Last night, GOP Rep. Lance Gooden ripped a sign from the hand of a Democratic colleague. I checked with DC Police and Capitol Police. Both said it was a Theft.

They should file a theft police report so there is a record.

Can we print them as larger signs for a Tesla takedown this weekend?

Two Saturdays ago, the Cold Spring New York Saturday Protest organizers, (two moms), pulled 25 people onto the sidewalks of a busy intersection in town.

Last Saturday, 65 showed up and nearly every car and pick up truck honked in support. It is a great street party for Democracy, which kicks off with a boisterous call and response of the (short) Constitution’s Preamble.

We will hold this protest, (see ACLU guidelines for protest without a permit), every Saturday for the next four years. Single file, keep the crosswalks open, no megaphones. Simple. Powerful.

Now get out there.

Thank you for your work. I really think we need a type of protest ala March on Washington/womens march to bring people together. Solidifying the collective voice. How do we do that? What is the collective strategy? How do we get everyone out in the streets?

I wish I had a similar sign for protesting at our local Tesla dealership. That's fabulous!!!

Jessica, last night during the presidential speech, I wrote the following to both of our North Carolina U.S. Senators:'

Dear Senator Tillis,

I am deeply disturbed that the current president and his administration are usurping Congressional prerogatives, responsibilities and budgetary authorizations. Our Senate is, by its inaction, concurring with this. I urge you, sir, to please take frequent and firm stands against this undermining of our government and our constitution. Please aggressively assert congressional responsibilities, and prerogatives and rein in this administration.

Most sincerely concerned,

Rob David

Rob, how about calling his office on top of writing. Those staffers have to record phone calls coming into your senators and your congress people’s offices. It has a lot of impact. Thx.

Dear Jess, I attended the Red Wine and Blue zoom with Timothy Snyder last night. I was inspired by the professor's care, wisdom, and humility. And what I especially want to share with you is that when a someone asked for reliable sources of information, the comment section went wild with extraordinary Substack authors' names ... AND JESSICA CRAVEN flashed on the screen several times! No wonder there!

Stalin Epigram

Osip Mandelstam

1933

Translated by Dmitri Smirnov

We are living, but can’t feel the land where we stay,

More than ten steps away you can’t hear what we say.

But if people would talk on occasion,

They should mention the Kremlin Caucasian.

His thick fingers are bulky and fat like live-baits,

And his accurate words are as heavy as weights.

Cucaracha’s moustaches are screaming,

And his boot-tops are shining and gleaming.

But around him a crowd of thin-necked henchmen,

And he plays with the services of these half-men.

Some are whistling, some meowing, some sniffing,

He’s alone booming, poking and whiffing.

He is forging his rules and decrees like horseshoes –

Into groins, into foreheads, in eyes, and eyebrows.

I felt so helpless and hopeless after watching the obscene treatment of President Zelensky last week so I was grateful to wake up to your newsletter with the fundraising website for Ukraine. I donated and sent it to about 100 friends and colleagues. I wonder if you know how many people donated and how much money was raised in these last couple of days? Thank you.

I love your poster and want to copy it! At recent Tesla protest in Portland Oregon a participant made a cloth face mask of Musk and a cardboard chainsaw. He walked along the long row of protesters saying “ I’m going to chainsaw the education department. I’m cutting the IRS staff in half.” Etc. That gave a “real live gut wrenching feeling” of the reality of Musk’s actions bringing it in our face. Very effective.

If you are looking for a tangible way to do something for Ukraine and can spare an hour a week for a video chat with a Ukrainian wanting to improve their English language skills, please consider volunteering with ENGin. https://www.enginprogram.org/ I started in November of 2023 with one student and now have two. They both quickly became friends, and the exchange is mutually beneficial. Volunteers and students are vetted and, as a volunteer, you can specify the preferred age, gender and English proficiency level of your prospective student. ENGin provides teaching materials for volunteers to use if they wish. There is a waiting list of students seeking to join the program.
