Everyone, please write directly to Nate Cohn and his editors at the New York Times about the latest pro-Trump distortion. See my letter below:.…..........................................

Mr Cohn Your efforts to distort the truth about Donald Trump's poor performance in South Carolina is shameful and your dismissive attitude about the failure of your polling accuracy is a disgrace. You defensively and irresponsibly describe your misleading forecasts by saying that Trump "slightly underperformed". Your polling and 538's vs actual election outcomes like South Carolina's are consistently bias in favor of Trump by a whopping 7%. Your analytical work is a sham. What should your readers believe? The Times, has lost its ability to write the truth or your election work has become a Trump campaign asset? Yours Merrill Weingrod 401-480-8003

I have a trans daughter and your mention of this brought tears to my eyes. Only one person in my life has reached out or even broached the subject to me over the past few days. I know it’s not about me, it’s about the kids, but it means a lot to know we aren’t alone. Thanks 💕

I know. I was actually a bit hurt that no one reached out to me either. I think people are scared to bring up painful stuff. Anyway, I'm sending hugs, Mary. I know exactly how you're feeling, and it sucks.

Thank you for the focus on Nex Benedict Jessica, and sending support to you as a parent (I'm a mama too) and as one of the heroes doing this really hard work. Several of my colleagues identify as trans or gender expansive and I've been struggling with whether to reach out to them about this as I was concerned sharing the story might be traumatizing. This is really helpful to hear your perspective on this and I'll be sure to reach out to them now.

I totally understand your hesitation, but at this point they almost definitely know about it. Thank you for doing that.

Sending love to your family during a difficult week. Thank you for all that you do!

I couldn’t agree more. It’s a tragedy on so many levels. And heart breaking. I’m going to check out Blue Missouri. Sounds like a great group. I feel like we are building an Underground Railroad for democracy. Never give up.

YES! I love that. And all the "Blue" chapters are amazing. I try to always go to their meetings. So inspiring. Blue Ohio is incredible, too.

Jess, I am so sorry for what you and MJ are going through. It's hard to fathom the viciousness

directed at brave and beautiful people simply living their authentic lives. We should all be so brave. Please know I have yours and MJ's backs and am following through on the actions you listed. Holding you and yours in my heart.

Thank you for that, Fran-Michelle. ❤️

I noted to my Congresswoman that I'd be OK with restrictions on aid to Israel as long as aid to Ukraine gets done on Wednesday. Netanyahu has gone way over the edge and clearly doesn't expect any pushback from us in terms of limitations on age - he needs some schooling.

I agree, Dave. I don't think giving wannabe authoritarians bent on destroying democracy is ever a good idea and that was my concern from the beginning. I hope the Israelis push him out.

I don't doubt that they will Susan but the question is how much damage he'll do to Israel, our country, the chances for peace in the area, and the general perception of our reliability as an ally and a stable force in the world before he goes.

Yeah I truly can't stand that guy. He is awful for Israel, awful for us, awful for Gazans, awful for world stability, and...just awful.

I did turn off my phone and finished reading a wonderful book over the weekend which I would like to recommend to anyone who wants an inspiring story of courage just now. It's called Unbreakable: The Woman Who Defied the Nazis in the World's Most Dangerous Horse Race, by Richard Askwith. I love horses but knew nothing about horse racing. This book tells the almost buried, almost forgotten story of the first (and perhaps still the only) woman to win this dangerous event. To tell you more, would ruin it. I also posted an article on Nex Benedict on my Facebook page. Nex was just a beautiful little kid. Unbelievably sad and savage.

Oh wow that book sounds right up my alley. Will order from the library! Thanks!

I went to check the House Bill to see if my Democratic Rep was already a co-sponsor and it says one of the 14 co-sponsors is that nut from FL, Anna Paulina Luna.

Expand full comment

Ha she co-sponsored it after the AL ruling came out. But I did change the script to reflect that. I also fixed my other typo (sigh). Find the corrected version here https://open.substack.com/pub/chopwoodcarrywaterdailyactions/p/chop-wood-carry-water-226?r=160ms&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

Not surprising about Anna Paulina Luna. She was against proxy voting, until she wasn’t. Pregnancy -related complications prevented her from voting on stopgap spending plan to avoid gov shutdown and voting to oust McCarthy. I wonder if she’s still wearing her fave fashion accessory…an AR-15/pin.

Ugh. She's really gross.

Oh really? I missed that. I'll edit the online version to state that.

Is there a way to connect with all of them? We need each other. I don't know if my comment went through yesterday about reposting an article about Dix on my Facebook page. What a beautiful child and yet another martyr to hate.

I also posted about an inspiring book I read last week to recoup from too much news and a head cold. It's titled, Unbreakable: The Woman Who Defied the Nazis in the World's Most Dangerous Horse Race, by Richard Askwith. I love horses but knew nothing about horse racing. It was a forgotten story (actually suppressed) but is now resurfacing. To say any more would spoil it for anyone who is looking for an interesting read.
