I logged in early and was able to attend the Heather Cox Richardson program and it was great. For anyone who missed it, they promised to send a link to the recording to be shared with others.
No date announced. He had trip to Vietnam planned which the pandemic canceled which I think he still hopes to do (or maybe it has happened by now). His long time editor died recently. But I think he is still just working away….
This just reminded me that I meant to watch this documentary Turn Every Page: The Adventures of Robert Caro and Robert Gottlieb. I checked availability "Watch it on Prime Video, The Criterion Channel, Fandango at Home or Apple TV on your Roku device."
What Caro wrote about his work process is stunning. Including his description of coming to the decision that he and his wife would have to move to West Texas from New York---for like what ended up being 2 years. This so they could get beyond the old myths about LBJ's early life to start to get at the very tough truths.
I just looove the audio version and hearing your voice. It allows me to multitask and I feel like you, Robert Hubbell and Heather Cox Richardson are walking the dog with me or chatting with me while I’m writing voter registration postcards!
I voted in the poll AND wanted to tell you how much we appreciate you taking the time to record in addition to all you do for democracy.
It makes the newsletter more accessible for those of us who can’t sit still 😂 or those who may be unable to read the print version ♥️
I have been really enjoying the audio version of the newsletter. Thanks for doing it 😁 for anyone who can't find it, it's right at the top, below the title but above the graphic
Yes! This issue is particularly delightful (and poignant) because it features women in honor of Women's History Month. Lots of good, short articles, artwork, and poetry. The full piece on Satish Kumar is inspiring. I adore this magazine!!!
Jessica: Robert Caro! I have 150 pages left of the biography of Robert Moses, and have discovered why Caro is considered to be in a league of his own. I can only imagine what details, thoughtfully organized and presented, in sterling prose, his multi-volume biography of Lyndon Johnson must entail. Please toss a comment in one of your posts about Volume 1 when you finish it.
Yes, The Power Broker is an amazing book that you never forget once you make it through. I listened to it on cassette tapes from the library about 20-25 years ago and it took about three months! But I'm so glad I read it and I think about it a lot, especially when in New York.
Yes. It’s the kind of book you could read parts of and then stop and take it up again. I think there is a 100 page section on mayor LaGuardia in the book, for example, that could be a stand alone. Also I watched the robert Moses documentary I mentioned above last night. Turn Every Page. I really recommend it!
I could not understand how Resistbot works more poorly if I tried. Can you either explain the Resistbot process or refer me to somewhere where I can learn how to use Resistbot effectively. Thank you in advance.
I'm truly disappointed with the numbers in your "listening poll." I hope it will not cause you to consider ending it. I know it must be a good deal of additional work for you, something you definitely do not need, but I have to believe your readers, who like me thoroughly enjoy it and find it an aide with the incredible information you provide, would miss it greatly if you stopped. Thank you for all you do! YOU are amazing!
Thank you for the info and action to take on paraquat. It's beyond belief that it's still legal to use.
I know! Why this country is so behind on this stuff is a mystery to me. Except it's not.
Wrote email to Ag Dept about paraquat and joining VP Harris' talk about AZ abortion
Just got off. Wasn't she AMAZING????
She was!! She has matured so much in her delivery. I also heard Heather speak.
I luv the audio version, so I am disappointed to see so few others listening.
Don't worry--I won't be getting rid of it. Also, it takes a good 24 hours for everyone to see the newsletter and vote. Give it time.
me too!
Me too! Love the sound & style of your voice reading your words aloud. Thank you!!
A strong “Me too!!”
OK!

I'm so glad! I missed it but I'll watch the recording. Did you see KH just now? She was amazing!
No. :-( I didn't see your newsletter in time to catch it. I will see if I can find a link on YouTube.
Where do I find an audio version of the newsletter? Is there a link in every email version? I’d love to try it. Thanks! Barbara
It's right at the top of the newsletter. There's a bar running along the top?
Done Done Done - Thank you Jess
Thanks, Alan!
The LBJ books are great. Just hanging on the edge of my seat waiting for #5.

So interesting!
When is it coming out, do you know?
I read your email every day and realized I've not taken the time to say thank you for all you do. Thank you!!!
Aw, thanks, Gayle. I so appreciate that!

My mom just read that a few months ago. Took her forever too but she loved it. Robert Moses, right?

This is great, Don. thanks!
Thank you so much!
I hope you enjoy #ResistBot as much as I have.

If you ever need a shot in the arm, get a copy of Resurgence and the Ecologist. It is both beautiful and inspiring.
