Welcome back!

I fear that people are underestimating the import of the Florida Supreme court decision. The court specifically decimated the penumbra of privacy rights protecting a wide range of civil rights.

In this case, abortion was the target, but gay marriage, contraception, IVF, surrogacy, and many more rights are bolstered by privacy protections.

I fear this attack on privacy rights will spread like wildfire in GOP-led states, and be used by SCOTUS post-2024 to create permanent classes of 2nd class citizens.

The movement to reform SCOTUS is beyond crucial.

People are not sufficiently alarmed.

Oh, I think we're very alarmed. And I think that many, myself included, are extremely clear that SCOTUS reform is critical if we're to save our country. But we can't achieve that without winning in November, so I'm taking a "first things first" approach here.

I agree with your prioritization, though I disagree that people are sufficiently alarmed.

I wanted to provide the broader context...it's not sufficient to win in 2024, SCOTUS must be reformed. This must become a mantra for the pro-democracy movement.

I agree wholeheartedly.

You visited some favorite places. So glad you had some recreation; could not call it rest. You and my friend Peter nudge me to visit a Josh Stein for Governor meet and greet tomorrow, hopefully outdoors. And I have spent much of the day chasing supporters of the Medical Care Restoration Act MCRA, remember chapter 2 of "The Price Of Eggs Is Down" amazon kindle or paperback for the text. ALL - to Scientific American, April page 76 for Why Some People Choose Not To Know. U will understand Trumpers more accurately. Hope my letter is in May for how this phenomenon affected the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Will remind you of Covid.

Jessica, might take it a little easier on Cali. So far, they just blew a fuse, and that has happened to all of us. They promptly sent MAYDAY and saved lives of drivers toward the bridge. They sure did not want to hit the bridge with all that cargo. ??? though is 8 knots seems a bit fast for that situation. If over the speed limit, then all expenses go to the ship owner. ll ft. draft channel has opened for barges Tuesday.

Love, Doc

Safe travels, Jess! In the meantime, the Biden-Harris campaign has been trolling Trump and setting up ads. The judge in NYC hush money trial slapped Trump with an extended gag order after he posted pics of the judge’s daughter and harassed the prosecutor’s family. I hope and pray that Trump violates the order because it comes with a $1000 fine and 30 days in jail.

This just happened!!

Oh wow I knew the judge had extended the gag order but not that Trump would go to jail if he violated it. Wild! And FWIW, I was far from oblivious to the news when we were traveling. I just restrained myself from doing anything about it...for a change. That in and of itself was hard enough! (:

Love hearing about your well deserved break.

And -- huge thanks for posting about the Media and Democracy Project petition (which I happily signed). We need to keep the pressure up big time.

With the help of my local Indivisible postcarding group, I've written a letter/petition to the NYTimes. A number of us are or will unsubscribe when we send it (not a requirement tho for signing). We're focused on the Times because they've been about the most egregious in their coverage. Even though their coverage seems to have improved just recently, we can't trust them to stay that way (if even true) without pressure. We'd love to circulate the letter more widely, but don't know how to turn it into a petition such as the one from Media and Democracy Project and collect signatures. I can't attach the letter to this comment, but is there a chance I can get it to you and you might post it? And/or know how (or someone who follows you might know) how to circulate it and collect signatures? Thank you for all you do - and for any help you might be with this.

Can't you just turn it into a Change.org petition? I'd be happy to amplify it!

Thank you! We are going to try to do that and will get back to you. Appreciate your reply!

welcome home & re both side coverage I addressed this to NBC

With great privilege comes great responsibility. Do not call Trump's violent rhetoric and visual images symptoms of a divided nation. Despite being called “enemies of the people” perhaps you believe you will be spared the “bloodbath” Remember Sgt Aquilino Gonell and Paul Pelosi and have the courage to call Trump out for what he is.
