Heather Cox Richardson recorded a youtube video last night about the April 20th rumor that she says is false. She examines how and why it may have developed but puts a definite damper on believing it. A relief!

Good for her. Unbelievable how that spread. We really need to be vigilant about spreading stuff like that.

As a lifelong National League baseball fan, I took your suggestion to write to the LA Dodgers:

To the LA Dodgers Organization, including all staff, coaches and players

It is absolutely reprehensible that any of you went to the White House this year. A time -honored tradition was trampled by your visit to an openly vicious fascist person occupying the White House who disdains our Constitution, if he even thinks about it. A fascist who oversees people being kidnapped off of our streets and sent, often nameless to concentration camps.

My father was a lifelong Dodgers fan who fought in WWII, and I have no doubt he would be horrified and ashamed to have ever been associated with your organization.

Disgustedly,

Amy Nadel

I phoned 11 members of Congress. I told them:

1. Trump needs to be removed immediately from office. What he & is team is doing is unconstitutional, lawless & corrupt.

2. Navarro, Trump’s pro tariff economic advisor is a crackpot. He uses a fictional character, “RON VARA” as HIS “expert economist.”. Ron Vara is an anagram - he doesn’t exist!

3. Trump’s Wharton professor said Trump was “dumbest” student he ever had. Trump has demonstrated he was a bad businessman with 6 bankruptcies, 2 failed casinos, and 26 failed businesses. WHY would we trust him on this? It is economic & political suicide.

4. We are NOT in a war. Yet he is sending INNOCENT people to the harshest prison in the world without “due process.” (60 Minutes said 75% committed no crime & 22% committed non violent crimes like trespassing. theft).

5. We are not in an “emergency” yet he bypasses Congress and place tariffs on country in the world with a formula that doesn’t make sense (Chatgpt?).

6. The bill Republicans want to pass would RAISE the deficit 5 trillion dollars.

Instead, we need to TAX the wealthy & corporations and UNCAP the amount to put into Social Security.

7. We should not pass the SAVE Act. It supports voter suppression. Vote NO.

If we don’t do these things, the tailspin we are currently experiencing will continue until we find ourselves in another depression, isolated from the world, with no allies to protect us, vulnerable to an attack, i.e., WWIII.

WOW! The Joker jumped out of the box early this afternoon to pause all reciprocal tariffs above 10% for 90 days. Get the joke?

Anyone who waisted a lot time and lost a lot of money in the past two weeks...the jokes on you compliments of POTUS.

We may have had cruel and manaical presidents in our history...but never such a total idiot.

He blinked. Oh, and he’s weak. Because on April 4, he said he would not change them, because he’s so strong…. If we ever recover in our 401k from this disaster, we’re putting those dollars somewhere safe. Enough. We are older and can’t afford to ride a market so volatile because of this charlatan.

When he loses power, I hope there is a serious investigation into who has profited from this volatility. My instinct is that Trump, who is at heart a conman and showman, does not care one bit about trade deficits. He just knows he can easily make stocks fall, have friends buy a bunch, then make them rise. Instant millions (billions?).

I too wrote to the Dodgers, I call my (Blue) reps most days , and I march. And I am beyond frustrated. Let’s go French! General national strike!! NO PAYING TAXES! ( if billionaires don’t why should we?). Something that cannot be ignored or put on the back pages. Something that has an immediate, significant impact. The system is broken. Trying to use it to correct itself is not effective. Fight fire with fire. No more business as usual by those of us who make the wheels turn every day.

I posted this on Facebook on April 6. I think it’s some thing to keep in mind as we move towards April 19. We will keep the energy and the peace.

There may be more reports coming later, but thus far, I have only heard of one incident of violence, and it was resolved quickly, and without major harm . Early in Trump, 1.0 there was a single protest in Charlottesville and somebody died, along With 49 others injured. There were maybe a couple of thousand people in Charlottesville. There were 1 million people out yesterday at the hands off! Protests.

Love is stronger than hate, and it will always be so.

Does anyone have any accurate numbers on incidents of violence on April 5. I think there was just the one in Lafayette, Indiana? If there were any more than that, it would be very few. I just would like to be accurate in my numbers both ways when I repost.

Christine, there were more than 5 million people out at the various HandsOff rallies. Maybe edit your post if you are able. The bigger number obviously carries more weight. (And I don’t the 5m was calculated until Monday so nobody really knew last Sunday that I read anyway.) just a thought.

You’re absolutely right. I posted that the day after and so the estimate was about 1 million people. I will repost about April 19 with details and the new number. Thanks.

Trump’s tariff gaslighting has a name: It’s DARVO

That's terrific! DARVO! Who knew?

Expand full comment
Jennifer Freyd's avatar

I forgot to say that perhaps our most important research finding is that the manipulative impact of DARVO can be reduced through education. So if people can learn about this pattern and name it, it will be less effective when Trump uses it. More about our research and even a hysterical South Park clip about DARVO during Trump 1.0 is here: https://www.jjfreyd.com/darvo

I was once married to a master of DARVO. So glad to finally have a name for it. And now that I do, I see that it is rampant. Thank you. Clarity in these times is so critical.

Jessica, is there a way we can collectively thank Jamie Raskin and Adam Schiff for leading the way with the shadow hearings? They deserve our thanks, but I’m new to this and cannot figure out how to contact them since I’m not their constituent, but greatly would like them to know how thankful we are that they are being courageous and brave.

Jess Craven's avatar

Absolutely! Look up their official webistes and then their office phone numbers. Then call! It's OK to call if you're not a constituent if it's to say thanks.

Highly recommend the new book, Careless People by Sarah Wynne-Williams, for an inside look at how Facebook perpetuates and ultimately profits off of fear mongering posts full of misinformation. It's a maddening but very compelling read, especially relevant as we enter the age of the "bro-ligarcy".
