Here's the thing: President Joe Biden gave a master class on how to face down critics at the SOTU. Was it technically perfect? No. But it was emotionally, physically, energetically and content perfect. Part of the President's charm is his open humanity and accessibility. He was fired up. He demonstrated his capability and amazing capacity to govern in a hostile environment. I. WAS. SO. PROUD. Thank you, Prez Joe.
If that was the performance of a too old to govern, half senile President, we need more leaders like Biden, not fewer!! We all so, so appreciate that Joe Biden is giving 4 more years of his later life to service again. Go Joe..You rock!!
I was not nervous. He's so experienced doing this stuff that I knew he'd be okay. But my husband said he didn't want to watch bc he was anxious! (Also he knows I'll watch and tell him about it). He was great and the Repubs were idiots per usual.
Like you, I couldn't watch live. But, I've replayed! So proud of Biden, our Democratic party and our country. Yes, the last weeks have been brutal and it's been hard not to get down. After emailing a thank you and contributing to Biden/Harris, I'm totally energized and ready to work harder than ever! Onward - -happy to be part of this community and others doing the work!
Joe Biden's speech was spellbinding! And thanks for the link to the Republican rebuttal. It was truly awful! I couldn't have watched any more than that clip!
I watched it live because I was hopeful and curious … plus I almost never go back and watch a recording! So glad I did, from the minute he entered and was chatting with people I relaxed. HE knows what’s at stake!
Thank you, Jessica for admitting to sometimes not watching because of nerves when it comes to these terribly important speeches that Biden has to give. I also am too anxious to watch. BUT...I needn't have worried. He really stepped up to the plate and knocked it out of the park last night. I was truly amazed at how well he did. And so happy for him and for us, his grassroots supporters.
... and about that R rebuttal. Seriously weird sh*t, as Tom Nichols from The Atlantic said today on CNN's Jim Acosta's show. That sad woman (a sitting US Senator, FGS!!) was a bizarre mash-up of Stepford Wives and Mean Girls. I forced myself to watch the whole sorry thing (wishing it was over half-way through) so that I could make my own opinion. I agree with Tom!
Ugh. I could not have stomached watching the whole thing. Absolutely awful! But I'm glad it was her and I'm glad she was in the kitchen. It shows all of America exactly where Republicans think even the most powerful and ambitious women belong.
Oh, and the picture of Joe (my late partner called him Joey Biden and she loved Biden and Obama so much—she was a native Chicagoan) and Kamala makes me happy.
Jess, I'd like you to understand that I do not, and cannot, engage with Resistbot. I am probably the last remaining human not in possession of a cell phone! Yeah, yeah. Anyway, what I do is copy and paste the letter, then edit it, and send it to each of my reps. So, if your tabulations don't see that, understand that it IS being used, and I just might not be the only one using this backdoor approach. I LOVE your Resistbot postings, and it's very rare that I don't follow your lead, and send the messages. That said, I send wishes to you and yours for a most wonderful weekend!!
Thank you, Daniel! And yes, that's why I always put the entire text of the letter in the newsletter (except for the Sudan one today)--because I know there are some who would prefer to just copy, paste, and maybe edit it to send through their reps' links. Which is great!
Thanks, Daniel, for thinking outside the Resist-box ! It has been resisting/not responding to my requests lately (using my IPad) so your solution works.
Thank you for reminding us about the tragedy in Sudan. No winners, millions of losers. PBS News- hour last night ran a story on Sudan. (and I learned how to use ResistBot. Cool program! Fun!) The Newshour story was heartbreaking. Luckily, Biden cheered me up with his speech!

I agree exactly.
I was excited to watch it live--and it lived up to my expectations. We've seen Joe Biden in action before, and he's still got it!
He sure does!

YES!

I gave another donation this AM, too. Apparently last night they got bonkers amounts of donations.
I also emailed the White House and gave a donation. It is just such a happy moment. Especially after last week.

Truly painful. But it's making for great TikToks! https://youtu.be/eEbf-Vvv2Cs?si=wuoAtIjmLvMHhlD8
Thank you thank you thank you for sending the TikTok link
I signed up for TikTok just to watch your posts!!!
I could not have borne watching here whole rebuttal, so I’m glad you told us about the part I missed about rapists! We love you. You are the best!
I watched it live because I was hopeful and curious … plus I almost never go back and watch a recording! So glad I did, from the minute he entered and was chatting with people I relaxed. HE knows what’s at stake!
He does. Amazing.
That speech was magnificent. He truly did hit it out of the park. He's got this. We've got this.
Yes. So restorative, wasn't it?
Joe did great!! He seemed to really be enjoying himself too.
Hit on so many issues and problems we care about.
That's the thing. He is so in his element when speaking in public like that. The best!

Read this, it’s the best (and funniest) critique of the rebuttal. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/mar/08/katie-britt-sotu-reaction?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
My favorite response to last night's FABULOUS State of the Union:
Hakeem Jeffries
@RepJeffries
President Biden showed up, delivered a forceful speech and smoked the MAGA extremists.
My dude.

Wasn't it great? I got it from the @BidenHarrisHQ Threads account, which is truly fantastic.

This is a really good idea. Thanks, Daniel!
Anything I can do for a "gildedtwig"!!
Let Joe be Joe! He nailed it last night.
Indeed he did!

Yeah it's terrible. I wish more Americans would take an interest, but maybe if the MSM picks it up a bit more they will.
