Haters, shut UP. Go do something with your life because Jessica is doing her absolute best and is making all our lives infinitely better because of all the labor she is putting in to help save our country. No one is perfect and no one cares about your dumb criticism.
What you said. Jessica works tirelessly every day to help us know what we need to do to save our country. Anyone who has negative comments can fuck all the way off.
Oh Jess I’m so sorry that you have been castigated for attempting to be even handed in our current lunatic environment! You deserve so much better as you work your fingers to the bone doing incredibly broad research that enlightens and educates your thousands of readers. Take some time for self care this weekend, go for a hike, visit your favorite restaurant, spend an hour in your favorite bookstore just browsing… Whatever you decide don’t let anyone get you down, your incredible work is respected and valued all across the country! 👏🏻 ⭐️ 🇺🇸 ❤️
I’d like to add though, that Jessica’s activism and resilience is respected and valued across an even wider audience than just the U.S. A close friend in the U.S. put me onto her work and now here in South Australia I’m buoyed by Jessica’s newsletters, which in turn I share with American relatives and friends.
As a retiree with limited funds, (which are even less after “his” recent tariff mess!), I can’t donate financially, but in spirit, along with other sane Aussies, I certainly DO support you all. A big part of why we have a better government here for the next three years is because “his” failings have been highlighted by people like Jessica.
Australians saw and heard what was happening in the U.S. and, like Canada and just recently, Romania, decided it definitely wasn’t for us. Mind you, many of us had decided that long ago, but knowing what’s happening meant we were fully informed.
Heartfelt wishes to you all, to keep on keeping on.
Heather, thanks for broadening my awareness of Jess’s impact in Australia. Our daughter made great friends with a pair of sisters when she attended UQ for a semester in 2007 and again in 2013 for a Masters, also at UQ. I’m especially glad to know it having had the sister's parents here during your recent elections. Our friends were quite pleased with the results and likened them as you said, to those in Canada & Romania. I appreciate your support and would like to recommend a Pro Democracy org that I sit on the Board of. Take a peak at www.BigTentUSA.org - best to you and yours.
PS In my public comment about COVId vaccine restrictions, I used your words but added this at the beginning: My husband and I are both vulnerable to infections, both because of our age and underlying conditions. The more people who are vaccinated, the safer we are going out into the world.
Jessica, yours is the substack that I read every time. For me, it’s your positive and action-oriented approach that are invaluable. I don’t have to agree with everything, but you offer me a way to do something affirmative. Thank you!
Thank you thank you thank you!! For focusing us and continuing to validate the fears and anxiety while also forcing action to resolve those feelings. All of us together will win this
just called my Senators in so-gerrymandered-we're-red-Ohio! called my Representative too and the poor staffer on the phone with me sounded as exasperated with Rep. Dave Joyce as I did for voting yes on this horrible bill. reminder to be kind to staffers but firm! they're reading a script as well to respond to you for the most part.
no violence is ever good violence, and no killing is ever good killing. feeling horrible about the killing of two Israeli staffers AND feeling horrible about the tens of thousands of lives lost to the ongoing genocide of Palestinians is completely valid, we can and should feel multitudes of emotion right now as it's rough enough out there as it is! lastly, free Palestine, Sudan, and Congo❤️; take care of yourselves everyone !
Jessica --thank you so much for your time and effort to keep us all informed on how to resist this abominable administration. You are amazing, and deeply appreciated!
I was told by someone in Rob Bresnahan's office that the bill does not touch Medicaid, nor Medicare, nor SNAP and it is helping with no tax on tips, work exemptions for Medicaid recipients and all they did was quote all the good news....I get so tongue tied and upset I can barely speak, I find I don't have enough facts to talk back. I would much rather call at night when I can just leave a message. Thank you Jessica for the help..... I am trying to keep on. I know we are in a very dark period.
Tell them you’ve had it with the lies, that you KNOW the truth, and that NO ONE will be able to convince people who are losing their healthcare, food, and heating assistance etc., etc., that they aren’t. The truth will be revealed and these cruel goons will be revealed for who they are.
Remember when Obama nominated Merrick Garland to the SCOTUS and Mitch McConnell prevented confirmation by telling lies? I called McConnell's office armed with facts to counter McConnell's lies and had a lengthy conversation with the young staffer I spoke to. Who knows if I had an impact, but maybe I gave the young man something to think about.
That's truly shocking. I would just tell the staffer "You're lying to constituents. That's shameful. And if you believe those lies you should go read the bill, or simply the multitude of detailed articles out there talking about the 13M people who will lose their healthcare over the next ten years because of this bill, and the 4 million children who will lose SNAP, and the millions of Pell grant recipients who will no longer be able to be educated, and so on. You can read talking points to me all you want--it doesn't change the truth. Numbers don't lie. This bill steals from the poor to give to the rich. And that's reprehensible. Thanks."
I’m so sad to hear you’ve been getting nasty messages. You’re such a valuable resource for us. You do the hard work with an open heart. I’m grateful for all you do. I’m sure there are many others who feel the same.
Thank you for all you do to keep us informed and involved! I was relieved to see Amy Coney Barrett recuse herself from the Oklahoma Catholic School debate . She did what all the judges should do when faced with a conflict of interest. I wish she had gotten more press coverage. I guess nothing will ever shame Alito and Thomas into acting morally.
It is absolutely unconscionable that we are paying Congressional reps salaries from our tax-payers monies to harm us irreparably. No one voted for any of this. I would like my hard earned $$ not to go toward paying the salaries of these ghouls and jackals. Donald Trump lied-of course he did-when he said he would not cut Medicaid and also Medicare. Voting Americans are paying close attention to those hanging onto Trump's coattails and will not support these people. We still must call and write every day. I am thankful for Jessica for giving us info and scripts to use when talking to these scoundrels if they are R.Unfortunately both of my Senators are Rs as is my House rep but that does not stop me from calling.
As a American Jew and a Zionist born in the shadow of the Holocaust, I have publicly opposed successive and increasingly extremist Netanyahu regimes. The appropriation of Zionism by Jewish and Christian extremists, is a tragedy. While ignoring their plight, the Netanyahu regime has used those taken hostage by Hamas, as a justification for slaughtering Palestinians. Now the Netanyahu and Trump regimes are exploiting the assassination of these two young Israeli embassy aides, as another excuse to suppress the rights of those who oppose Israeli and American policy. I am witnessing my people commit genocide with the support of my country. Not least through the specious rhetoric which equates critique of Israeli policy with antisemitism. Not doubt there is antisemitism on the Left. But there is every indication that this killing was motivated by politics, not religion.
AND regarding my anti-zionist stance--I believed in zionism for decades, but the last decade or so, I became increasingly aware of the actions, and (evolving, I believe) the violence and hostility toward all her neighbors in the Middle East. Bibi was elected, true (for two different administrations) so enough Israelies voted FOR his aggressive, expansionist practices. But I want to believe that others there see clearly what has happened to what WAS a model of democracy and the rule of law, and are as ashamed and regretful as so many of us HERE are.
Yes. Netanyahu was implicated in the assassination of Rabin. The Kahanist groups responsible were declared terrorist organizations by Israel; their political parties were considered pariahs. Now they are in the Cabinet. And before Oct 7 Netanyahu was supporting Hamas because they also preferred a fight to the death rathdr than two states. The shift Right also involved Iran's Ahmajinidad's Holocaust denial and Iran's nuclear ambitions. It's complicated. But American religious extremists with an authoritarian bent (such as associates of Leonard Leo seeking to replicate Leo's court capture in Israel) play their part.
Some of the best critique of Israel comes from Israel.

