I just emailed No Labels.

Dear Sir or Madam:

I’m writing as a concerned American to ask No Labels to immediately end their effort to run a Presidential candidate in Nevada, North Carolina, Florida, and other battleground states.

If your group runs a third party candidate, the election will be thrown to a Donald Trump. I don’t think I need to tell you how catastrophic this will be for our democracy and freedoms.

I’m sure you are very much aware of Project 2025. It’s horrifying what Trump and his sycophants propose for our country. The plan calls for him taking over the DOJ, replacing civilian personnel to be replaced with loyalist, ordering the military to stop protests. In addition, the gun violence epidemic will be made worse. All of our reproductive freedoms will be gone. So will LGBTQ rights. We will not be able to recognize our country anymore. It will look more like Russia or North Korea.

I think you do not want any of these things to happen.

Maybe you don’t agree with President Biden and his policies, but with him, our democracy will stay in tack and his policies will not cause irreparable harm to our country. Please consider what kind of country you want to leave for your (grand) children. Do you want them to have the freedom to make their own decisions, a life with happiness and peace, a life where they have opportunities to thrive? They will not have that with Trump (for the reasons I stated above).

You may think you can win, but third parties do not, and this time around, we will end up with a dangerous, psychotic man.

Perhaps run one of your candidates in 2028. With Biden, there will be a 2028, with Trump, there will be no more elections bc he’s promised us he will be a dictator. He did try to take over our country after he lost the 2020 election and this time he may very well succeed.

Please end this plan now, before it’s too late. Your (grand) children will thank you for it.

Sincerely yours,

Abbi Lichtenstein

Silver Spring, MD

There is nothing elitist or arrogant about calling fascists what they are.

We are not a 50-50 nation of Democrats vs. Republicans. Gallups' latest voters' self-ID poll (2-1-24) shows 30% D, 28% R, and 42% Independent. Of the I, 46% lean D and 45% lean R. So, doing the math, that gives D+I approx. 52% and R+I approx. 48%. Albeit this is way too high for R, but it's not 50-50. In addition, there is a growing pool of persuadable R's -- those who have NOT drunk the Trump Kool-Aid -- and I's, as exposed in post-voting site interviews by media and pollsters. We can and will grow this number to 55 or greater when it comes to voting in November. Let's have faith in our margin of effort, and faith in our strong President Joe Biden. We will not fail democracy.

I have also seen a lot of people online saying that they've always voted Republican but now no longer will because of various issues, mainly Ukraine. I always find them encouraging.

And the utter dysfunction junction in the House. Simply ridiculous.

Many Republicans think Dems are arrogant because Trump tells them to believe it, and before T, other GOP like Goldwater and on until now. Many Boomers have become the "Old White Men" and the women they abuse today. I am sick of it and pray it ends. We MUST keep Trump out of the White House. The MAGA mindset and abuse has GOT to end. If not, lots of women, girls, and many minorities will die, not to mention the middle school kids already working in meat packing plants. This is hell! I was physically and otherwise abused by MAGA-like parents daily for 18 years and a judge told them they could do anything they wanted to me because as a girl I was a piece of property. We CANNOT let this happen to people now. Please, everyone, do something!

We're doing all we can. And we have many months to go. Lots of things will change, lots will happen. I keep reminding myself to. breathe and stay in the day.

And we can tell other folks about all this and encourage more people to register to vote, vote, and contact senators and reps about what we want.

I’m glad that some are talking to Republicans but who ever asks them to talk to us? To understand us? Why does that question never get asked?

And I’m unmoved by the claim that the Left is arrogant or elitist. Those are often racist or anti-Semitic code words. The GOP act arrogantly, if truth be told. They assume their rightness. There is no dialogue, only talking points. So, I am glad you called Trump voters out.

Well, I suppose we are supposed to "go high," though.

Exactly! WE are. But they aren’t! And the media holds us to different standards.

Thank you so much for posting the action from Healthcare Advocacy. I was so shocked to see how greed in medical facilities results in excess deaths and Republicans want to help make that happen.

We need people in office who actually like people (like Adam Schiff, Kamala Harris and Joe Biden) and want to help - not harm.

Thanks for all thge work you put in - it gives me hope every time I email or call those in power...Alan

Would you ever consider having a volunteer assistant to help you respond to emails and things like that? I don't know how much that actually makes sense for you, but I just figured I would pitch the idea since it seems like a whole lot of work. Side note, working on rewording that extra credit email to send 👍🏻

I have thought about it a lot. I just don't know how to outsource what I do. But I'm going to need to soon or I'm going to collapse. LOL.

I absolutely agree . This is a relay , not a sprint. Joe Biden’s State of The Union speech gave us a game plan. Let’s execute it🎂❤️👍❤️🙏

I haven't told you all yet, but I'm going on vacation to Europe for ten days at the end of this month. It kills me to break away but I will be doing as you and so many others urge me to and trying to take a bit of a rest.

Thank you for having the grace to apologize for excess speech-understandable, but unfortunate and counterproductive. I have been able to get some of my Republican friends to listen, especially given Trump's own penchant for wildly excessive and unfortunate speech.

I slept on it, and yup, I'm still mad at the reader who scolded you for speaking bluntly about Republicans. I suspect this person is not someone whose human rights are on the chopping block. Republicans have nominated a RAPIST to be President of the United States and we're supposed to tiptoe around their precious feelings? What unbelievable arrogance. Go to hell!

Jessica, I love your note about Stupidity and Greed.

"Stupidity and Greed" do sometimes seem to summarize the motivations of MAGA... from our POV. And THAT'S exactly why we have to adjust OUR POV. I'm all-in for Biden. But when I listen to "Decoding Fox News" on substack https://substack.com/@decodingfoxnews I HEAR what MAGA hears and it is eye-opening: Wonderful news about Trump and HORRIBLE things about Biden. People absorb the info around them. We consume the amazing Jessica Craven, Heather Cox Richardson, Robert Hubbell. They listen to fear mongering and selective editing on Fox that make DT seem like a needed superhero.

I wear a Biden T-shirt on EVERY grocery run since Jan. 1st (in Florida). I'm happy to report I've had nothing but pleasant exchanges. The civility has renewed my faith in humanity, and yes, even in MAGA. We NEED a strategy for welcoming them into the fold. Like when a star athlete is traded to and welcomed by a rival team. They need to feel that we've always had their best interests in mind. Because, indeed the policies of the Democratic party will benefit the MAGA faithful far more than the Trump platform would. WE are about helping others, welcoming others, listening to others. It's important to wrap our messaging in empathy. This the the Democratic party, a big tent where all are welcome. That's who we are.

I emailed No Labels with that same message, too. Thanks so much for offering this important resource, Jessica. In the past few days, I've felt more and more stressed and scared due to third parties like No Labels and my exposure to articles about all the horrible things that will happen if (God forbid) TFG is re-elected. I feel like I can't take breaks from following this stuff, and I feel more hopeless than I ever did before.

In my mind I feel like we're facing something much worse than merely the end of democracy if TFG wins again ("if he wins, America will not live to see January 21, 2025", "if he wins, it will literally and figuratively mean the end of the world"). What can I possibly do? I don't want to feel like this every day with 8 months to go. There has to be something(s) all of us can do to protect our mental health during this time given the threats of TFG and the GQP.

I think it's really important we take breaks, spend time with love ones, and get off our phones! Really! Otherwise we won't make it.

You're definitely right about all that, Jessica. I just want to feel hopeful, in spite of everything, over these next few months. Thank you for all you do, and for the encouragement and support of our pro-democracy community.
