Thanks so much for getting these out, day after day after day. We know you must be exhausted but we are all so grateful for you.

That's very sweet. I am not so much exhausted as pressed for time for all the things I want to do. I wish I had two of myself. Maybe three. (:

You are doing great for us!

Thanks, Jess. About he who shall go unnamed ‘violating his gag order in the NY election interference case,’ I imagine I’m high on the list of ‘those who argue that his penalty should have been more swift or severe.’ On reading about it earlier, can’t say my perspective was near as insightful (and gracious) as yours. Ah me.

And as ever, ‘you’re truly awesome … because of your tireless efforts’ to support us, and ‘save democracy!’

Jessica, I used ResistBot to send a letter to my Republican Congressman (Morgan Griffith) about food label expiration dates, and I got a phone call from one of his office staff! I was able to give feedback and add a request for a "yes" vote for Ukraine aid (so glad that passed and hoping it's not too late). Anyway, great tool that's easy to use. Thank you so much for all you do!

Thanks for everything you do! A bit off today's topics I wanted to share something our group, the Downtown Nasty Women, has been working on this week. We created an Resisbot/call urging Congress to finish the job on closing gun purchase loopholes by enacting Universal Background Checks legislation and fund the ATF to implement the new rules. Would you mind amplifying our message? Thank you so much for considering it, and let me know if you need any more information or resources to help spread the word. The action is below:

The Biden-Harris administration has done everything it can to enact universal background checks (see recent DOJ rules change) and now it’s time for Congress to complete the job. Congress must enact universal background checks and increase funding for the ATF so the agency can continue its life-saving work to stop the flow of illegal firearms into our communities (the President requested $2 billion for ATF as part of his FY 25 budget request). Use Resistbot and text SIGN POFHDR to 50409.

If calling is easier, find your MOC at https://www.congress.gov/members/find-your-member.

Sure can you give me the link to the letter so I can read it first? I'm seeing some weird formatting stuff in the text version--easier to read in original form off the website.

Thank you! Here is the link https://resist.bot/petitions/POFHDR.

Do you, or any fellow readers, have a link to a concise but non-gif version of the horrible goals of Project 2025? Like an elevator pitch,

Thank you so much for everything you're doing

I'm looking for something really short, like an 'elevator-pitch'. A way to maybe get a point or two across to people who are advocating third-party, or not voting at all.

Expand full comment

Yeah, I've been looking for that, too. If I find it you'll be the first to know. And if you put one together please let me know, too.

I don't know how possible it is to do an elevator pitch on such a complex subject. I"m still trying to figure that out as well. I found this from Ms, which I will admit I didn't even know was still a thing! It's written by Carrie N. Baker, J.D., Ph.D., the Sylvia Dlugasch Bauman professor of American Studies and the chair of the Program for the Study of Women and Gender at Smith College. So I lifted some phrases from her opening paragraph.

Discussions with others may need to start with a question:

Have you ever heard about Project 2025 or the Heritage Foundation?

The wealthy, right-wing Heritage Foundation and 90 other conservative organizations have put together a plan called 2025 Presidential Transition Project, or Project 2025 for short. It's nearly 1000 pages and paves the way for the next Republican president to use the executive branch of the federal government to attack the rights of women, LGBTQ people and the BIPOC (I had to look this up: Black, Indigenous, People of Color)community.Their plan is to eliminate the agencies and offices responsible for enforcing civil rights laws and place trained right-wing ideologues in staff positions throughout the federal government.

Then a list of specifics, perhaps from the article Kathy posted below on how to talk with your friends about Project 2025.

Blessings,

I like the lists of those not joining the assault weapons ban legislation. BUT, is it more important to have complete Senate support, or to have Jon Tester in the Senate? He cannot come out against guns in Montana. Just like, never.
