Hi, all, and happy Friday!
Robert Collier, an American self-help author born in the 19th century, once said: “Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.”
I couldn’t agree more. In fact, that’s what we’re doing here! Creating success through small efforts, taken several days of the week.
Except instead of trying to help ourselves, we’re working to save our country.
In so doing, of course, we do help ourselves. Nearly all of us have found that taking regular, bite-sized, democracy-feeding actions eases anxiety, builds self-worth, dispels feelings of impotence, increases our confidence, and swells our energy.
Activism, in other words, is much like exercise—it’s hard to get started, but once we begin reaping its rewards we want to do more. We realize that, contextualized rightly amidst our other quotidian duties, devoting a small amount of time every day to preserving our democracy actually helps us to thrive.
That is the beauty of chopping wood and carrying water for our country: it’s easy; it’s regenerative; it’s fulfilling.
And, of course, it works!
Call Your Senators (find yours here) 📲
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.
I understand that the House just voted to overturn the Biden administration’s protections for small streams, wetlands and other waterways. I am horrified by this and want the Senator to oppose overturning these protections. The argument that these regulations are environmental overreach and a burden to business are just wrong. We’ve just seen in East Palestine what happens when we deregulate industry—people get badly hurt. Americans want regulations to keep our water clean. Do not vote to overturn those protections, please.

Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
I understand that the House just voted to overturn the Biden administration’s protections for small streams, wetlands and other waterways. I am horrified by this and want to know how the Congressmember voted. [Push for an answer. Then:]
[If they opposed rolling back the protections:] Please thank them for me. We’ve just seen in East Palestine what happens when we deregulate industry—people get badly hurt. Americans want regulations to keep our water clean. I appreciate their fighting for that.
[If they supported rolling back the protections:] Please tell them I’m extremely disappointed in their vote. The argument that these regulations are environmental overreach and a burden to business are just wrong. We’ve just seen in East Palestine what happens when we deregulate industry—people get badly hurt. Americans want regulations to keep our water clean. Please ask him/her to prioritize his/her constituents’ well-being over industry demands next time. Thanks.

I’ve got a new click-to-send email for you to send to Walgreens—this one takes them to task not just for their disastrous decision on abortion pills, but for the huge amount of money they’ve donated to RAGA and forced birther politicians (H/T Judd Legum). I’ve also added their CEO to the addressees.
Please click here to have the email auto-populated in your default mail program.
If that doesn’t work, or if you prefer to send your email manually, I’ve got a document here with the email addresses and a sample message to copy and paste.
Either way, don’t forget to personalize and sign!

They don’t have a registration link but when it’s time you can hop on the Zoom here.
Spread the Word! 📣
The DNC War Room churns out multiple articles a week with info we can use to attack our opponents. While this may feel distasteful to some, we must remember that Republicans have FOX News doing just that all day, every day. Democrats don’t; they are counting on us to help. So let’s keep an eye out for pieces like the below and use the talking points where we can.
DNC War Room: Where is the Republican Plan? Here’s What We Know

Yesterday President Biden released his budget, which explicitly details his plans for strengthening Medicare, including increasing the Medicare tax rate on income above $400,000 from 3.8 percent to 5 percent and closing Medicare tax loopholes that allow the wealthy and businesses to shield portions of their income from taxes.
For the past 58 years, American workers like me have diligently paid into Medicare with the understanding that it would be there for all Americans 65 and over. Now, President Biden has a clear plan to ensure Medicare’s solvency for future generations -- and it begins by increasing taxes on the wealthy.
It’s time to increase taxes on the wealthiest Americans and ensure a strengthened Medicare system for decades to come. Please support President Biden’s budget. Thanks.
OK, you did it again! You helped save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk soon.

Hi Jessica and any followers who might know the answer - I was really interested in the DNC War Room articles linked here - but going to the DNC site, I can't find how to see all of the War Room articles. Is there an archive or a feed that i can subscribe to receive the articles? Thanks for any suggestions.
That Walgreens thing was super easy. Done! And thanks for the optimism boost.
