I’m going to say this as often as possible: Jess, you are a national treasure. Reading your daily posts always gives me hope. I’m in Oregon, but still use resistbot to write to my legislators. Keep the faith. Democracy, and we, need you.

Thank you, Paula. I truly appreciate that!

She is not the only one Jess. I respond to someone's comment offering activities to get into that make a difference, and they all say you are a National Treasure. Perhaps Biden will give you that medal after the inaugeration, or at least invite you to the event.

I have a quick question, though. Perhaps I should email you. but here it is.

In the lead-up to the 2016, the Berniecrat young ones were up in arms about morally not being able to vote for Hillary, despite Bernie's exhortations to vote for her to stop the

t-Rump fascists. I emailed the San Gabrial Valley Progressives over and over about not throwing their votes away and only got "fuckoffoldman" responses.

Here we are again and I want to engage them in a serious dicussion about understanding politics and knowing that one's "Moral" vote could be a vote for the other side.

Can you help me phrase a letter to their board to engage them to be focused on the reality of our situation?

This is crucial to engage the morality based activists accross the country. They have to know that this is a process that takes time and total commitment. Now, however, we are running out of time.

This is what keeps me awake at night.

And now Marianne Williamson is pulling the same moralist crap. Geeze, I thought she was smart and thoughtful.

I agree it is not the time to give up. I am more determined than ever to make sure it is Biden who is picking the next justice, and if real Dems can dominate the Congress in both branches we might be able to impeach those justices who are compromised, and breaking the law. Impeach Alito and Thomas, and all the others who lied to get on the court. Knowing that Treacherous-Treasonous-Traitor-Trump is financially pressed, and if he takes over the Republican National Committee's funds, leaving nada for anyone else running, we might find getting a Democratic majority in both branches of the Congress easier to achieve. Here is the Treacherous-Treasonous-Traitor-Trump's Debt Tracker. https://trumpdebtcounter.com/

This morning when I looked it was $465,691,XXX.XX. Now it is $465,715,XXX.XX. The RNC is supposedly down to 8 million+ and in addition to this debt, Treacherous-Treasonous-Traitor-Trump owes his lawyers around $50 mil. I assume before it is all said and done it will be at least double that. So, he will continue to grift money from the RNC into his coffers. Not just for that, but to put money into his businesses. I am hoping that if he cannot pay up his bond next week, E. Jean Carroll gets Mar-a-Lago in payment. That would destabilize Treacherous-Treasonous-Traitor-Trump greatly. And, I'm not talking about how he is unstable on his feet, and lifted a shaky glass of water to his lips with 2 hands during a speech, and keeps slurring out nonsensical statements making him appear to suffer from Brain Aphasia, but the fact that if you have a home base that you are used to conducting your shady deals from under cover of it being a club or hotel, then you can slip all kinds of things to foreign agents. It would be a lot harder for him to do from a non-hotel residence.

Love the debt tracker!

I heard tonight that he can’t pay E Jean’s judgement!

Can't or won't is not clear to me, but I draw hope from the idea that he can't.

Ooh is that true?

Sorry to rain on the debt tracker, but the Saudi boys who gave Jared $2 billion for nothing already have the $1 billion draft ready for trump’s account! Fall back, Russian oligarchs who bailed him out decades ago!

Expand full comment

yes. However, that money is not going to the campaign. I wonder about the Saudi's though. Trump seems too stressed about the cash for it to be such an easy parlay as before. Also, while there is Russian money, and Trump does not think he will pay, he has not been giving them the kind of access that they would like for a while, and there may not be as great a return on the money. While Putin says he prefers Biden in the White House, we know he just wants to make it look like he thinks Biden is weak. Of course, having demented Treacherous-Treasonous-Traitorous-Trump with his trigger finger on the nukes, might not be what Putin wants to deal with. Neither would the Saudis. Remember they know that Treacherous-Treasonous-Traitor-Trump hates Muslims as per his stated policy. He is duplicitous, and we can all see there is no loyalty there. No honor among thieves.