Regarding Palestinians protesters: they need to isolate their cause from Hamas. If Hamas releases the remaining hostages, Israel should stop the war with neighboring Arab countries helping Gaza begin to rehabilitate. This opinion may differ from your following but I appreciate the comments you make.
Thanks, Jess. I believe it was my horrible congressman who voted no and that's because the bill isn't horrible enough. At least I don't have to call him on this one...
The Rs went with “Death Panels” when they were fighting Obamacare. “Murder Bill” is accurate, short, and to the point. Moreover, it puts Rs in the defensive to explain why it *isn’t * going to kill people with its draconian cuts.
To each their own, but I think it could be an effective slogan.

Thanks for your reply John and the link you included. Will check it out!
Glad to hear your daughter enjoyed her time here and that a continued friendship has been one of the results.
All the best.
Ditto that!!!

Judy, if you see this, do you remember what Category you chose to submit your comment?
Drug Industry? Federal Government? I'm not sure which one the vaccine would fall under.
Thank you. Lucille

I leave a LOT of messages. Partly because my 2 GOP Senators never answer the phone, but still. We're all only trying to do our best!
I hope this isn't bad form, I'm linking another writer - absolutely no shade to Jessica! He covers only the budget bill with what I thought was super relatable language. https://salaambhatti.substack.com/p/theyre-making-you-poorer

Yeah, is that MAssie?
No, Warren Davidson.
The MAGA Murder Bill (credit to Joe Trippi).
Apparently that polls very badly. See the messaging section.
Anat Shenker-Osorio was the person who came up with “MAGA Murder Bill”, and has a thread on Bluesky about the poorly done polling by Dems on the phrase. Find it here: https://bsky.app/profile/anatosaurus.bsky.social/post/3lpoygvot722u
