Judd Legum wrote in his substack today about the horrific bombing, famine and deaths in Gaza while the U.S. continues sending money and materiel to Israel; https://popular.info/p/a-humanitarian-catastrophe r=2gp6p&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
I have written to my 2 senators to join Sen. Van Hollen's group organized to withhold offensive weapons until Israel stops restricting aid. [from a comment on Judd's substack today]. I also sent link to substack to the President Biden at the White House.
As an American Jew long opposed to Israel's policy of allowing settlements to encroach on Gaza territory, my heart hurts for all Gazans suffering while we send bombs and money to Israel.
I am with you in this, Lauren. Thank you for your passionate comments and for sharing the link to Judd Legum's substack of today. I've been writing letters over the last few days, though only in my mind. And heart. It's past due time to write and send off my letters.
So, my thanks to you. And as ever, I'm grateful to Jessica for calling us to act, and for creating a safe space in which to express ourselves, and, be inspired.
If dispirited or overwhelmed, absolutely follow Jessica's prescriptions ... and another idea is that in New York, go to "Suffs", a fabulous musical arriving on Broadway. It's about Suffragist history, powerfully calling for women (and everyone) to vote now and make a difference. They will fill all the 1000 seats every day for a long time (Hillary Clinton is one of the producers). Another addition to the tsunami of energy on Women's Rights, really uplifting.
100% agree about Suffs. I saw it at The Public Theater two years ago and loved it. I'm going tonight to a benefit performance for the DNC hosted by Hillary Clinton and Lin-Manuel Miranda. It's another dreary, rainy day in NYC but Suffs is a good antidote to feeling dispirited. It's also a powerful reminder that change can take years or even decades.
I don't know if there are plans to bring it to LA. This was their 8th performance on Broadway. I was applauding and wiping away tears. It resonated when I saw it at The Public two years ago and even more and in different ways this time. It is about the power of activism and organizing, and a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who came before us to secure our right to vote, a right that is still being suppressed and challenged today.
Thanks for the script for calling about the affordable connectivity act! My bill, due April 17, just more than doubled because the act was not renewed. What a kick in the head to lower income folks and especially seniors who are still working - for low wages - at home via the Internet! Representatives and Senators should care about this. Thanks again! ☎️
I love this line: "So let’s take a break from doom scrolling, regather our determination, and remind ourselves that FEAR is 'False Evidence Appearing Real.'" And then Jess gives us our call to action, because Action is the antidote to anxiety.
I also loved the extra credit reading about the Truth Sandwich. We should all be on the side of truth.
Thank you Jessica and this wonderful community. This is where I get my strength and today has been a tough one. The situation in Gaza is breaking my heart and the deaths of the World Central Kitchen workers is an additional painful ache. Together we will overcome as long as we continue to band together and keep our eyes on what matters.
For people asking about actions regarding Hamas/Gaza/Israel war, Jess writes a separate newsletter called Chop Wood, Carry the World. She issued one of these newsletters today which includes a strong message to send to (or call) your senators, representatives and the White House. She also links to a petition. Hope this helps.
Hope President Biden is angling to have Netanyahu end up in an Israeli prison.
Have been proposing instead of bombing, flooding the 500 miles of very expensive tunnels under Gaza. Can the tunnels be repurposed???? in a peaceful Gaza???
I don't know that Israel knows how to access them, as I'm sure they would do that if they could. Although they also have to be careful, as hostages could well be being kept in them.
We have to ask ourselves why the UN doesn't seem to have the ability to enforce their international laws. What good are unenforceable laws? They are probably worse than no laws at all. It proves that there is corruption somewhere in the system and in this case, since the Israeli-Gaza war is on the world stage, there is immense amount of it.
Calling Congresscritters is all well and good - but World Central Kitchen volunteers were just murdered with US weapons.
Why is the action of the day not calling, emailing, writing, and protesting to push Biden to force a cease fire & stop funding or supporting Israel?
Reality is Biden cannot pick up enough Haley voters to replace the people from his own party he has and continues to lose.
For those of us burying our dead, it’s not a choice between bad (tfg) and harm reduction (the current guy). Being harangued by people terrified of tfg because they feel safe from the current one, all I feel is despair and disconnection.
I need to see democrats demanding Biden do better. There is time, before November, to attempt to de-engage at least some of the folks he has lost. But only if he stops the genocide.
Yes!! We need to write to the White House and let them know how we feel. What happened to the WCK volunteers is terrible! The US should withhold funds to Israel and force them and Netanyahu change course. Biden needs to do better !
Did you not read my intro? I said I have a separate newsletter for this and that I would be sending out a call script and a Resistbot letter today, which I did.

Did you sign up for my other newsletter? I just did a Resistbot letter about this.

Any chance they'll come to L.A. soon?
Whoa! Didn't know about this! Sounds amazing!

I need FEAR = False Evidence Appearing Real on a t-shirt! Spot on 😊
Good one, right? Not original to me, of course.

Oh no! I'm so sorry! God, I hope they find that funding!

Jessica Craven, you are amazing.
Aw, thanks, Fran-Michelle.

Any time!

Yeah. It's extremely discouraging.
Sorry, Guess I didn't fully read. Just signed and sent letter. Thanks
Sure thing!
