All gas, no brakes! 💨

For sure my NJ Senators are at the front of the hall of shame on Perdue. They’ve been doing so many good things then they go and do this 🤦🏼‍♀️. I don’t get it. I’ve already called them both twice this week about it and will now call again using your script. Thank you. Yesterday re energized me. We are many, they are few. Happy Friday to all my fellow democracy protectors!

When you call Senator Booker you might want to remind him about his recent speech where he said that this was a "a moral moment" . The next day he voted to send more bombs to Israel and now his votes for Perdue. So much for moral momentso. S

disappointing.

Believe you me, I do. He’s always talking about his faith too. There’s LOTS of hypocrisy there.

Good for you for persisting with him. That has to be very frustrating. And Andy Kim? WTF?

I'm very surprised by Kim. I don't know what these normally good people were thinking.

I googled why some Dem Senators voted to confirm David Perdue. All I found so far was about Gallego:

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes asked Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) about the senator’s vote to confirm President Donald Trump’s nominee for ambassador to China.

Gallego said, “Former Senator Perdue has actual experience when it comes to dealing with China…sometimes the alternative to those people [e.g. Republicans like Perdue] could even be even worse than what we’re seeing presently in front of us.”

Alternatives? You may have point but that is a pretty weak excuse and does not fly. I am disgusted with both "parties" who have partied on as usual. I say they really seem to be bought off on this one. So easy when it's about commerce only. PS. As far as I am concerned there is no money lol. There is only debt that Trump is gonna increase. It's good you asked the question though and I was glad to be able to sign the petition so thank you, Chop Wood Carry Water and LBRq

Please explain why those 16 senators voted to approve the ambassador to China. In all other circumstances they appear to resist Trump & his policies. What are their reasons to confirm?

I wrote a letter to Greyhound thanking them and advised them that I made a donation to a charity that they say on their website they endorse (Traveler's Aide) and when making that donation made a comment that it was in honor of Greyhound standing strong with our constitutional rights

Did the same except I said I'm planning a cross-country train trip this summer but now I expect one leg will be by Greyhound just to show support and appreciation.

After checking Senator Booker's website to see if there was an explanation as to why he voted the way he did, (there wasn't) I just got off the phone with his office and spoke to a real live person! I said I was deeply disappointed and urged him to have Sen, Booker explain why he voted as he did.

(and Amy Klobuchar!!! What the heck?)

Use this spreadsheet to call/email/write any of our representatives as often as possible. Not just your own state reps, reach out to those in other states. Be as loud as you can and share this. Use your voice and make some “good trouble.”

I do wish the DNC would proof what they write -- this is exactly the opposite of what they meant. "A deeply unpopular vote against Medicaid cuts this month will cost you your seat come the midterms." A vote against Medicaid cuts is what we want!!

I sent something like this to my Senators and US Rep.:

It's really about EVERYTHING THAT IS GOING ON.

I hope to god that you and your Democratic and one or two cooperative Republican colleagues are holding secret back channel negotiations with enough Republicans to make an impeachment trial move toward removal if it comes your way. You know better than I that there are more than enough illegal acts being perpetrated by He Who Shall Not Be Named.

Ben Franklin allegedly said "A Republic, if you can keep it." We are going to lose it. Doesn't that qualify as a 'high crime and misdemanor'?

As for impacts of public protests, I really like this list. Others here may have seen it a couple weeks ago. Worth repeating, to supplement Jess's always-excellent commentary:

Public courage is contagious!

1. Days of action like these alone don’t change policy. They set in motion the activism, momentum, and public messaging that can create real change. The sheer numbers of marchers, the omnipresence of events, the images blanketing local media—these will reach elected officials, civic leaders, and fellow constituents.

2. Creating real pressure on decision-makers. More Republicans are voicing concerns about Trump’s economic plans. There’s more in-fighting in the Trump team. And Democrats are more emboldened because constituent action puts wind in their sails. And your representatives pay close attention to the events in their districts.

3. Bringing new people to the movement: Many first-time protesters joined the marches, many constituents who had felt alone now feel more confident, and many who hadn't previously spoken up are finding their way to new organizations and actions.

4. Giving visible, public signs of hope. Authoritarianism relies on isolation and powerlessness to take hold. Actions like Saturday show all of us that even in dark times, we are not alone and there are millions who share our vision, have our backs, and march at our sides.

5. Influencing the media narrative. As we head toward the end of Trump’s first 100-day “honeymoon period,” media outlets and journalists are seeing the real, devastating impact he’s having and the unpopularity of his positions—and these actions help them tell that story, in contrast to the false claims of inevitable mandates the administration pushes out.

This isn’t the end. Not by a long shot. Together, we’ve revealed a broad-based movement in every state, congressional district, county, and ZIP code—people ready to show up, to refuse to comply in advance, to speak up, to break the silence, to form community, to march in solidarity, and to work for a country that works for all of us.

Like so many readers here, I called Booker's office to let him know how upset I am about this vote for Perdue. WHAT DOESN'T HE GET ABOUT NOT ALLOWING THIS ADMINISTRATION ANY WIGGLE ROOM? I am not from NJ, I am from MA and I have thanked my senators for holding firm.

Can anyone provide an answer on the thought process of these 13 (I don't count Fetterman as a democrat anymore) on their votes? The NH senators are both retiring as their terms expire. So what is the strategy about any of this?

So grateful to CWCW for inspiring me to go back to using Resistbot. And while I do appreciate the scripts provided in each issue, I am totally nerding out about the Coauthor function, where you can drop ANY news story into your texts and it will help you write your own letter about it. I just tried this here with an issue I have not been seeing getting much coverage: the firing of infertility researchers at the CDC. It was so fun (well, as fun as complaining about shortsighted misogynistic governmental BS can be) and so empowering.
