faith and confidence in the justice system. I don’t celebrate the conviction of Donald J. Trump (well, maybe a little), but do celebrate the fact that truth and justice is still the American Way."
Pfeiffer's posts are unlocked, thank you for sharing the links.
As to messaging going forward, I believe it's imperative (and accurate) to link all Republican candidates, up and down ballot, with Trump and MAGA.
The time is over for divided government is over when GOP officeholders are actively denouncing the rule of law.
The GOP is a national security threat.
If we don't message this 24/7, we'll end up with more states criminalizing abortion, birth control pills, IVF, legalizing vigilantism against immigrants, imprisoning people for their voting records...I could go on and on.
No Republican can be trusted. It didn't have to be this way, but not one hesitated to lie for Trump, and not one will protect you from the horrors of Project 2025.
Until this is widely accepted, our freedoms will be at risk.
Thanks for the address for DA Bragg. I intend to write him a note of thanks and to call my NY State senator re plastics. Today, thanks to you I sent a complaint of MISCONDUCT to the Southern FL District Court re: Judge Cannon and earlier this week a complaint of MISCONDUCT to the clerk of the Supreme Court re: Alito with a copy to Sen. Durbin.
There is still time to write postcards with Postcards to Voters (www.postcardstovoters.org) for Michael Kripchak who is the Democratic candidate in the June 11th special election for OH-06. (This is one of the house seats current vacant due to a GOP resignation). Michael is US Air Force verteran and his platform is to protect reproductive rights, public education and worker's rights.
OH-06 is a reliably red district, but the GOP candidate is an ultra MAGA running on Guns, Oil, and Trump and he was a co-sponsor of the OH "heart-beat" bill and wants no exceptions on the OH abortion ban.
If this is a low voter turnout election as expected, motivating Democrats and independents to the polls could flip this seat. 🤞🤞
Thanks, I sent DA Bragg a “Be a Voter” postcard with the message: Dear Mr. Bragg, In behalf of our family, a huge thank you to you and your staff for upholding the law “without fear or favor.” You are heroes! And if you bump into Justice Mershan, please tell him he has fans in Portland, Oregon.
The card is decorated by our 5yo granddaughter, and after addressing it I noticed one of her figures has a butt drawn on with wavy “scent” lines. Oh well!
Hey Jess, would you be interested in including in one of your upcoming posts the Deep Canvassing Actions coming up in Philadelphia? They are being organized by Changing the Conversation Together and focus on 1-on-1 in-person conversations with non-voters who don't like Trump, and very low-propensity voters who don't like Trump, helping them realize that they want to vote this year and helping them with the practicalities as well. If you would be interested, my Substack is at https://davefleischer.Substack.com and/or you can email me at daveflei@gmail.com. Thanks for helping us get the word out and kudos to you for all that you are doing. Dave
Be careful of asserting that his appeals will most likely fail. Remember, the NY Court of Appeals (their Supreme Court) is not corrupt and politically motivated. Most legal scholars say that the particular law under which DT was convicted had never been used in this context before. There really is a chance that the conviction will be overturned. Maybe not a high chance, but a real one.
I agree. From my perspective, admittedly the cheap seats. Judge Merchan was as careful as he could be to make this trial stick. I'll be very disappointed if the Court of Appeals finds anything of significance wrong.
Would someone be able to share the NY action item with Jacob, @jacobsimonsays on Instagram? He is a NYC-based climate communicator with a dedicated following and I think if he amplified the message it would gain even more traction!!
Yes, he was. This won't be judicial error, but a question of whether the law charged applies to the facts found. I'm a former prosecutor, and this trial was brilliantly presented. The questions have to do with the legal theory. They are summarized here:
So, the appeal will have real issues, and any one of them could result in a reversal of the conviction.
There is even the possibility that somehow the question of federal pre-emption could get to the criminals in the US Supreme Court, though that is very unlikely.
My understanding is that it could go to the Appellate Division first, and then the Court of Appeals. I think the Court of Appeals can reach down and take it directly, but who knows what judges will do?
I just looked back and yes, you did have CTC deep canvassing events for June. Glad to give you July if you think that's timely or I'm glad to get back to you closer till. Many thanks! Dave
Hey Jess, I did not see those listings! If you included the deep canvasses in Philadelphia being led by Changing the Conversation Together, that's great. If it was some other deep canvassing event, I am glad to give you the details on the work we are doing in Philly. We also have regular briefings and trainings on deep canvassing so anyone curious can familiarize themselves before they sign up to join in. Please let me know if I should send you that kind of info -- and if you have already included it, I apologize for not noticing it! Again, many thanks for everything you are doing to maximize communication about actions. Dave

I just wrote a card. I addressed it to DA Bragg, but started off with "I want to thank you and your team..."
Pefect!
Amazing! And that NEVER goes away!
On my to-do list for today ! I’ll be writing a postcard.Think they may not be opening mail after reading HCR this morn. 😒
I like using postcards, Kathy. For one thing, most people can't help but read the contents even as it's on its way to the trashcan!

Nothing better than a lemon merengue pie to celebrate justice! Well done, Will's Dad!
I love this whole story! Thanks for sharing!
Excellent, Jess!
I just wrote the following letter to DA Bragg:

Absolutely.
Hi Jessica,

I had some deep canvassing events in my newsletter just a couple of days ago--was it not that?
Be careful of asserting that his appeals will most likely fail. Remember, the NY Court of Appeals (their Supreme Court) is not corrupt and politically motivated. Most legal scholars say that the particular law under which DT was convicted had never been used in this context before. There really is a chance that the conviction will be overturned. Fair point. Merchan was, however, exquisitely careful about his proceedings, no?
I agree. From my perspective, admittedly the cheap seats. Judge Merchan was as careful as he could be to make this trial stick. I'll be very disappointed if the Court of Appeals finds anything of significance wrong.

I should have clarified - I’m only suggesting someone else do so because I’m not on instagram 😅
Ah! I see!
Jess, did you see this ??🌈

Kudos to those who helped flip a seat blue and elect Donna Deegan as Mayor of the largest city in Florida ! 💙
I did! It’s going in EE
Since Trump is a resident of Florida, being a convicted Felon, he can’t vote! Yea👏👏👏👏👏👏!
He actually can. Florida allows the voter to go by the laws in the state in which he was convicted.
Yes, I found that out after I wrote the comment. Darn it!
Yes, he was. This won't be judicial error, but a question of whether the law charged applies to the facts found. I'm a former prosecutor, and this trial was brilliantly presented. The questions have to do with the legal theory. They are summarized here:

There is even the possibility that somehow the question of federal pre-emption could get to the criminals in the US Supreme Court, though that is very unlikely.
Yikes. So assuming it doesn’t go to SCOTUS, is the NY Supreme Court the one deciding? Or is it the court of appeals?
My understanding is that it could go to the Appellate Division first, and then the Court of Appeals. I think the Court of Appeals can reach down and take it directly, but who knows what judges will do?
