I would like to say first, thank you for all that you are working on. I am a financial planner, and I have been watching economies of our country and many others for 40 years. This is not really about tax breaks for billionaires. After his comments about Jerome Powell's tenure today, I am convinced that Trump will intentionally ruin the economy, then claim that he is the only one who can fix it, then use the excuse that midterm elections need to be postponed. He is busily working to neutralize the press, the legal community and students. I feel that we have a much shorter timeline then the 2026 mid-term elections.

Thank you

Jess, one of your recent suggested activities was filing a complaint with our AG. I was anxious about taking what seemed a big, scary step; but I did it. I registered a formal complaint with CA Attorney General Rob Bonta's office about tariffs & insider trading. Then yesterday, Newsom/Bonta/CA sued the Trump administration re illegal tariffs. While I know that my complaint was a very small step and only tangentially related to CA's lawsuit, I believe that my complaint may also have contributed to Newsom/Bonta's action. Thank you many times over for inspiring the courage to take those small steps that can make a difference.

First of all, I just want to say THANK YOU for everything that you do. You are an inspiration to so many! I have a question born out of frustration regarding the April 19th protests. I am an LA resident and cannot seem to find any scheduled events other than in Gloria Molina Park. I live in the Valley and had hoped to attend a protest nearby. This date was widely advertised, but unlike the many events for the HANDS OFF protests, there seems to be almost no information as to where people can go. Anything you can share would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you so much.

I agree Los Angeles seems to be wanting. That’s why I recommended Tesla takedowns as there are many of them.

There doesn't seem to be the energy behind the 19th that there was on the 5th. Maybe because of the holiday, maybe because May Day has so much historic importance. I'm looking for something in St. Louis, but there's not much there.

I called Michael Schill's office at NU and got voice-mail. The message was that I hope he'll stand with Harvard and go public soon.

Marna you’re not alone. On 4/5 we had around 20 or so “hands off” locations statewide (NJ) and for 4/19 I’m seeing just 5. My local Visibility Brigade has added an action on 4/19 which is good.

It is the day before a pretty major holiday so that may be dampening events…

I’ve heard that Social Security is going to stop mailing and posting updates. Instead, all general communication about changes, etc. will be on X! Obviously, a conflict of interest and not tenable for millions of seniors who want nothing to do with Musk’s hate portal. Please ask if this is true and if it is, what we can do to stop it. Thanks.

Yes I made a video about that and we will definitely be discussing it.

Tillis is one of my senators so I wrote thanking him for co-sponsoring to save USPS from privatization. I also wrote to my other senator (Ted Budd) and asked him to join Tillis in the efforts. First time I've ever sent a thank you to Tillis. Usually I'm sending things I'm angry that he has done (or mostly that he has not done).

Michigan peeps, please keep calling any/all of Gary Peters offices to tell him to vote NO (edited) on the SAVE Act. I did finally get through to the Flint office today. I told his staffer that I expected him to vote No, and if he is voting Yes, I want a response back telling me why he’s voting Yes for a Republican voter suppression bill.

Yes that’s what I told him. Obviously I need to take a few more moments to calm down again before I post here! So sorry for my mistake. Thanks very much for clarifying.

Perhaps all married women should change their legal name back to their given name at birth. Drop their married name.

That'd be my father's name...

Then change it back to your mother‘s maiden name. Of course that was probably her father‘s name. That’s a different battle, this is about voting. We’ve already been through the naming wars. And some people just make up their own name and use that. But if they’re going to change the rules so you have to have a birth certificate name, then you’re not going to get to vote if you don’t change it to that.

What do you think about calls for US businesses to boycott all exports from El Salvador, or to end their contracts with that country? I’m not sure it is legal, but if you know or can ask your experts, that would be great. Only the loss of money will make El Salvador release the 300 people incarcerated there.

I just made my first calls to my senators (Klobuchar and Smith) and representative (Morrison). For some reason it was hard for me, but now that fear is over and I feel so much better. I kept it short but spoke from the heart about the extremely distressing situation that Mr Abrego Garcia is in. Thank you for your consistent and persistent message to just DO SOMETHING. These calls were my first, but they won't be my last! And they will always end with the words of our late, great Senator Paul Wellstone. STAND UP, KEEP FIGHTING!

I called one of my senators today (Ted Budd, NC) today and spoke with a staff member there about a few issues. He listened patiently and then just said he would pass it along, but never asked for name, address, zip, etc. At the end it seemed like he was kind of just rushing me off the phone when I asked if he needed my zip code or anything.... do you know if that is normal, or is my call just not actually being recorded?

Jess Craven's avatar

Good question. No that’s no normal and he should have asked.

A question for Congressman Larson:

The house recently passed the SAVE Act with the help of four Democrats. This makes no sense at all, given that it is a huge voter suppression bill that will hurt Democrats disproportionately. And of course we’ve all been dismayed by the rogue Dems in the Senate who voted for cruel and arguably unconstitutional bills like the Laken-Riley Act, and the continuing resolution. These Democratic representatives betray their own party and do real damage to the country. What can be done in both chambers to bring more discipline in voting? The Republicans don’t have this problem; they’re very disciplined and vote as a bloc. Is this a problem in leadership? How can it be improved?
