Hi, all. I won’t say happy Thursday—I’m not there, yet. But I am happy to see you here with me. Last night I spoke at an impromptu Momtivist meeting—its leadership thought their members might want a place to come mourn, commiserate, and strategize. They were right; almost 100 women showed up with just a few hours notice. The conversation was frank and raw—there were tears, there were curses, and there were, of course, promises.
Can anyone explain to me what the downside is of universal background checks prior to the purchase of a firearm? I can’t for the life of me come up with a downside, so I can’t figure out why Republicans refuse to vote for this.
It has nothing to do with downsides. The NRA began a policy many years ago of demanding that politicians they backed have a zero tolerance policy for gun laws. So, to get an A rating (and money galore) from the NRA you can't back any gun law, no matter how reasonable or common sense. So they will never, ever back it. That's why the only solution is to vote them out.
Those that worship at the alter of the NRA are the reason our country has the highest mass murder rate in the world; and innocent children and adults will continue to be slaughtered. There isn’t a word in the English language that describes how I’m feeling right now.