We don't have the option to quit, just cause we're tired of fighting. Compare this situation to slavery, the trail of tears, the holocaust, refugees, Ukraine, Palestinians, etc. To quote MLKJr. We SHALL overcome. . . . . and remember the march!

Exactly. So many have had it so much worse.

Jessica, thanks for everything, as usual. Tonight, I attended a talk with Barb McQuade which was held at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, via YouTube. interviewing her was her friend, Joyce Vance, one of my faves, regarding her book “Attack From Within”. She spoke about the difference between disinformation and misinformation. Disinformation: Deliberate use of lies, malicious act. Misinformation: May tell lies without realizing it, word of mouth, the grapevine. She said that the government must smash Citizens United especially after this Scotus ruling today. Labor unions and corporation have no restrictions in funding tons of money into campaigns. The government should make all candidates disclose who is giving $ and how much. Plus, social media has to reduce misinformation by disclosing their algorithms purposes. What she said is that we need to know when we’re being manipulated. We have to know the truth. We do not or should not engage in snark online, even though we want to. personally, I’d like to strangle most of them but I digress…Here’s what she said about young folks…She’s very excited about them because they are educating themselves and are very engaged and motivated. I see that on X (Shitter) with Victor Shi, David Hogg, and Maxwell Frost. “Truth is our national purpose.” Let that be our mantra.

Two days ago, in Slate, legal analyst Mark Joseph Stern noted that when Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was Senate majority leader, he “realized you don’t need to win elections to enact Republican policy. You don’t need to change hearts and minds. You don’t need to push ballot initiatives or win over the views of the people. All you have to do is stack the courts. You only need 51 votes in the Senate to stack the courts with far-right partisan activists…[a]nd they will enact Republican policies under the guise of judicial review, policies that could never pass through the democratic process. And those policies will be bulletproof, because they will be called ‘law.’”

Yeah. I think we're all waking up to that fact...ugh.

Thanks again Ms. Craven for all you do. Your energy is infectious.

I want to voice my support for Adam Gray's House candidacy in CA13. I don't know Mr. Gray except by reputation. However I do know John Duarte and have for decades. As a winegrower for over 30 years I ran in the same professional circle he did. When I started development of my own vineyard in the late 90s, he was a sales person working for his family's grapevine nursery who sold me some of the planting material.

John is a decent guy and I might still invite him for a beer if we were to run into each other. That said, I would not vote for him if I lived in CA13. John ran for office on a single issue - pushing back on the EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers over fines his family was issued by for deliberately farming on a piece of land they owned despite it's designation by the Corps as a "jurisdictional wetland."

Duarte's family initiated litigation against the Corps and the EPA , which they ultimately lost, settling with EPA in 2017. There is a direct line between that failed lawsuit and the ridiculously partisan, precedent-defying, anti-environmental, and un-scientific 2023 ruling by SCOTUS (Sackett v. EPA https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/22pdf/21-454_4g15.pdf - Duarte Nursery, Inc. was one of the petitioners) that re-defined "waters of the US". As a newly-elected first term Representative, he celebrated that ruling.

Duarte doesn't seem to be MAGA, even though he repeated MAGA talking points when he voted to impeach Mayorkas. IMO his support for the extreme SCOTUS ruling, and his impeachment vote, have damaged his credibility as an environmental steward and as a strong advocate for the 66% non-white population in CA13.

In 2022 Adam Gray lost to Duarte by 564 votes - just 0.42% of the ballots cast. This indicated the hyper-local focus of the race for this House seat (Biden won 89% of the vote there in 2020). Gray in Duarte are the only candidates in tomorrow's Super Tuesday primary here, so they will face off again in November.

I live in CA4 - our long-term Representative in the House, Democrat Mike Thompson, is all but assured re-election. Adam Gray isn't a sure bet in CA13, so I know who's going to be getting a contribution from me before November.

I keep hearing great things about him. I will be sure to invest time in that race. Thanks for the extra background!

You’re not far from me! My city was originally split between Thompson and DeSaulnier years ago after having had DeSaulnier. I had Thompson for about 4 years and did a little stint with his office to Modesto talking to people about Devin Nunes. But we have DeSaulnier again and I am very happy.
