I find your comment as reported in the Wall Street Journal very encouraging.
“I do think a lot of our society has become…kind of like, neutered, or like, emasculated.”
It is rare to find a man as powerful, and obviously in tune with his own masculinity, who would be brave enough to offer this kind of frank self-assessment. Your diagnosis is right on. You and Jeff Bezos and many American males today have been emasculated and are afraid to stand up to the bully in the school yard, even when he poses no real threat to you. You demonstrate that everyday in your craven obeisance to Donald Trump, who fears women, hates perceived weakness (remember when he didn't want to see any injured or disabled veterans), and sees any ambiguity as a threat to his "because I said so" arrogant pseudo-masculinity.
I am so glad you see the problem. The first step to becoming a true man, a mensch, is to recognize that it is difficult. You and Mr. Bezos have abandoned your commitment to equality and diversity showing the particular emasculation s that symptom that arises when you are so afraid of losing power and control, of being questioned, especially by women and people of color that you wish to remove them from your sight.
I wish you well on your road to recovery, which may be long, but be assured it is the way of the future. Real men, as you undoubtedly know, do not fear women or DEI initiatives; and I look forward to seeing you restore your efforts for equality. You probably never heard of me, but I served one of the four remaining all-male colleges in the U.S. as president for seven years and I would welcome the opportunity to work with you as a consultant on your journey. Like anyone who tries to live up to an honorable masculinity, as the gentlemen of Wabash Colleges pledge to do, you are aware that a vision of honorable masculine behavior is not easily achieved or enacted. We are all imperfect, but we are working together. Since I am retired, I will have to charge you a modest consulting fee. Let's just say you offer ten hundred men in your company and your circles paid subscriptions to Robert Hubbell's, Jennifer Rubin's, Simon Rosenberg's, Jess Craven's, and Jess Piper's Substacks. With that I would feel adequately compensated.
Reading these thinkers and their comment sections should also provide some grist for your discussions at your next MOPES (Men-On-Pause Educational Society) meeting. Give me a call. And again congratulations on showing a little bit of self-awareness. We'll get right to work on those pesky humility, courage, intellectual rigor, discipline, and respect issues, qualities that, as you recognize, you lost when you sold your manhood to Donald Trump.
Pete’s disrespect for female senators who oppose him was on full display yesterday.
He talked over them, interrupted them, rolled his eyes at them and smirked.
Sen. Joni Ernst was most disappointing. She helped him, signaling she will vote to confirm him.
What we the people are witnessing in these hearings is betrayal by Republican senators. They swore to protect and defend us from internal threats.
Pete’s only competence is his fealty to the president-elect. One who is determined to burn down all opposition to him.
The fact that the president-elect was not put on trial for his “unprecedented criminal effort to overturn the legitimate results of the [2020] election in order to retain power” simply means he will commit similar crimes again.
I’m frustrated with Senator Ruben Gallego‘s Washington DC and local Phoenix offices. You cannot leave a message on the Washington DC line because it is full. The local Phoenix number is not active yet so I’ve been having to use his website to email the call scripts regarding the no vote on Hegseth as Secretary of Defense. I was able to reach an aide in DC for speaker Johnson yesterday to tell him to not hold CA fire victims hostage in order to raise the debt ceiling before giving them assistance - unconscionable.
i don't care who uses it. Thie end to Putin's War is of benefit to our world.
PEACE PLAN TO END PUTIN'S WAR
1. Russian and Ukrainian attacks cease. All Russian arms and military personnel either return to Russia (borders 1991) or surrender to Ukrainian forces, including Russian forces in Crimea and Moldova. All Ukrainian arms and military personnel either return to Ukraine or surrender to Russian forces. All mines are removed and destroyed by whomever placed them. NATO and Russia will avoid weapons threats to each other.
2. Russia is guaranteed unfettered commercial access to the Black Sea.
3. There will be free flow of goods, people and money throughout Russia, Ukraine, and Moldova. The terms will be standard contract law, a willing buyer and a willing seller. The requirement for being in this free trade zone is a birth rate below 2.1/1000 and falling, which it is for all 3.
