Before we see massive protest marches and other forms of resistance to Trump's delusional decent into dictatorship and monarchy, there is an immediate reason for some hope. Trump's rapidly declining approval rating.
After his victory Trump's approval rating was at 48%. Just 4 weeks into Trump 2.0 its dropped to 42-44%..And the "King" has barely started destroying himself. We the Governed are coming for King Donald.
And apparently the stock market is too. The Dow is now down almost 4% since Jan 20.
Imagine where his standing in public opinion email be after he slashes Medicare and CHIP programs for 80 million Americans. Or he refuses to release federal FEMA funds to disaster victims. Or Hegseth, at Trump's direction cuts the military budget by 8% and discharges the LGBTQ community from service. Many of the citizens negatively effected by these abominable initiatives voted for Trump. What happens to Americans cost of living when inflation rapidly ticks back up to 9% because of Trump's tariff tax and his expulsion of hard working immigrants. Or unemployment skyrockets. Or every American with parents, grandparents or great grandparents who fought in WWII watch Trump disparage NATO and hug Putin. And Trumps AG and FBI Director make a mockery of Justice in America.
How will the American investor class feel when his cumulating actions drive stock prices down by 20-30%? The risks are very high and the benefits of his agenda are very meager.
I'm hoping Trump's approval rating plummets into the mid 30s by the end of March and keeps falling.
What will the chicken s**t GOP do then? Especially in purple districts. Trump's agenda is the agenda they're supporting in silence. They own it. The public will gladly vote them out of office in 2026.
Great pieces, both. Love Robert Reich, tho I shudder to think it will be ten years. I am so willing to fight, but I will not live to see the good end. No matter. Fighting on!
Joan - I hear you, and I’m not young myself, but my vow on November 6, 2024 was to live long enough to see this fascist, criminal dictator/king wannabe ousted from our country. And dang it, I’m just stubborn enough to do it. Us ornery folks are so needed in this fight. As Jess said: “hang in there.”
Hi Jessica—thank you for another great post to help guide my activism!
Here’s something I posted on Simon Rosenberg’s Hopium Chronicles today. It might be useful for some readers:
Good news—Vote Forward is back, and their first campaign is writing letters for Susan Crawford’s Supreme Court race.
Vote Forward is an organization that launches letter-writing campaigns to increase voter turnout. According to rigorous analyses done by Vote Forward, these letters to voters can increase turnout by several percentage points—enough to make a difference in a close election.
More information about this first campaign of 2025, along with more info about Vote Forward, can be found at this link:
I can only imagine your email inbox, Jessica (shudder)!
The Vote Forward campaign for Susan Crawford actually kicks off Tuesday, February 25 and goes up through the final mail deadline of March 25, 2025. 👍🏻🇺🇸
Thank you, Jessica! I appreciate your newsletter as it keeps me on track and gives me daily action items.
Although I generally avoid all things Meta, I wanted to share this video of my congressman from the 3rd district in CA being booed. I'm glad to see people showing up and taking action. I wish I had been there booing with them! https://www.instagram.com/reel/DGTtfgrxzJo/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ%3D%3D
I hope that other countries start boycotting the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Why would they want to travel and compete here? Trump likely envisions himself overseeing the Games, as H….r did in The 30’s. That would hit a lot of corporate pocket books!
In Robert Reich's "10 Reasons.." column today, scroll down and you'll see a link to Rachael Maddow describing (on You Tube) the results of new polls that show DJT losing at every turn! It is SO comforting to know that MOST AMERICANS DO NOT APPROVE of what DJT is doing by slashing and cutting important government programs. I don't get expanded cable, but I just learned I can listen to Ms. Maddow on You Tube! Maybe Amy Goodman, too. I'll have to check it out. Thank you Jessica for telling us to read RR's column today (I'm a "free subscriber"to his blog--he's been a very vocal critic of the current coup under Muskrat's leadership.) Maybe I can insert it here? YES!
We are fortunate enough to live in a blue state with pretty active Democratic Senators and a sympathetic (if useless) Representative. I have sent them lots of messages but so far, I have not tried to contact out of state Republican Senators. I figure they dont much care what I think.
I mean, the rule of thumb is that they are uninterested in hearing from anyone who can't vote for them. So you can call, but whether or not they record what you say is another question.
It is past time to impeach Donald Trump and his band of miscreants. I am buoyed by the signs that people are finally rising up. I just learned a new phrase this morning from the folks at Network NOVA Friday Power Lunch: "When they go low, we go low so they can hear us." No more nicey nicey. Check out Waging Peace. They have some great ideas and protest clips as well.
On Feb. 14, U.S. colleges and universities were sent a "Dear Colleague" letter (https://www.ed.gov/media/document/dear-colleague-letter-sffa-v-harvard-109506.pdf) saying that they need to remove any form of racial discrimination or risk losing funding. It's written very broadly and seems to actually be an attack on DEI. If you have any connection to a college or university, please write the leaders an email and let them know that you don't want to see them roll over to appease the Trump administration on this.
Jess, I ordered postcards for the WI Supreme Court race. I’m curious though. Is there a law that states you can’t mention the candidate specifically? The messages are generic about voting, but am curious if a law prohibits us from actually mentioning Crawford by name.
No, there’s no law about that. It’s just this particular campaign takes a different approach. If you want postcards that mention her name, I have listed various other campaigns, including activate America’s that are doing that.

Me too!
I beginning to think they might well be run out of office sooner than the next election. We'll see.
We can hope people wake up sooner than too late!
Thank you, Jessica! Your posts are always encouraging. I hope you and your family enjoy your weekend 💙
Thanks, Brittany! You, too!
Great pieces, both. Love Robert Reich, tho I shudder to think it will be ten years. I am so willing to fight, but I will not live to see the good end. No matter. Fighting on!
I'd like to think it won't take nearly that long to staunch the bleeding and at least make some progress. Hang in there, Joan!

Ah! I didn't know that! I'm so behind on my emails I missed it! Thanks for flagging!

OMG it's so good isn't it?
That is awesome! Thank you.

Love that.

Great point! I hope they do, too.
Thank you, Jess for the call to members of Congress today on HR 32. Made it a RESISTBOT Action (PUAAHP).
Thanks!

He's terrific, isn't he?
I watched that Maddow segment live, but just watched it again because it boosts my serotonin levels. I just want to inject it into my veins.

Hi Jessica-
We are fortunate enough to live in a blue state with pretty active Democratic Senators and a sympathetic (if useless) Representative. I have sent them lots of messages but so far, I have not tried to contact out of state Republican Senators. I figure they dont much care what I think.
Any advice on this?
Thanks

I call out of state legislators after hours so a staffer can’t ask my zip/where I live.
Similar situation for me, live in deep blue New England with strong reps and senators putting themselves out there for us.
You in Illinois perchance?

Just purchased Blue Wave postcards for the first time. Can’t wait to get started!
Excellent!

Thank you Jessica I love your positive outlook. I wish someone would post the companies we should be supporting.
I have a list somewhere I will find it
