I have a letter confirming Fetterman's opposition to the SAVE Act (and endorsement of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act) dated April 11: "I reject political stunts intended to spread lies, fear, and hate against our immigrant communities, and I do not support proposals, like the SAVE Act, that only make it harder for eligible voters to register and hold politicians accountable at the ballot box."

Just got off the phone with Angus King's (D-ME) office. No word yet on how he plans to vote on the SAVE Act. This should be an easy NO. King is no longer a reliable vote against the GOP agenda.

The DC office told me they are not allowed to say how the senator will vote. The Tucson office said that the senator is supportive of voting rights and voted no on that version of the SAVE act. All my friends have called to thank him in advance for his supposed NO vote. I will call again tomorrow to verify.

The few videos I've seen if ICE abductions has me wondering why witnesses are not protesting in real time. We all need to arm ourselves with bullhorns and called these masked kidnappers out for what they are. Well beyond the long arm of these officers, standbyers should shout:

Do they have a arret warrant?

Why they are masked?

What is the charge?

Where is the due process of law?

Tim West's avatar

People need to shout, "CALL 911!!!"

Doesn't matter. "CALL 911!!!" It draws attention. More likely that it will be filmed, etc.

I added a few sentences to my resist bot email basically what you're saying. In addition I pointed out that we're allowing people to be kidnapped off the street by anyone. There's no proof these kidnappers are working for the government. They could be kidnapping anyone for any purpose - including locking them in the basement for perversion. This needs to stop.

Because it's not normal to have someone abducted in front of you. Imagine the courage it took for the girl who kept filming while the police killed George Floyd right in front of her. That's the courage we all will need every day now. We have to mentally prepare for that.

Here is some good news to consider including in your next Sunday edition. History has been made in Durango, CO. Last week, our small college, Fort Lewis College, announced the selection of Dr. Heather Shotton as the new president of the college, after an extensive process, which included 75 candidates. Yesterday, our City Council elected the new mayor, Gilda Yazzie. Both women represent the first indigenous women in these leadership roles.

Some things not to forget:

As pointed out by @Nanjala on Bluesky, "Harvard has quietly shut down almost all Palestinian programming on campus. The directors of the Middle Eastern Studies centres were removed from their posts. The law school has cut back DEI initiatives. Claudine Gay is still fired."

Not to mention, Wesleyan, Georgetown law, and the Rutgers faculty senate all spoke out against Trump before Harvard did.

Harvard is not unilaterally good, and there are others who are also doing this. Harvard is just the one getting the most attention. :/

Thank you Jess. I love a mini check in and this one hits one of my BIGGEST frustrations: people who won’t act & just complain. I’ve heard every excuse in the book. It’s like people don’t want be inconvenienced & frankly it pisses me off. I don’t even want to engage with them anymore. If anyone has additional practical suggestions on how to deal with these people (besides my very adult approach of ignoring their existence 😂😬🤦🏼‍♀️) pls let me know. It’s eating away at my soul and there’s enough in the world already doing that.

I think what distresses me most is that between the election and the current situation so many people I know (knew) are not who I thought they were and maybe I haven’t been judgmental enough. Does that make sense? (I appreciate your POV & don’t mean for this to sound like a therapy session 🤣)

Can someone explain to me why I need to get on X to get information about my social security account? I was told by an aide to Dave Min that was announced two days ago. I have no desire to get on X for many reasons but mostly because I don't want to be exposed to Musk's propaganda. Can this decision be reversed? It's ludicrous that we have to get on social media (X)to address any issues with our social security account.

Deborah K Davis's avatar

Oh my god. I started to respond to your comment with "That doesn't make sense" before setting off to find support for my position. Imagine my total disgust to find that X will, in fact, be involved. At first blush it doesn't appear to affect direct access to our accounts at www.ssa.gov/myaccount ... but I don't trust them. It sounds like whatever is coming applies to communications that provide updates. On 04/11/25 Zoe Schiffer with WIRED (a highly reputable source) reported that "The Social Security Administration will no longer be communicating with the media and the public through press releases and "dear colleague" letters, as it shifts its public communications exclusively to X, sources tell WIRED. The news comes amid major staffing cuts at the agency." Article is entitled "The Social Security Administration Is Gutting Regional Staff and Shifting All Public Communications to X." (I'm too sloppy with cut/paste to mess with that.)

I didn't know about this at all. Thank you for commenting on it. I'll be telling everyone I know ... and advising them to get a copy of their benefits letter if they don't already have one.

Thank you, Jody. Will you please report back to us?

I called the office of Judge Paula Xinis to thank her for being a bulwark of justice against the injustice and unconstitutionality of the administration. I got voicemail. The number is 301 344 0653. I've discovered that those rallying are both relieved and grateful to hear from us. The line at Harvard is busy again. I called both offices of Susman Godfrey. The receptionists thanked me for the "support," and the one in LA told me she would tell the partners. I noted that the law firms that have caved may be in violation of federal anti-bribery laws. They will, of course, never be prosecuted by the current administration; but their clients, who now can't be fully represented because of conflict of interest (their attorneys can't do anything that will trigger Trump), may sue them in civil court--or more likely find other attorneys. So I said that I hoped their stand for the Constitution would also be rewarded with more business. Susman Godfrey in LA 310 789 3100; in Houston 713 651 9366. If calling big law is your jam, here are some numbers for others taking a stand--Perkins Coie in Seattle 206 359 8000, Keker. Van Nest & Peters in San Francisco 415 391 5400, Wilmer Hale in Boston 617 526 6000, Jenner Block in LA 213 239 6900.