4. There will be no WOWOD (Weapons Of War Or Destruction) move between or into or out of any of the three RUM nations.
5. NATO and each of the RUM nations guarantees the borders and sovereignty of each RUM nation and the terms of this treaty.
6. Russian pays $340 billion, and US, UK, EU, Ukraine also fund a special NATO committee to rebuild infrastructure damaged in RUM since 24 Feb 2022.
7. All sanctions are ended: All people may resume commercial interactions with RUM without interference from any nation in NATO. EU, UK or RUM.
This is too good for all involved to pass up.
This plan leaves President Putin in a world minus his perceived 'threats' and territorial conquests but with a new and very beneficial trade zone which may be so attractive that former "Soviet" states and EU states may want to join. It has never been US foreign policy to invade or harm the Russian Federation, only to restrain Russian Imperialism.
We hope the Russians, Ukrainians and Moldovans thrive economically so long as thriving is not translated into military aggression.
Such a treaty tends to move Putin personally out of his Tsarist/Soviet mindset. He has lived 30 years in a "wild west" transition from Stalinist Communism where every pitchfork was owned by the State toward a democratic republic political structure and a free market economy where everything was up for grabs.
Future amalgamation with the EU becomes a more open option as EU already meets the falling birth rate provision.
President Zelensky should approve as well, seeing an end to destruction, a vast reconstruction, no loss of territory, and greatly enhanced economic opportunities. Putin will not see "conquest" in such a scheme but will see enhanced Russian "influence". Expect widow Navalny to disapprove as her agenda is to collapse Putin's power.
The United States and UK and EU should see a greatly reduced threat from Russia. The drain on resources and money drops dramatically as an opportunity of enhanced commerce grows. All results in a reduced likelihood of war over Taiwan.
Rewrite to President Biden:Dr. Dykers, former student of Dr. Hal P. Ford, former Chief of the Far Eastern Desk, State Department. Taught him to write "Position Papers" for State Department. Familiar with Hans Morgenthau, Henry Kissinger, General Milley, et al. Asks you to evaluate the Peace Plan. The key concern now is inside Xi's head as to when and IF he will invade Taiwan.
Knowing that PEACE could be a framework within which all could function would persuade many former Soviets to abandon Putin's war propaganda and support his role as peacemaker gaining a massive free trade zone. Putin has a face-saving exit to prevent more destructive aggression and any need for closer alliance with China, N. Korea, or Viet Nam.
The RUM (Russia, Ukraine, Moldova) concept is new. RUM presents a way out of territorial disputes and into functionality that does not cascade into new dysfunctions for China and Taiwan.
Honestly, I think the male Democratic committee members beat the issue of infidelity/alcoholism (which is the word they should've used instead of "drinking") into the ground. I think it's a distraction from the greater concerns of his questionable ethics and his willingness to do what Trump demands, even if it violates the Constitution. So, I'll scrap that part of the script. Let the National Enquirer focus on the tawdry stuff.
Suggestions for how to be effective when my Senators in CA (Padilla and Schiff) are currently listed “Not Voting” on the floor today. I’ll definitely call Johnson - will the fact that I’m a Los Angeles resident carry any importance to his office since I’m not actually one of his constituents? Thank you so much for this substack and to everyone calling on behalf of CA aid.
Just ventilating here. When calling today to voice my opposition to Pete Hegseth, I was told by the staffer answering calls for Senator Bernie Moreno that callers are to be told Senator Moreno plans to vote “yes” on all nominees. Governor DeWine has still to choose JD Vance’s replacement who will not speak for Ohioans. It is so discouraging to lose Senator Sherrod Brown who was such an advocate for Ohio and our country. If my family did not live in Ohio, I would move to another state, or even consider another country. I will keep putting one foot in front of the other and continue my advocacy work, yet some days are particularly challenging.
On Inauguration Day I WILL BE VOLUNTEERING AT HABITAT FOR HUMANITY TO HONOR PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER! I REFUSE TO OBEY IN ADVANCE
Great idea!
Love this!
